I don’t know how effective this is going to be, but can you at least give a 24 hour notification before a significant patch or update? As an admin for several servers, it would have been nice to have done a proper backup the day/night before so that there would be less of a chance of significant loss. As it was, we only knew that there was going to be an update this week because you released the Devkit Friday, saying there was going to be one, but didn’t give a date.
I know that a lot of the frustration is from the community simply not knowing something is going to happen and being surprised by it. A simple 1 day announcement would make a lot of our problems a lot easier to deal with.
So please, consider keeping not just the modders, but the community appraised of when an update or patch is coming, so we have time be ready.
Technically, those that knew about the Devkit had 4 days. But you’re missing or ignoring the point. The whole idea of giving a 24 hour notification is so that admins can create a backup of the server, with as little loss of player activity as possible. At the 24 hour mark, I would think and hope that they devs are sure that they going to be releasing the update/patch, so this shouldn’t be an unknown date or time.
you make backups only before patches? the game.db is a very fragile system, especially if you use mods on your server. a daily backup is obligatory. if you don’t want to lose too much in case of problems, a backup every 8-12 hours is recommended. no matter if a game update is pending or not 1 backup every 24 hours as minimum
