I’m having this same problem. I have a large open spot and can’t place anything in it. If I take the ceiling off to the open sky, I can put items down but then I can’t put the ceiling tiles back on, it won’t let me place them over items I have placed there.
Unfortunately, that is already a big ole mess.
Especially with the ludicrous size of some crafting benches.
Many placeables require a dead zone around them to be placed which leaves pantries and certainly containers and chairs sitting in the middle of the room rather than able to be flush against a wall.
There aren’t many good answers that this one can immediately imagine.
They want people to be able to place ieds telekinetically and steal from containers.
They don’t want that to be done thru walls and windows.
But you cannot have both of those things at once and heavens forbid there ever be any other than ieds as the PvP raid mechanic. They have made significant pushes into explicitly shutting down every other option.
Remember when Avatars and Trebuchets were relevant?
But no, the raid game must be about telekinetically placing explosive jars. So everything else will be modified around that.

Oh come come now.
Those are competent players.
They play the game using the system the devs give them. Exploiting jank always has and always will be the way this game goes.
Bugs are left to run rampant so long that they might as well be features.
Normal usage of systems gets called bug exploitation when they decide to rebalance but don’t want to call it rebalancing (RIP fence foundations honey combing, we knew you for so many years)
Flying castles and undermesh bases have been here for years, get reported, and not a bleeding thing happens.
So no, the people gaming the janky system are not incompetent. They know the system they are operating in and navigate it with a greater competence than it was designed and implemented with.

Who the cluck can tell what is a feature or a bug. We slip the bracelet as fast travel. Is that using that feature as intented?
