With the upcoming merges, there is a one time transfer with no weight limits. Does that only apply to the specific destination server or can it be to any other active server, like from a pvp server to a PvE server instead? Has this been stated anywhere?
I was wondering the same thing and was going to try to sneak an over-encumbered transfer in the heat of the trimming transfers but I believe FC is actually going behind the scenes and moving the character and inventory files to the other server and not anything that is more in game mechanics.
I was wondering what the criteria for the merges was. Having communicated with people on both servers the server being deleted has much more activity than the one it is being merged with so I’m curious as to what the criteria was for determine which servers were deleted and which were not.
For mine I knew we didn’t have the numbers so I expected to move. My scouting however showed they have one large clan that is daily active and a small guy that lives in the woods. So player numbers showed their activity more but clanwise, it was the same number. I would think that building amount should be the opposite where less is more valued than more since less means more spaces available for the transplants…but my target server is full of land claim crap so that wasn’t taken into consideration.
We have pretty good activity and the unfortunate side effect it people who have been here since early access are leaving the Conan community entirely. One way to lose customers I suppose. Still wondering exactly what the algorithm was looking for when it made the live or die decision.
Still looking for more info before this happens. We are losing years of stuff, would atleast be nice if we get the option to decide where we go
How come I know all the answers? Oh, I guess I read them.
- The max encumbered move is only to and from the listed servers - as listed - and will occur only when scheduled.
- The listed servers are of the same type PVP → PVP, PVE → PVE, etc.
- The “Algorithm” examined the month of January and evaluated number of unique players and the total number of hours played.
- If you think the source server was “busier” than the target server the chances of you being wrong are extremely close to 100%.
Anything else I can help you gentlemen out with?
THIS.
Our server had constant steady pop. (10+ people on steady, upwards of 20 regularly)
The server we are being merged with has 3 active people and a crap load of mega clan builds that are just refreshed, no one actual truly active.
Where is the logic here?
@TeleTesselator interesting how this differs from information directly from the occupants of the servers in question. But then algorithms have to be flawless as demonstrated on numerous other platforms like YouTube, Facebook, etc. What would have been more logical would have been to combine the servers they wanted to eliminate into a single new server based on the occupancy levels Funcom wanted to achieve. This would have given each player a equal chance to settle the server and not eliminated access to all the more popular building spots for these players.
If I may add something to help you sort this out, as we are apparently guerrillas these days in the obtaining of data. In the old days, pre-TenCent Funcom would have explained the rationale. Ah what a big giant pile of cash does to your tongue.
- Look at your server in BattleMetrics
- Find its IP
- Search on the IP
- Do the same for incoming or injecting servers
In my case, our cluster is three servers per IP. We are losing a server to their cluster, and they lose one to ours. So instead of three servers per IP address, it’ll be two. My server gets an injection, a sister server gets sent to their “host.”
Yeah, but several people have called that an “exploit” and we’re not allowed to explain about those. So if that works for you awesome, if not - or if later they ban you for it, don’t blame me.
There are a million reasons why someone might mistakenly think their server is busier than some other server. Time Of Day they play, Chat traffic, False Consensus, Using the very broken Battlemetrix app, Wanton Desperation, etc. etc.
Server statistics are nearly impossible to get wrong directly from the host. So if FC/GPortal says “X”, then it’s 99.999% sure to be “X”.
Except when it comes from someone who is on both servers and has direct observation capability.
Well if you wanna go there then they would need to be on-line in both servers 24/7 and do absolutely noting but monitor the Players List. So they would need 2 copies of the game and then not even play it at all (just watch a fairly static page) 24 hours a day for the ENTIRE month of Jan. No sleeping either!!!
Sorry, what you’re getting, if someone is feeding you that line of BS, is someone’s opinion - It can mathematically have an accuracy of about 25% given the most diligence humanly possible.
This is a great write up of the outline of merger execution. Prooblem is some of those answers are/were nested 200 posts in. You literally did what a moderator should have done and then ADDED TO THE TOP POST once answers to some questions were attained.
Yeah, that’s true. Not everyone can read everything. If folks don’t use the search it’s hard to know what was said or done. Oh and thank you for the compliment - it didn’t go unnoticed!
@Barnes Thank you that answered my question.
Not to mention everything that has been collected over the last 4 years.
We still have stuff from the Halloween showers.
All our collector thralls will be gone.
This is called ruining our game play.
Hold on here because there is some personal responsibility as well. I totally agree the top thread should have been updated when a juicy bit of detail (like you shall not pass) was revealed but we are talking almost 1k of posts on that thread…many are us bantering back and forth (I am completely guilty of squirreling that thread). I take some level of responsibility for these folks not seeing the juicy bits but totally agree that herding us cats isn’t feasible either so we gotta come up with something better. How about pinned announcements that cannot be added on and q&a threads from the pinned announcements so we can go and discuss. Our responsibility is to try to keep it on point and FC will update the pinned announcement when something comes up that is important?
In my case I like and appreciate what they’re doing.
I’m actually hoping they do a second pass in a couple of months after things settle. And then a couple of months after that I’m hoping they will increase the server specs and increase the player cap to 60 or 80. Yeah 80 would be nice!
I’m not the type who plays the game like a virtual dollhouse with emotional investment in virtual content (Barbie & Friends), so maybe it’s easier for me - I dunno. I had stuffed animals as a child but that phase of my life has been over with for so long - and even if otherwise digital is no replacement… can’t cuddle or use them them for a pillow so…
They’ve shut off the ability to do normal character transfers from the servers being eliminated. Having this capability would have allowed players to move things to a server of their choice and save more of their stuff. Anyone know why this has been implemented?
The other thing that seems odd is why Funcom chose to merge players on to an existing server, why not merge the servers that need to be eliminated onto a new server so everyone has a fair shot at some of the more popular building sites?
