Transferring game to new computer & need help

My old PC needs a new graphics card to run CEE so I’m trying to transfer the game with 5 years of play to a newer one. Steam managed the file transfer but none of my 10k hours of play time showed up with the rest of the game. They said to talk to the publisher to find the saved game files and transfer them manually. Does anyone know what folders or files need to be transferred and where I would find them? I can’t find them in the places I would expect to.

I’ll try:

Assuming that you’re talking about a single player game and picked the default install options, you’re looking for this folder

C:[…]\Steam\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Saved

Copy the complete folder to your new PC, and your savegame should show in the game.

Just for information:
The actual save file is this:

game_0.db ← first character/game
game_1.db ← second character/game
game_2.db ← third character/game

Your game is most likely game_0.db.

Thank you for the information. I’ll check again and see if I can find the folder and files.

Adding to what Khaletohep said - in this instance I’d suggest either copying the whole Save folder, or starting a new game briefly (just as far as appearing in the game), then replacing that with the game_0.db file. (There seem to be some other secondary files that are created when you first start a game in UE5, and they are needed now as well as the save itself (but can be created by any fresh save).)

I found the _0.db file in the Save folder on my old computer then checked and the entire Save folder had been copied to the new computer as well during the Steam transfer. When CEE went live my character from UE4 was intact and complete. I started a second one to replace the one I had on Siptah on public beta and was playing it the most but the computer was dealing with the game worse every day.

When I started the game on the newer computer the first time the name of the main character was still in the first slot but showed 0 play time. The second slot was empty. Steam still shows 10k hrs of play time on the account but the game showed 0 play time. I started a new game in the 3rd slot with a new character and played it for 24 hrs straight and the game ran perfectly on the newer computer. The next time I started the game it showed the old character in the 1st slot with 0 play time, the 2nd slot was still empty and my new character was in the 3rd with 24 hrs of play time.

I just logged onto the game on the old computer and both of my saves are there with the correct play time on each. The 3rd slot is empty. So everything is being saved to the computer it’s played on but not transferring even when the folder contents look identical. I guess it’s time to follow your advice and manually save the entire folder onto the new computer. Any suggestions on the proper way to make the transfer? Steam used a LAN since both PCs use the same router but we know that doesn’t work. It seems to me that all I’m going to get for results is the loss of my latest character since the Save folder was already copied once.

Suggestions?

Right. Based on what you are saying, I’d suggest not copying the whole save folder - because that will overwrite the new character (which based on being the third slot, is using game_2.db).

Instead - try this -
first (just to check that it’s not a glitch showing the wrong play-time on the first save) - try logging in to the first save - see what if anything is there (even though it is showing 0 hours - maybe the hours is all that is actually wrong.)

Assuming that doesn’t work out, continue on -
Second - on the new computer create a new character in save 1 - you don’t need to actually play it - just quickly go through the creation process and get into the exiled lands. Then log out. (That should create whatever secondary files are needed.)
Then manually transfer game_0.db from the old computer to the new computer (could try memeory stick if need be, but just copying it to the desktop of the new machine via LAN should be fine)
Then take that file and use it to replace the game_0.db file that is in your save folder on the new computer. That should put all the data from that save on the old computer onto the new computer.

After further reading -
Stick with everything I said above to try to get character 1 across to save 1.

Repeat the same procedure for save slot 2 (create new character briefly etc)
Then take your Siptah save - which should be game_1.db and copy that across in the same way - use it to replace the game_1.db in the save folder on the new computer.

Hopefully that should give you all three characters -
game_0.db/save slot 1 should be your original character
game_1.db/save slot 2 should be your Siptah character
game_2.db/save slot 3 should be your newest character that you have played for 24 hours.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out with this! That said, after my last post I looked at the log file for today in the Saved folder on the old computer. It was SCARY!!!

I’m not sure I want to bring any more garbage from the old one to the new one. It’s a lot of building and play time lost but what else do I have to do these days but start all over with a clean game on a computer that can handle it. Of course the newer one runs on Intel’s gen 13 processor that is said to have big problems with UE5 and many other apps and likes to overheat. What’s the worst that can happen? “Ugh, it catches on fire and burns the newly painted house to the ground.” Lol.

Maybe I’ll sleep on it for another night and see if I wake up in the morning or not. Just another day in the life of a cancer patient currently in remission after being at stage 4. If I ever have a day without a major disaster it will probably mean I’m dead already.

Thanks again for the info. Take care.

Make a copy of the save folders and store them somewhere else just in case.

But: Try it out, it’ll work fine! My savegames have all transferred very nicely and run very, very good in UE5, better than in UE4. No burning PCs, no lost buildings, no complaints - and that’s from a guy who yells at the sun for being too bright irl.

Like Khaletophep says - I’d recommend giving it a try. All you would be bringing across from the old machine would be the individual save files themselves. The logfile shouldn’t matter. (Also, from what I’ve seen, there’ve been reports that logfiles are currently generating a lot more data than they need to - this doesn’t seem to be a huge problem.) (Plus it’s singleplayer anyway, so no need to leave it running while you’re not there - if it overheats at least you’ll be close by, so should be able to stop it spreading.)
