Thrall and Pets following to close

Game mode: Online official
Type of issue: Bug | Misc
Server type: PvE
Region: Americas

The thralls and pet followers stand right on top of my character all the time. when I’m out harvesting they are right on top of me causing most of my hits on the resources to hit them as well. I have also been noticing with larger pets when they stand on top of you it causes my character to get stuck in them forcing me to have to re log the game to try to get away from them (doesn’t always work). and when they stand over me my character will change her body angle and strike higher up missing the resource all together. Also when riding around on my horse with a follower in tow when i dismount my horse the follower will be so close that i cant get back on my horse again ill get the message “unable to mount here” so i have to tell my follower to go someplace else just so i can get back on my horse.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. get you a large pet (rhino, camel, greater rhino, greater boar) and you’ll have everything that happens to me happen to you.

This has been an ongoing issue since the thrall update earlier in the year. even after the patch to address pets following to close, thralls and pets still try to become one with the player’s avatar. they remain utterly immovable objects unless interacted with, and set to guard ‘over there’ (unless too close to something else for some reason).

A method of setting follow distance is needed.
A method of physically moving the thralls and pets by having them back off when the player attempts to move into or through them is needed.

The thralls and pets are moving so close to the player that any attempts to use the universal control to access the (container inventory, inventory inventory, pickup item, switch control, item interact, thrall commands, etc) button invariably opens the inventory instead if allowing the player to command the thrall to move/back off.

Of course, if the player does manage to get the thrall to move away, it instantly decides that, no, it really, really MUST stand less than a half meter from the player and so quickly moves back to hugging range of the player avatar.

Frustrating.

workaround suggestions that seems to work for me are:

  1. crouch and tumble may get you away
  2. equip a katana and perform the heavy attack to dash/slash away

Amen, guys. Very little frustrates me, especially about this fine game, but this one is driving me bonkers.

The proximity problem also affects your horse and follower. The follower will get stuck inside the horse and you can’t mount. The only solution is to tell one or the other to stop following then move away, then reinstate following, then climb back on your horse.

As far as horses go, when farming iron, the horse gets so close that my character actually looks up at him and the angle prevents me from hitting the node.

Don’t even think about following horses and farming on a slope. You’re guaranteed to get stuck and sometimes can’t get out at all.

This is what happened to me:

I relogged, restarted, tried everything. Finally, I was able to mount the horse while still stuck, somehow. The ride across the UC was funny; since the horse and I were out of sync, the horse bucked the entire way.

Getting to safety, I had to log out for 20 minutes so the horse and thrall returned to base (last guard position) which freed me to run back.

I’m not a fan of another variable, just a bit more personal space.

It is especially fun when your farming star metal on usually a tall mountain. This is usually the most consistent time Ill bring a gazelle or camel for these runs. But I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been headbutted off the mountain looking off the side for the metal. I try to keep in mind their point of reference when you run head is exactly the same spot your standing in.

This issue is especially prevalent when standing on stairs and is most painful with a horse following you. It is, by far, the most profoundly irritating bug in the entire game. I do not have this problem with the new rhino mounts (which appear to actually follow at a reasonable distance, praise Crom) so this is clearly something that can be resolved.

Yep, nothing like your pet lynx/sabretooth running right up close behind you when you’re running about at night. A joy for the nerves (‘Reaction time is a factor in this, so please pay attention’)

I am SO tired of my pet blocking entry ways or some how corners me up against a wall and I have to remove bracelet and lose my damnd sigils on purpose just to fix is ridiculous.

I realize you guys are busy with issues that prevent people from playing, but this is also detrimental to the player’s enjoyment and a source of aggravation.

Please consider keeping this on your list

this has been so anoying, i was hoping for a 3rd distance setting on the wheel for a long time.
use the cordinates from thrall to your cordinates to set the angle then sett 5default distances, or just have a circle distance around the character to push thrall out of.

Hey there,

We’re aware of this issue and our team is looking at ways to teach followers the concept of personal space.
Apologies for the frustration and thanks for the feedback.

But I always expect instant fixing and implementing everything? I don’t want any testing, integration to existing deep-level stuff, performance testing if that will slow the delivery - surely the hundreds of staff dedicated to resolving bugs have this one at the top of their list?! Oh, and I don’t want to hear that FC staff have been allowed to sleep. Sleep, free-time and eating is all overrated and should be discouraged. Most importantly, make sure that this is fixed whilst I am awake or have free time (I shall hold my breath until it is done).
