Thrall limits explained (poorly)

Besides them talking about it several times through various channels? I’m sure you recall the various discussions on how buildings are set up to use instance tech and don’t pull anywhere near the same resources as a crafting station does or something with an inventory, let alone a Thrall with AI logic running through it. Or you could head on over to Admins United and ask all the sever tech people over there what their opinion is.

And also, I think I’ve more then earned my keep. I could spend the next several hours finding you a link where it was discussed, maybe send you several development articles on the subject. But I’m just going to go with “I have no reason to lie to you.”

That’s what the dedicated server app is for. It’s fine though, I get you are absolutely adamant you don’t want to create or join a free private server with the settings that you want. I’ll never understand it, but I otherwise tip my hat as it’s obviously your decision and not mine.

Pippi Thespians are basically like that, but they still require resources. It’s not like making them nothing but decoration means zero cost in performance. I’m VERY skeptical that such a feature officially implemented would go over well. More likely there would be wall-to-wall “Funcom sucks” posts because they are “only” decorative and non-combatant.

No, this happens on the good servers too. This is a fact private servers deal with too. We’ve just long ago implemented these changes.

And we’re not talking about visual lag. We’re talking about database degradation. The status that causes a server to need to be rebooted more often and take longer to reboot.

Thrall limit to be implemented soon is great news. Building limit when?

:joy:

Well, there will always be “Funcom sucks” posts because:

  1. They have to work within the constraints of reality and can’t deliver everything everyone wants
  2. They live in some alternate reality and release patches that make the game worse

However, I don’t see why having the option for inactive thralls wouldn’t go over well. If you set a follower to “Attack nothing” you’ve basically declared by yourself “this is only decorative”. So I’m just wondering if the game already takes advantage of that fact and saves on AI resources. If not, they should! It would be much more welcome to be able to have 50 active followers and 150 inactive followers than it would to only have 50-100 (I don’t know what value they are going to set) followers total.

Activating the follower limit on PvE servers is already not going to go over well with some people. If there are options to mitigate the pain then they should be taken.

I love your optimism

On the other hand, I can’t think of many things I would hate more than a hard cap on the number of building pieces, which is what most people are asking for.

Its not so bad. But then again I’ve been playing on servers with building hard caps for over 2 years now. Mods give us a bit more options in server settings than non-modded.

But judging from your opinion on how large individual buildings should be, I don’t think you would be personally affected by most caps. For example, the most strictest building limit I’ve seen is 250 building pieces per person in a clan. Even for a solo player that is more than enough for all the crafting stations.

You might not be able to recreate Cinderella’s castle with that limit, but a single player on a multiplayer server doesn’t need a build that large. And I believe in your words, they do need to share the space with other players.

Admittedly though, I only support limits for server database reasons. But that opinion isn’t really relevant here.

Newsflash on that. They havent been seen for weeks, but somehow they managed to refresh most of their bases. Too late for half of the Pyramid base, a lot of it went away.
I put in a ticket about them blocking the volcano obelisk a month ago, so they might have gotten a temp ban. All of their current builds are down to 70 hours, and i spend a few hours a day pulling the red Dragon into what’s left of the Pyramid base to “help” the animal spawn. LOL

honestly if they ever implement a building cap after saying : https://youtu.be/Hj4SPe_7-Z4?t=1283 I don’t know what to say :speak_no_evil: :hear_no_evil: :see_no_evil:

Yes you have earned your keep. And I do not believe you are trying to “lie”, sir. We can just agree to disagree.

Believe me, a hard cap on building pieces was one of the things people “loved” about Fallout 76.

I know but I still wanted to answer those because they were answered wrong imo

I know you probably looked at some data or whatever and are probably right but in my personal experience it is not the thralls who cause the lag. I’ve seen bases of reasonable size with around 1500(!) followers which my ps4 slim could handle without problems and I have encountered bases with 130 thralls that nearly made me bluescreen on my ps5. I cleared that second base of all their thralls but that did not improve the lag at all.

I agree that you probably only need a few thralls for pve if you know how to keep them alive but pvp is a different kind of thing. If you are on a populated server you will need to level tons of thralls because you’re gonna lose them in pvp. In a 10v10 group fight for example is gonna lose 10 thralls (unless they come back with more) and the winning side will also lose 3-5 thralls. Plus all the horses. So it’s 20 followers for the losing side and most likely 10 or more for the winning side (assuming an equal skill level). And if the server is really populated and clans actually come to fight you can have a few of those fights a day. People don’t have time to level a lot every day so they have to do it when they actually have the time for it. Our team for example levels like 50 followers on a good day. We do that twice and reached the cap so we can’t prepare for the next pvp fights anymore.
I’ve seen other clans with over 300 lv20 thralls. I would never have the patience for that but they spent all the time leveling them. It just wouldn’t be fair if they lost those hundreds of hours for no reason

I play on a PVE Server too. Not sure how many pets and thralls I won but looking yesterday is FAR more then 50 tho.

But here is the thing, I don’t NEED them all, but I for one make a small “city” down at the river on the Island in I4. with bridges and other things around it, they have guards on them, some of the house have them too, then you have a pleasure house, that have “active” thralls in it, 4 outposts with public maps, have a few thralls.

Most my Pets are Greater ones, and mostly 2 of each, but as I said, they are 90% Greater ones.

As I said too a friend in game yesterday, I woulden’t mind removing a bunch of them really, as long as it don’t ruin the over all look I was aiming for.

Issue will be, I would have too “Break Bond” with ALL my outpost thralls and pets for starters.
Then I would need to go count the ones in the main base.

That will do 2 things.

  1. I will simply remove all outposts and public maps I maintain peroid.
  2. should I be forced too remove more then I’d like too in my main base, well, that settles that then.
I would simply “pack” up and use the key stone in the vault.

I’ve been around since 2017/2018 and I have too agree with JJ on this one.
Force us too remove thralls and I will be done with this game for the very last time ever.

I’ve bought every single DLC there is for this game. So I’ve paid my share I hope.

Add a cap fine, but do NOT force delete those that in the world, sooner or later we all will leave.
With that all out excess thralls and pets will die of and the problem is solved.

As for me I got 900+ played hours on this server I play on alone this time around, if FC decide I need too Rek some of what I’ve done, then I will Rek it all, pack up, leave and never look back.

Even considered looking into how too have Steam remove the game from my account so I make sure I NEVER see it again.

Sweden

You mean how LESS will have fun. Every time FC nerfs, breaks, or downsizes, people leave the game. So eventually it will get down to the pocket group that still thinks it is perfect, and the hackers and cheaters.
And don’t get me wrong, I have loved this game from day one and still do. Like @Cardinal, I have also bought every single DLC so I think we have a right to be heard.

To make it short.

All my buildings are on the Island or just a little out in the river, then I have bridges connecting the land mass that ppl use to get around.

In all my time playing there it’s a new player that as a joke told me he hates my main base due too it lags when he get there, then again he use a laptop and likely now a very new one.

But PVE 1025 aren’t that over build and we have a nice little group of players that try to help the new ones the bast we can.

Still, Mess up my game play and I’ll simply leave.

Gone back to playing SWG Legends now, do miss that ol game.

So I shall wait and see if that Key Stone will be needed or not.

Its allready there…

You’d defo would be scared if they did this but yours don’t block anything or cause any sort of lag

Something I just remembered… there are people who still think a foundation does more server harm than a pillar with a ceiling tile and four walls hanging from the ceiling tile to ‘function’ as a foundation.

So I don’t doubt what Mutligun said will fall on deaf ears.
