A dark future for Conan games franchise

After the fiasco of Age of Conan years ago…
We have the fiasco on customer support on Conan Exiles.

Every new big patch is leaving the game unplayable for many without specific answers to customers that have been faithful for years and years.

Now Funcom is developing a new Conan game:

It’s a sad day when Funcom is keeping the rights over this franchise.
Conan deserves better, the player base deserves better.

You have a faulty game engine, terrible customer support and non-existent test-team.

The player base deserves more respect, after they paid for your games and DLCs.

Our server just got wiped out by two people using the dupe exploit. I saw the video posted about it a few weeks ago and thought this might be my last with Conan.

Why won’t community managers say anything about this? @Dana hello?

If they 1. Don’t turn off building damage whenever there’s an exploit, and 2. Wait weeks without saying anything about it, whats the point of playing Conan anymore?

Ummmm dude that was last year and I believe the game was Conan Chop Chop that is already out so I don’t think CE is going anywhere.

You all just need to be patient. I lost half of all my stores last dupe exploit but I’m playing because its not about the stuff but the interactions with others. If you forget that basic concept, you are going to be miserable in PVP so why play a game if you are going to be miserable?

They know of it and are working on it. That is what i know. Do you want them to shut down the game completely? I don’t. I like playing. I do agree that perhaps turn off PVP and remove jars after the fix is in. Maybe even start banning folks that show a certain event log trend.

No no sorry my dude, this is exactly the flawed mentality that a rare minority of players have, it’s called a white knight attitude

See the problem with your thinking is that, we don’t actually need to be patient at all. The devs just need to simply do one thing - acknowledge what’s going on and make a simple on/off switch that can at least HELP the problem.

That is what a normal developer would do. Normalcy.

Because Funcom does not so things normal or the right way, their abnormal and destructive way of doing things becomes normal to YOU. And so, you pivot and say that it’s the players who have to do X Y or Z.

It’s a bizarre, twisted set of mental gymnastics you can see in ANY white knight comment on the internet, about any topic.

The problem with white knighting is it is an ENABLING mentality.

For example, if enough people backed up Funcom by saying “Don’t worry” "Be patient’ “It’s not a big deal” Funcom could then use the lack of heat and pressure to do nothing.

As another example, let’s say you have a family member who uses heroin, and a friend keeps saying “Just be patient”, “Let him use just this time”, “He’ll quit eventually” it’s the same exact thing.

You’re the little voice advocating enabling bad behavior

When a DLC is disruptive a rollback is the right way to proceed. Then finally use a competent test team to finally test things out before a release.
Implementing a patch with cosmetic DLC fixes did nothing to fix the game and players are left with a gimp game (if not crashed) and seeing what they achieved being destroyed in many cases.

I’m sure Funcom will fix it soon.

OK fine be miserable. This isn’t a game breaking bug, just base breaking.

I’m far from a White Knight and that label is just a method to discount what I have to say over the matter. I’m one of the folks that immediately brought it to their attention last week but it’s been only a week and it involves a critical aspect of the game (IE the new building system) so I’m not demanding a knee-jerk reaction because that kills the future updates and complicates things even more long term. I am addressing this like i would any of my employees. Let them know the issue, give them the appropriate time, and follow up as necessary. See I believe the game and its success comes from joint efforts of development and player interactions and so how do you think it’s going to work out if we have an adversarial relationship? What I don’t do is play this emotional Karen customer card and pretend that wiping bases is a rare thing in PVP.

This requires a shut down of the game I am playing so yes this is asking for a shut down.

Ok you’re done dude

Classic case of sitting in your own little bubble lecturing others

You even admitted if your server isn’t getting wiped it shouldn’t affect you. Go say that to all the people suffering on the game. It’s all about you and your gameplay, not the greater game at large.

Firstly what are you wanting to switch off?

And secondly name me one game/dev company that has done what you’re asking?

It runs fine on Xbox and pc, I’m really starting to think this is a Sony hardware problem.

Also, may I ask what you do for a living that makes you so knowledgeable?

He can’t, because he is talking out of his a$$, as is clear by his constant attitude and name calling of people who have already brought the issue he is complaining about to the attention of the people who need to address it. The difference is, @erjoh didn’t act like a spoiled little child when they brought the issue up and demand instant gratification and so somehow that makes him a “white knight”, you know, the “go to” insult for anyone who doesn’t happen to give in to your hissy fit of the hour for these types.

Ummm I just did. And the folks that know me also know I lost more than what most of the player base have with just that 50% loss from the last dupe issue so it’s not like I haven’t been affected by this. I just don’t see the need to cling to the digital crap because it’s not about that but about the interactions with other players that matter. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to protect said crap, that’s part of the game but when something like this happens… c’est la vie.

Bolded the important part of that. ITS A GAME! You play PVP, you don’t have an expectation of keeping your stuff. If a glitch happens, it happens and you move on. If you want to stomp and bash and cry…fine…do so but don’t think for a second that it’s mature in any sense of the word.

Obviously, they are decision to take which is of the commun sense, simply turn off pvp damage done to buildings time it’s fixed.

put a prioty for zendesk on treating the use of this exploit.

I mean in past when there was problem of exploits with gods, they turned off the use of gods time to fix it. when there was a major exploit with character transfer, 24h after the report they turned off character transfer (not talking of actual stop of character transfer that is due to another reason with characters lost)

so we now have a major exploit that in adittion is widely public and that can be combined in easy way with raid and just allow to nuke everything in few seconds. i mean my gameplay is actually to chase people naked full of fiber and stone that destroy all and is nonsense because in fact you can do nothing against it…

so i do not know what happens with fc recently, i just cannot understand the way it’s dealed.

WRONG. When the update went live, these forums were flooded with Xbox reports naming the same issues as the PS4 players. It was a console issue, not PS related.

Even now, Xbox official servers are getting bombarded with bomb duping. There are more Xbox reports than PS reports on this that I’ve seen.

You have no idea how bad an ironic this comment looks after what I just pointed out. Not only did you expose the fact you had no clue what platform these issues have been rampant on, but followed it up by trying to dismiss or discredit someone for having an opinion asking for what they do for a living.

Only a troll comment like this would try to smoke and mirrors the fact these things only require common sense to say

Atrocious

YES and this is why it’s incredible people can’t see that. Disabling PVP is not perfect but it is the IMMEDIATE step they can take right now to stem the terrible bleeding and players quitting.

It’s only you that perceives it that way. People are not “crying about the glitch”, they’re putting fire under Funcom for lack of communication, explanation, and urgent take of even any sort of short term fix. All of which are very easy and simple for them to do.

Is literally everyone single one of your replies ironic and self-damaging?

Funcom right here has disabled gods and transfers as emergency fixes and then made public statements about it, to the understanding and appreciation of many

It would actually be a Talent if you accidentally made every reply that short sighted.

You’re absolutely right, you don’t have to be patient. What @erjoh meant is that it’s your only option if you keep playing the game. It’s been reported, Funcom knows about it, and it’s anyone’s guess when it will be fixed.

Does that suck? Yeah. Should you be miserable over it? I don’t know, that’s for you to decide.

As usual, people who throw the “white knight” label around on these forums have this weird idea that Funcom needs defending and that when another player points something out that doesn’t agree with you, it somehow “helps” Funcom.

Here’s a novel idea:

(kudos to @dorizzdt for using that in another thread)

Don’t get me wrong, nobody’s saying you should shut up, or that you should quit the game. You do whatever you want. What some of us are pointing out is that when you go from reporting these problems to screaming at anyone who doesn’t take up a pitchfork and a torch, all you’re doing is making yourself miserable. You certainly have the right to keep doing that, but if you think that’s going to make Funcom do a better job, you haven’t been paying attention for the past few years.

So even though I know you won’t take it as offered, here’s some friendly advice: instead of whipping yourself into a frenzy and hijacking a thoroughly misguided thread made by someone who couldn’t even bother to check a date on the article they got outraged about, maybe try doing something fun? If Conan Exiles isn’t part of that fun, that’s okay.

And yet you wrote that long essay and even yet you STILL miss the point. How can it possibly be THAT difficult to grasp basic concepts?

  1. People are asking for a public statement or acknowledgement, of which there have been none for two weeks

  2. Saying “Trust me bro, they’re working on it” from a random on a forum is not effective solution for the greater thousands of players having their servers wiped out. There are OFFICIAL methods for this, such as community manager statements, or in-game pop-up message, or official Twitter statements. THOSE are what should be taken, and it is easy and simple to do so. Not “Trust me bro.”

  3. People are asking for a short term fix such as emergency disabling PVP or explosive jars

You are also aiding to “pivot” the argument away from these core tenants and diminishing them by claiming they’re something they’re not. By using smooth word games to reshape things into “people want pitchforks and witch hunts” you’re just plain missing and missing and missing the mark.
