My ideal vision would take days brake someone building.
That resources be low so it take time to build but it also take just long to brake someone’s defensive.
That defenders will have advantage for most part, attackers will have use attrition.
Then both side will get aid by transfers from other servers that they quested based resources they dump. Have system like match system that people get free charter transfer you to fight.
Defenders would try push attackers off land and kill and strip there gear, attackers would do same till they abled to make whole in wall.
I think main part like everything else go least resistance. Off line raided because no one wants fight small window nothing gained.
Monthly wipes with higher gather and XP rates to be ready for PvP in 2-3 days.
PvP fights over the map. 6v6 (clan size 6).
Remove PvP from horses, just use them as transportation.
Base raid but only destroy beds and steal dragon powder, so a quick buildup of the raided clan is possible and they can rejoin the PvP battles and raiding.
Max 7500 building pieces. So people will have to build smart.
The defending side would spend their time building smartly and amassing resources.
The attacking side would need to scout and plan an attack, analyzing the defenses and probing for weak points. Using a variety of methods from trebuchets to battering rams, they’d have to battle in order to take a fortress. Skill, proper planning, and occasional luck would all need to play an important role in a siege.
Defenses would be adequate to give attackers trouble if not dealt with/planned around.
Character Transfers could not take inventory items. None of this “Transfer in with god coin and 600 dragon powder” BS we have right now. No OP siptah weapons in the exiled lands (Feroxic Daggers, I’m looking at you)
Offline Raid Protection enabled with a long cooldown so that if you log out in the middle of a raid, your stuff is still vulnerable for quite some time.
Removal of lances from horseback OR proper counters to horses. Historically, cavalry was countered with pikes, archers, and traps. Also, horses were expensive, so losing even 1 was a setback. In conan, however, chances are you’ve got about 30 in a fridge somewhere ready to go.
Personally, I’d get into pvp if there was some kind of scoring system tbh. Like, players/thralls/pets killed vs times killed stats and similarly for pieces destroyed. In order for me to be drawn to “competition” I need some metric to let me know how bad I stunk and whether or not I was doing better.
What I would like to see is:
Log of before raidtime starts = instant protection
Log of/in during raid time = your lose
Introduction of a bank account. Entering over the tab menu. Every player/clan leader gets a certain amount of slots that you then can fill with whatever items you want until full. This items are safe and can not been taken away by others but have a cooldown time of lets say 4-6 hours in reverse. This way you can not constantly take stuff out and in.
I am aware that people might use this to store away their dp or use it for farming, but for me thats ok. People need to deside whats personally important to them and others should respect it. Raiding for fun/ to get a little loot as reward or a nice fight with each other should be the goal for Funcom to aim for, not the total deconstruction and demolishing of bases. Most people are not willing to permanently loose everything. You can clearly see this on people´s overall reactions and actions to raids. Most people that try pvp quickly stop playing after realizing the devastating effects pvp has on them. Thats why numbers are declining. Thats why people are leaving pvp. For most pvp is not fun, but it should be fun.
People need a solid reason to go back to pvp. Pvp has turned into a spiral of abuse, toxicity and complete devastation. We need a way out of this mess so people are able again to equally participate in a mode that can offer you great joy if done right.
Interesting ideas. I wouldn’t complain if FC implemented them @Hel.
In response @Styker (I knew a Styker in ESO - same?):
I don’t think of PVP play in terms of what I wish for or what I think ought to be. I just play it to Funcom’s vision. So, I really have no ideals outside of what is currently in place - I just play and have fun. Currently that entails building moderately, making friends on the server by being cool, keeping intelligent storage location(s), going on raids with others, being raided (typically about once or twice a month), being a productive member of the clan, exploring the map and building up the character in the meantime.
It’s fun as it is. If they add or change things I’ll probably have the same amount of fun. No expectations, no disappointments.
I know that’s abnormal for these forums and I’m supposed to yearn desperately for my own ideas to be implemented while hating on FC for limiting it to their own ideas but that seems so pointless to me. They never implement any of these things anyway. And ideas like @Hel’s above are already available via mods - so if that’s what I need then I would just do that.
This is a good question. @Styker I don’t like your ideas at all but I liked your post because you opened this conversation.
My take on this is similar. T2 builldings are immune to arrows and orbs, T3 buildings are immune to arrows, orbs and bombs. So only placeables like doors and chests can be bombed in a T3 base. Make people use trebs for walls. I just need to figure out what to do about people being able to pick up pieces now
Basically I’d like bases that can be raided easily when undefended, but the effort needed to totally destroy them is just not worth it.
100% agree. You wanna change servers you should be magically transported/shipwrecked naked. Nothing but your wits.
I agree they should remove lances. I know they’re part of the setting, but it just feels too “medieval knight” and not barbarian enough! Not to mention they do far too much damage. Also, some traps would be nice, or the ability to brace a spear. Do those two things and they’d be pretty balanced I think. Mounts are easily frustrated unless it’s very open terrain. And I do like that they’re in the game and that you can be a cavalryman if you want.
Totally agree. So they need to build those limits into the game. As long as it’s easy for someone to burn it all down, they will.
*Server resets every 3-6 months.
*Thralls do significantly less damage to other players or thralls. Their function is support/condition application, not dps.
*Target lock is off.
*Attacks against players while mounted do no damage.
*Allow players to cancel their animation but the result is no damage is done and the cancellation uses the same amount of stamina as the attack. Basically, a way to stop an attack that doesn’t require a dodge roll.
*Dagger backflip should use as much stamina as a dodge roll or close to it.
*Modify obelisks to function like “blue zones” in Imperial City in ESO (or better yet remove map rooms and obelisks completely).
*PvP is on 24/7.
*Dynamic building damage is on 24/7, 30 minute cool-down.
*No fixed raid hours but no “day of rest” either.
*Remove bombs from the game.
*Add crowbars/lockpicks for opening small/large chests. Use requires an amount of time that scales with strength/agility.
*Add a portable battering ram for opening doors, hatches and gates. Time to open scales off the number of players on the ram, up to a max.
*Turn off building piece pickup.
*Allow damage from orbs to stack but only when from unique sources (ie 3 players can put three stacks of demon fire on a door but no more).
*opening chests with orbs/arrows/trebs destroys their contents. Vaults are not affected by this.
*Game recognizes that a “structure” is being attacked and disallows repair/placement(exception is bedrolls, thralls, pets and trebs)/pickup while in this state and for a time afterwards.
*add some traps/secret door placeable to the game that cannot be seen by other players.
*Reduce resource/thrallable npc/baby pet regeneration so that these reset once per day. Non-thrallable npc’s/creatires and chests regen at the same rate as now.
*Add a leaderboard to give us a reason to compete and objectively determine who is “winning”.
*Slowed to crouch speed when moving with a placeable “out”.
*Increase the rate that a purge is earned and reduce the burndown.
*replace decay system with something like the system used in rust. Maintenance cost scales with the total number of placeable on the map, not just the size of that specific structure.
I like how you see things and if pvp had more people with that attitude we would engange with each other in a more enjoyable environment.
All I can see right now on most servers I play is pure toxicity and abuse. Every attempt to make a step towards people to be friendly or kind ends up in a desaster. People´s interpretation of beeing fair and social is you are weak, you are a p…, you do not have a glue how pvp works, you should go and play pve and so on. There is no trust left in people that others can be friendly or fair too. It became too rare. People always suspect the worst and this tells me how deep the ship has already sunken.
Personally I am on the egde of leaving pvp for good, because I am not sure that there is a chance anymore to save it. I can play it as is, no doubt about it. But I miss the fights and the raids I have enjoyed many years ago, where people just took a raid or fight as nothing personal, enjoyed it to engage in online raids and often times only placed one bomb in front of your door to tell you to come out to play. It wasn´t about the loot or the dragon powder, it was about the fun of fighting each other and little loot got taken only as a souvenir and was understood as token of appreciation. Don´t get me wrong, I still love pvp. I would deeply miss it would I stop playing it. But when it comes to choosing of what is more enjoyable because its less toxic right now, I choose pve. Just because I am tired of constantly fighting. I am burning out of pvp not because of the pvp itself but of people. Conan is my heart and soul. But fighting a war that, at least in my eyes, I can not win, because there are to few people that understand that pvp needs to drastically change in order to keep it an long term option for Funcom and help towards achieving this is tiresome and not worth it in the end.
I was always an advocate of fair play and speaking out what needs to be said without hidding behind etiquette and feigned niceties. This is something for politians to do not for a simple girl like me. Even if people are not abroving my direct and sometimes provocative way of speaking out to others and Funcom I can honestly say I always speak with my whole heart and commitment and I loved the pvp crowed until the hardcores started to destroy it all with their non-stop search for exploits and abuses. Always more, always higher, always further.
No PvP PvE or pve-c segregation. We all are in the same server. Highlights once targeted will have different colors to designate the person or building is targetable or not.
Sounds like you’re playing on Russian servers or something. Russian youths are sometimes like that. It can be pretty funny (rather than frustrating) to watch though.
Yeah, I get that. Either one PVP or PVE by itself can become stale. I’m on a bunch of different servers - I think currently nine. It’s almost half and half with a few privates mixed in. Besides too much PVE building spam there’s no toxicity anywhere to be seen. Well, actually there is one private PVE server who has the settings set in some way where all benches and boxes are lootable by anyone at any time. Can’t break any building tho. That makes for an interesting dynamic - which one could perceive as toxic I suppose.
I play on european servers. A lot of people, a lot of countries that are comming together and most do not understand each other, because speaking english in chat seems to be something of a core for most. It got better over the years but it is often times still a core to communicate. We also get many russian players on our servers. Russia is not part of the european union, therefore should get their own official servers like asia. But atm we all get mixed together, a big wagon full of different countries and languages which is not playing out very well often times when it comes to communication and trust. Nothing against my russian friends, I don´t mean to offend anyone, but in my experience a lot of russians are highly toxic and behave in a badly manor against non russian players. It often times feels more like we are fighting a real life war then an ingame battle, if that makes sense. They do not like europeans very much and do not make bones about it. This leads to a lot of conflicts. Private servers are much more enjoyable for most european players because they then can set their own language rules, and everybody who doesn´t follow this rules gets banned. Mostly thoose servers accept one or two country languages and english on top for those who actually do not speak or understand the other languages. Works out much better.
I played on a private server for a while that was both. It was pretty cool, if you put a * next to your clan name you were PvP and fair game to other PvP clans. If you were PvE you couldn’t be attacked or attack others. There was a cooldown for changing your status, I can’t remember how long.
I only played on it for six weeks, but it seemed to work pretty well. When a PvE clan was raided, the rest of the server banded together and smashed the offenders. Likewise when a “PvE” clan surprise attacked someone.
It worked surprisingly well now that I think about it, and that was without any coded limits, just rules and an admin
Basically Planetside 2. Coupled with a building system like Conan has. Full scale wars and sieges with hundreds of players is my ideal vision for PVP.
I have seen something akin to a moderately sized battle seen in PS2 within Conan. Where there was 20-30 people per side with multiple trebs being fired at one another and bombs, arrows, orbs, and mayhem just all over the place. If your PC can handle it, its some of the most fun you will have in Conan Exiles.
