I used to be able to just take my Mitraen Ankh and smack the holy spirit out of dead bodies, but now nothing happens when I try to, my friend who’s trying the new religion is also having the same problem.
This is a known bug that was originally reported on Testlive. No ETA on a fix yet. You’ll just have to use Aloe Potions instead of Ambrosia in the meantime.

Ah, alright. We had figured maybe there was a new system in place since the update.
We tried killing them with the ankh, knocking them out and then using the ankh, dragging one to the alter and trying to put them on it kinda like the wheel of pain, and finally we had tried smacking them with the ankh while they were rested on the alter.
