Update 41 - Server browser not populating and "character lost" issues - Feedback thread

When I click the “Direct Connection” button the list populates, could there be a relationship to the button here or what?

Where did you see how to do that? I may need to work on mine since FC is terrible.

NO, Do not make a new character. You will lose everything. You have to wait for them to fix it.

If by “they” you’re referring to other posters who have the option to flag you for rudeness, then yeah, they do. I’m pissed off about the update and how it broke the game to the point where I literally can’t run it because it crashes, and I have strong words for the quality of the product, but you crossed the line into personal attacks on people.

Just to put things into perspective, it’s a game. If I lose everything I built in it over 3000+ hours, I’ll be pissed off, but we’re talking about insulting people who are staying up late to work on it. Yes, it’s their fault that the update sucks diseased moose wаng, but they’re spending time working on it instead of being with their kids, whereas the most we might lose are pixels and bits that represent our fictional castles and weapons.

So chill the funk out with the personal insults.

Well, Funcom managed to create the mythical Age of Conan, the MMORPG with the most bugs that we ever had the pleasure to play, and the responses at that time was to delete messages, and say that we had to have more patience.

A friend recommended this game, I like to give 2nd changes, but here we are … another time …

I think Age of Conan and Conan Exiles are games with good bases, and fun! but we always end up the same.
2 days ago I was fighting with a thrall to try to move it out of the lava, until he died, and then trying to get the horse to stop getting into the ground, yesterday I lost my character, today? nothing.

My post wasn’t a personal insult and it was the truth about what was wrong with the API / Battle Metrics and how we as server owners need this information. My thread was closed by an Iggy and was told “this is getting hostile” when it wasn’t.

The point of those comments is this … Funcom censors all of their forums, they have for years, and they don’t listen to us or give us feedback on our complaints. Even in the live streams, if you bring up an issue you get kicked out of the Twitch chat. That is not how you run a company… Now watch how this post gets flagged and removed yet it contains ZERO personal attacks and ZERO bad language.

I will get some excuse how its off topic while yours stays cause you are praising them.

Both are off topic. People will probably abuse their flagging power to flag yours and not mine, but I’m not praising them. I’ve stated plenty of times that I think their QA procedures are shameful, even in the context of game dev industry, where substandard QA is already par for the course. And the same people who keep defending them by saying Funcom is a small studio and pointing to the Fallout 76 fiasco – as if that is an excuse for other people to keep pooping their bed – those same people will come out and defend them in this case, too.

My point wasn’t that they deserve praise, but that they’re human beings, like you and me, and deserve basic decency. There’s a difference between that and praise.

Hey all, we are in the process of creating a build that will address several issues for PC including lost characters, duplicate servers in the server list, and crashing for Windows 7. We currently plan on releasing this tomorrow, the 18th.

I’m having the same issue as Krysez. I’m using the Steam app (443030) to run a dedicated/private server on my local network. I see the same errors (KDS passphrase failures and such) shown in Krysez’s post. Aside from those errors, the server looks to start up as it usually does, but you can’t connect to it (either through Steam: View -> Servers or from the game server browser using direct connect). It shows the server is not responding, and looking at “netstat” on the server I don’t see any process using ports 27015/27016. Do we need to start a new thread on this because it seems to be different from the other problems mentioned in this thread.

If you are using the default ports on your dedicated server, try direct connect but use the game port 7777, this worked for me, your mileage may vary.

thank you for the update. I appreciate the results of the ‘patch’ are unexpected but at this point I have to wonder why after 2 days of being unable to log into official servers, the patch has not been rolled back out? In IT, we always have rollback procedures for catastrophic failures. Surely releasing a version that causes all official server to not allow users to log in would qualify. No? Then there should be a root cause analysis (rca) happening to figure out how a release made it to the public that crashed every server. And Code control which is the only excuse I can figure out for how you fix a bug in one patch and break if the very next patch for over 2 yrs is happening. Does Funcom use standard coding procedures? I guess when you have your money from the people b&*tching and there is nothing more they can do - you call them on the threats and hope most of the whiners leave? Is this what the current gaming market allows? It is such a serious dichotomy from the business side where none of this would be tolerated on an on-going basis. We all make mistakes. Let’s not blame the current staff busting their butts to right wrongs, but can we at least start looking at the environment that perpetuates this behavior?

I’ve been eating popcorn and reading this whole thread, except for the posts that get flagged naturally. What I am confused about is that all of this is happening here in the “Live” section, rather than testlive.

Could there be some clear definition as to what the purpose of testlive vs live is supposed to be? I think I’ve spoken out about this before, but wouldn’t it be great if all changes were run through testlive successfully, before implimentation on the live servers?

There are a bunch of friendly, willing test subjects, ready and waiting for beta abuse - they (we) really dig rolling up our sleeves and getting into dirty code. We love making an impact on the future success of the live game. If characters get wiped on testlive, nobody will cry about it. Raising a new character from scratch is most of the fun anyway.

My sincere hope is that we can move ALL NEW CODE testing to testlive in the future and not roll the dice on our live servers. Life will be better for everyone if this happens - won’t it? If you need to, make multiple testlive groups, so different code sets can be tested in parallel.

Be bold, break the new game dev pattern of rolling the dice with your end user experience. Roll out changes only after rigorous testing. Don’t just take the one dev’s word who said "yep, this change seems to run fine.

With games, about all we can do now is vote with our wallets. Well, my wallet isn’t coming out for any more DLCs or Dune, until I see a major change in Funcom. I like the game very much and have been a Funcom fan for many years, but this could be handled much better and it should be.
