Tipps to play more smoothly on a PS4 (Pro)?

After a long break i decided to boot up CE again, only to be met by lag and choppiness even in the beginning areas of the game (playing Singleplayer). I searched around a bit for ways to work around it, but mostly only find older posts or contradicting statements. Some say Performance mode helps (as the name suggests), some say it actually makes things more laggy. I also turned off the milestone tracker and weapon trials, but its still uncomfortable to play.

I also tried if a PvE Server would be better (with the hope that the server relives some of the processing power needed and therefore might run smoother), but doesnt seem to help either.

Anyone having suggestions what else i could try? (Besides getting a PS5/High Performance PC)

Game is running worse on PlayStation every update since age of war. Ps5 doesnt help:( i loved this game but cant play play it any longer. Too many frustrating bugs and game lags too much when playing online. Funcom does bug fixes but the ones that are easy to see at the start are not fixed. Lets just wait for a new Conan game. Funcom kills their good games every time for some reason.

What issues are you having on PS5? I have 7000+ hours in the game playing via PS5 and I started playing on the PS4. This game is why I bought a PS5. On PS4, there were several issues due to hardware performance limitations. So, I got a PS5, loaded the game and boom… it was like a night and day. It’s been fine for me ever since, but I only play on my private servers and only with people that I know in real life. We could compare our PS5 and internet settings to see if there is difference that could be impacting your gameplay. All PS5 consoles have the same base hardware. So, optimizing your settings or internet connection may help.

Keep your build small and simple. Don’t use purely decorative placeables. Keep the thrall count to the absolute bare minimum. Same goes for lighting. Work stations give off enough light that you shouldn’t need a torch in a work area. Don’t have a bazillion chests. Upgrading to the PS5 version does nothing - sadly the PS5 never received the upgrade that the Series X/S got a few years back.

Day one player killed a ps4 wife insisted I get a PS5 3 years later I’m still going. Have not touched settings whatever default went to. I remember people saying they had problems with the game on Playstation pro .past couple years only playing on my servers it does get a little goofy at my base when loading but I everything others would recommend not to my fault on that plus letting living settlements run. Good luck to all you Exiles

thx for the suggestion ^^ unfortunately, i have the problems even in the starting area in Singleplayer with hardly anything build (a very basic 3x3 room with one torch, a few crafting stations, 2 chests and a Animal Pen) so i don’t think its due to over-building in this case

The PS4 can no longer handle this game.

That said, there are a few things to control how it sucks.

Play online when possible. Let a server handle the load, not just your console. In Single Player, your console is having to handle all the work that a server usually would.

Keep builds small. Performance mode on. Weapon trails off. Journey steps off. Living Settlements off. Emotes off. Use as few animated or illuminated items as possible. Items with fancy textures and big animations are out. No explosions. Do not use Sorcery. Never, ever, under any circumstances cast Gather Resources. Do not trigger a purge. Walk, rather than run, everywhere. If you must approach Sepermeru, do so slowly, let everything render in before going further in.

Also, leave the admin panel closed as much as possible.

@LostBrythunian @Voidmaster Dova and our Australian friend was on this weekend not having a problem even at my base they are using PS4. Peoples bodies don’t stay online perhaps that lightens server load.

@Voidmaster you are welcome to join my server. sestus2009 is my psn name contact me
