Thrall Pot and Feeding box not working correctly

I would expect the feeding box and thrall pot to give the NPC’s food and the NPC should get the regen effect for that food. It doesn’t work like this.
I have a Thrall at half HP put gruel in Thrall pot, Thrall will take gruel and eat it. Get no effect. no stat boost or regen.
If I manually place gruel on Thrall 6 HP regen starts.

It’s the same for the feeder and pets.

If this is how it’s supposed to work what is the point of having the feeder and thrall pot?

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:
1.Thrall with low HP
2.Put gruel in thrall pot.
3.Wait for thrall to take gruel.
4.See that nothing happens.
5. Manually give thrall gruel watch the regen begin.

They removed the feeding system ages ago. Now they merely tell you how many you have placed out in the world, also its an emergency fridge since its 100x the timers on most things.

For thralls u give them a stack to inventory, then right away remove the stack. Depending on what u give it will +% the chance of growth.
