Most NPCs in this village would drop a few steel bars and other items. Now they only drop a taxidermy item and maybe a weapon, this makes this city useless for anything other than perhaps thrall hunting.
Were steel bars removed from these NPCs, is there a new area or group of NPCs that now have a chance to drop steel?
They screwed up loot drops in season 2 to give other mats and less good loot. For instance less Legendary’s and more hardened steel crap. Suddenly shade bloom drops more.
It’s not just that location. I noticed frost giants only drop black ice and arrows. No spiced foods anymore, so if you don’t have protection against cold snap, you’re screwed.
Tried the den, sepermeru etc, the loot system is horrible at the moment. They don’t drop any weapons or anything of use. And can’t find anywhere that drops steel weapons or steel bars.
Always 1 step forwards, two steps back with this game lol. My game just froze too (PS5) with texture issues, I don’t think this has been optimized at all for PS5, it ran better on a PS4 on an external SSD.
Merry Christmas!
New Asgard was not the only steel farming place.
Mount of the dead
Wine cellar
Volcano
Was 3 more basic places to loot tons of steel bars and of course
Sepermeru chests
Unnamed city skeletons
Were dropping a quite good portion of them to make a good start.
Yet the question is…
How much steel do we need after all?
The “new” harvesting perks can provide you tons of iron from iron stones. If you make a simple visit to plenty iron stone spawns of this map, you’ll get so much iron that you literally ain’t going to use in the end. I don’t even bother to turn it on iron reinforcement and change it to steel reinforcement anymore with a tier 3 blacksmith. We can repair tools on our inventory and from lvl 35, no matter the players experience, 4 perks in expertise and 3 perks in agility, you can run all around the map and return with 150k iron stones in 3 to 4 hours gameplay.
That means 75k iron bars.
Unless you play pvp, in pve these iron bars are more than enough for a month.
So new Asgard may be not so profitable on steel, but around, in just a walk you can have tons of iron.
Use your pick .
Try farming skeletons in the Unnamed City. Not only is it the best thrall XP per hour now… but they drop steel bars (among a lot of other useful things)
Perhaps, but then you have to farm to make steelfire, then wait to convert it. Farming steel was nice for early game since you’re killing enemies anyway. It was just convenient.
Merry Christmas brother .
Yes, but you still get a small portion, it’s not totally eliminated from the loot table . Now however you find lot’s of other bars (star metal - obsidian) and many reinforced iron and steel.
I recommend checking chests. They tend to drop all of those, but mostly higher tier like hardened steel and stuff. It’s as though they decided steel was too low tier. That being said, the best option now is possibly farming from the purge loot if you’re too lazy to farm and craft. It drops the reinforcements. Just convert said reinforcements to steel.
What’s the steel used for again? I haven’t used steel bars since the regular old pickaxe. Hardened steel is farmed from the castle. You don’t even need to break a gate, and just circle around the parameter killing stygians and getting around 10 bars per weapon collected. Steel reinforcements are done with higher end blacksmiths.
I mainly use them for building… so either decor that uses steel or steel reinforcements for T3 build sets. But otherwise, they’re mostly used to convert to hardened steel for mods. I don’t use them outside building much.
I tried \ bunch of places (even unnamed city skeletons) they didn’t give me any steel bars or weapons, but did give some other not bad loot.
Wine cellar is a bit iffy (just that first bridge jump, the game can glitch you and make you fall lol) but I might look down there, otherwise can try the volcano. I just wanted to avoid having to make steel fire and that whole process if possible, I have 4 expertise with rare chance drop which should mean iron is no problem
Could you recommend any good spots to loot steelfire? brimstone and iron are fine, tar is a bit annoying, not sure whether hides or coal in the fluid press is more efficient, I can get a tonne of coal if needed
If you’re outfitting thralls with armor, I’d go with tar. I’m constantly making leather and thick leather for hardened leather. You’ll end up with tons of tar. I have so much right now that I filled up 4 fire siege cauldrons at my purge base, plus a couple chests full.
You’re right, I just did some testing and though it’s not hard to get 2000 coal, it’s 25 coal for 1 tar (2000 gave about 80 tar) whereas from 1 hyena I can get 112 hides which count as 3 normal hides, so 112 tar, much more efficient. I just need to get a T4 tanner, shame they removed the steel bars from new asgarth, that was 210 steel bars roughly every 20-30 mins. But will do it this old fashioned way for now. (steel drops from chests or undead are too intermittent)
