You would have separate servers running dungeon instances. A server can only run one map at a time. If they’d make them instanced, you’d have to connect to a different server each time you go into a dungeon. Given how Conan Exiles was programmed, this would mean you’d have to create a new character for each dungeon dungeon instance.
Didn’t they used to release free map expansions? I’ve played from the beginning, but my memory is foggy. Seems like the original release was less of the map and updates released new gods and the jungle. I could be wrong but that’s what I remember. IDK Fallout 76 just released a free map expansion and it brought in new players. I think bringing back DLC’s that had entire building sets, armor, weapons, skins/mounts, etc for $10 would also bring in more money than nearly $33 Celestial Scholar packs.
I want new dungeons. I also want a loadable instance underworld where I can build bases in a network of caves.
The curse wall has been moved before, we still have broken parts (pillars/pylons?) where the old wall once was. The Frozen North was added first around Aug 2017 and the Eastern Jungle/Swamps along with the Volcano were added May 2018 with CE leaving early access if I remember correctly.
I don’t see why lore wise it would be an issue either (don’t remember but there was no lore issue when they added the other parts by simply moving the wall further), the Giant Kings could have encircled another area because what was behind it ‘caged’ or ‘walled-off’ was too dangerous or something they didn’t want others to find or know about.
Personally I feel it would be a perfect opportunity to add the long lost Picts properly to EL with a varied area in the north-eastern undeveloped parts, adding perhaps the redwoods we have on Siptah plus some more marsh land and a bit more snowy forests and perhaps even ashen lands on that side of the Volcano. It could also serve perfectly to add something like an Elder Vault, finally getting some of the Siptah assets on EL.
I believe there is still a lot that could be done and developed, but it’s perhaps not seen as worth the while and effort if they can just add bazaar items for increasingly higher prices instead.
Aside from that I feel that there are numerous other things that are more important at this point to get this game back into a better state, but map extension in general seems to me at least a viable possibility.
I don’t think trying to monetize an expansion is an issue really, they’ve already ruled it out. Siptah split the player base, one of the core reasons for its failure, hence the move to make gameplay updates free. The monetization would be more indirect. Entice players in to play the new expansion, increases retention, likely more Bazaar interaction, especially if there’s a bundle to follow the introduction of a new culture in the new biome
Performance probably wouldn’t be much of an issue on PC, it’s more consoles that might struggle. Their hardware, especially on last-gen consoles, is already pretty outdated compared to PC players. I’d imagine console players make up the majority of the current total playerbase, so it needs to work well there, or you end up with another situation like Al Merayah where nobody wants to do it because it performs terribly
Technical limitations aside, I do believe expanding the map is a bad idea from a gameplay standpoint. When you have a multiplayer server, whether it be for PVE or PVP. You want players to interact with one another as much as possible. This builds a community and keeps players engaged.
Even with 70 players online, the map is quite large. Large enough that it can take time for players to run into each other. This is exacerbated by the fact we have mounts and teleportation as well.
Expanding the map would, and has made this issue worse.
Well, let’s put it this way:
Without fixing the stuff they broke and putting some cherry on top of it, they’ll have lost and lose a lot of players.
Personally, I’d start with fixing and finishing the stuff they started, e. g.
- add the missing corrupted attributes,
- add some spells and
- reversing the UI, movement and combat changes.
Buuuuuut that’s not how they seem to work - for whatever reason. Instead, it seems Funcom tends to or is driven to constantly add new stuff, even if of dubious quality. A map expansion would be more welcome, I assume, than another iteration of thrall nerfs, a grand new quicktime action based cooking system and a broken fishing system that doesn’t work.
P. S.: Adding Telith’s ghost would also be a huuuuge reason to return to the game and spend lots of money, based on a randomized survey among Conan Exiles players.
Please see @droch-aon’s comment.
Uhm, yeah, thanks.
they could work on encouraging people playing together, i have not seen this happening. and knowing their incapacity to work on fixing the game and or bring more polished features (heck even the bazar items are given without proper testing) so back to reality i do not see them expanding i do not see them having the bandwith to work on something like this, when tehre is so much work that needs to be done.
i would say , first work on fixing the game, work on the performance side which is absolute garbage as it is tooday (official servers) .
fixing bugs, should be a priority for them, (yes keep bringing bazaar items to fund it) but i rather NOT TAKE ANY MORE NEW FEATURES , i can leave without new feature for a full year, if they commit to fix the game.
Have you by chance played isle of siptah? Its the dlc expansion and I have been loving it for a long time since release.
There will be no map expansion.
The main problem is in how would you allow only the players who paid for it to enter those areas.
make it free?
As far as I know, No Man Sky released all their expansions free of charge…so it ain’t unheard of.
You don’t. The whole point of this monetization crap was to provide a revenue stream for continued base game development. In fact, one of the biggest problems with Siptah, acknowledged by Funcom, was that it divided the players, so they definitely won’t want to repeat that mistake.
After Siptah released, there were many player suggestions on how to improve it, and a lot were implemented.
Amongst the things I supported were adding non-slavery-based thrall acquisition by freeing captives and adding map transfer. And both got added. Okay, map transfer was removed later, but they seemed to listen back then.
One doesn’t have to like all the ideas that players brought. And maybe it was all random. But at least I had the impression that they looked at the forums and picked some of the ideas they liked. That was nice. Sad it changed.
Hahahahaha. Where have you been recently? Free stuff?
It kind of had to because One Man’s Lie was kind of an absolute clustershit when it came out.
Exactly.
Actually, it’s to squeeze as much money as possible before the game is shelved for Dune.
not sure where you were recently…should I explain to you the difference between cosmetics and content?
So content would be something like the head hunt event, or the savage hunt…you know, free or included in the base game…in other words no extra money for people who had already bought the game.
Cosmetics, like a telescope, or a new set of building sets…if you like and want it you pay…
a map exitention by definition is “content”…so, not sure what you were laughing at their, you own ignorance?
