What's next for Conan?

Is there anything new on the horizon or is this game pretty much over?

Bug fixes. This game will be having bugs fixed for who knows how long.

Given that they’ve stopped even acknowledging bug reports, I’d question whether we’re even going to see any more bug fixes…

Well October is coming.

I recall your mention of “spaghetti code”.

I’d ask Funcom for better communication, but I’m not that stupid.

Remember when they promised us that…more than once? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

It feels like this game was swiftly abandoned after the AoH Ch.1 release and its overwhelmingly negative reception, which of course they had forewarning and reason to expect given how serious the bugs reported by beta testers were beforehand. Maybe they saw all the bugs and tech debt and determined they would save more money by abandoning the game right then than they’d earn through further development.

If that’s what happened, it would sure explain the silence, and I sympathise with the individual devs if so since I doubt it was their choice. No doubt Conan was near the end of its life, but it feels premature.

Very disappointing, since I had looked forward to the Living Settlements feature, but have yet to play with it due to the many as of yet unfixed issues. :frowning:

For any company that cares about its players, I would have expected more communication rather than practically all of it cutting off with such a buggy release, along with an attempt to at least fix the core advertised features of the free update. (I guess we arguably got attempts, after months of waiting.)

If the game was not abandoned, I’d have expected for them to at least finish releasing already implemented Bazaar content they advertised beforehand, like the adorable Persian kitty Andy showed off on the pre-release stream.

Best I will hope is that someone in charge at Funcom decides at some point to go, “hey, what about that Conan game again?” and put a couple devs actively on the task of some final fixes and content releasing. Even that may be optimistic, which is a shame since I love this game, but when the dev is silent and updates are few and far between without fixing serious issues with the current Age, so be it.

Genuine thanks to Andy and whoever else has kept Conan going for as long as it has been with little recognition, with these last few patches; I know it must not be easy on the Hyborean skeleton crew.

Well, let’s see, Dune launched.
It is rocky, but it made a pile of money.
Based on Funcom SOP, Conan Exiles will be put out to pasture, possibly with a few more updates to make it less playable to encourage people to stop playing.
Official servers will be either diminished or closed, but without the transfer option being brought back.
We may see a few of the unimplemented features finished and released, or they will be removed from the admin panel.
There may be a Bazaar update or two.
But unlikely.
Some platforms get snippy when publishers sell content that they will immediately remove. Makes customers angry and eventually the math will say that maintaining live services for all platforms for this game is a waste and they’ll axe it.
They may try to make the game online only before they sunset it, but that is inadvisable.

This one would like to be proven wrong, but this one must base expectations on what we have already seen.

I have noticed since i have been playing Dune, that there are some similiarities in mechanics in Dunenthe were introduced in Cona about 2 years ago and up until AoH ch 1. Which is normal for a studio to do. Test ideas and mechanics to understand how to implement in thier next title. Journey system and 1 companion quest are just 2 that stand out. So reality is they now have a test client for Dune. So it may be the late stages of the down stroke fo Conan :frowning:

Exiles may be laid to rest. Maybe in the next few years another Conan game will come along, and not just Funcom running a Dune game. I’d like to think they won’t just toss this whole i.p. they paid for into a storage closet.

Honestly, this one hopes there will be more Conan/Hyborian games not from Funcom.
Hope they sell the IP.

The chances of this one purchasing another game from Funcom is effectively zero.

  1. continued silence from Funcom.
  2. already seem to have pulled the plug on CE customer support/reporting system
  3. server merge announcements incoming

Honestly, at the moment the idea they would even announce it seems optimistic…

Very eloquent, and I think the most likely scenario. The dev’s appear exceedingly talented in their roles and the rationalist’s in charge may even see what they do as necessary for the longevity of the studio. But, theres no point if people hate them for getting them emotionally tied to a fantasy world that they abandon in ruin. I’d rather they were just honest.

In just over two weeks, half a year will have passed since this promise was made by the project director.

i just hope the end of CE development and support won’t mean that the game can’t be played anymore. It’s playable in single player after all.

The fact that Funcom games with tiny player bases like Secret World or AoC are still running gives me hope.

My #2 BR is/was ring of Elysium. Right up there with pubG for quality… when first released. Which was called pubG in winter; before the new biomes were added.
I played it when you had to have a VPN because it was area restricted. I learned what 开始 meant. No, none of it was in English, but the destroyable surroundings was epic. Ya, go ahead, hide behind that box :smiling_face_with_horns:

It was a jungle biome then but released with an extreme snow sports event as part of the winter map. Epic game, then tencent got it and did what tencent does.
The game has been on life support for years. People still play; few hundred, server still up, all the maps just as broken, battle passes and season events still running. Hell I still got credits in the game.

As long as people are still playing Conan there will still be servers up for it.

Maybe there will be a group of modders, making an “unofficial patch” mod for CE. For lots of other games, there are these lovable kind of nerds. :face_blowing_a_kiss:
