Walk/Run toggle key does not work

[Walk/Run toggle key does not work. When walk mode is toggled, the character continues to run, but sprinting (holding shift key) is not possible. Walking never happens.]


Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Toggle Walk/Run with button press
  2. Move forward
  3. Character proceeds to run, sprinting is impossible
  4. Toggle Walk/Run with button press
  5. Character still runs, sprinting is again possible

It does work, just the new accleration.

It does work, but not like it used to. It seems to work best when the character is not moving. If the character is standing still, then toggling it will work for the next movement. You can tell it is working because the camera shifts slightly. The character has to be standing still. Complete stop.

Things get strange when the character is moving, even if just a little. If the character is walking, I find that toggling will usually start the character running. If the character is running, toggling it will usually have no effect, but if the character stops, the next time they move they will walk.

(Edit: If the character is running, and walk is toggled, sprinting does not work. However, if, while still running, walk is toggled again, sprinting will be possible. While the character is running, and unable to sprint, if they stop, when they resume moving, they will be walking.)

Works for me. I can walk, run, or sprint as always. My horse can as well.

Yeah it seems to work if the character is at a full standstill - but not always. Still I hardly think this is working as intended? If it is, it’s a pretty bad implementation if I dare say so.

Yeah, also did reset them and set them to new custom ones several times.
The weapon sheath thing happens to me too, I also reset that key several times but no dice, still no weapon sheathing happening. Thanks for the tip though!

I noticed it was difficult to change between walk/run as well. From what I’ve seen you have to come to a complete stop in order to switch, which is rather bizarre to me and I hope it gets changed. Sometimes that doesn’t always work though.

I can confirm that this is a bug, it seems like every 3-4 attempts at walking from a stopped position will result in jogging.

It has nothing to do with momentum, the walk key just randomly does not work on occasion.

Also, when you’re jogging (not sprinting) and hit walk it doesn’t stop you every time either, you have to make a turn or just stop moving altogether for it to trigger, and even then it doesn’t always happen.

Same on our server, before restarting server (and updating mods) all is ok, and after that “bug” appear. :confused:

This looks to be wider than just the walk/run toggle keybind.

I have noticed that there is a related bug regarding being over encumbered. If the character can manage to be moving at a run when they become over encumbered, they will continue to run and not drop back to a walk until they stop. I do not have specific steps to reproduce.

Observation indicates that the larger issue seems to be that the character cannot change from run to walk while moving, so the change happens the next time they move after a full stop.

I noticed the same thing about encumbrance, elsonso. I agree with you it’s kind of hard to reproduce, but if I over encumber myself while still moving I can run at normal speed when I should be forced to walk. Not really a big deal for me but I assume that’s not what the devs intended.

That’s actually a big deal, good catch.

I haven’t tested that one out myself, but oof, that’s super exploitable if someone figures out how to do that regularly.
