What's stopping conan from being the best it could be

More player ownership of the changes that will be implemented, q&a is great for a new feature, but the balance changes and existing feature changes should be discussed giving the actual numbers or description of changes, I can see this on eve online, star citizen, don’t treat your player base like they don’t know, I watch kiah on fire, Ana, illibet, Granny gamester, Wak4863, EradicatiOn, surely if these people who take so much time to promote the game were asked or involved in the game features development like an issue council or community council, there would be a much better outcome, do you want the game to thrive or what? Surely the company wants the player base happy, how do you get that without people like that involved.

I’m not trying to be negative, I really find the game addictive and it’s fun to build and craft, but the feature changes and balance changes make me feel like expert opinion is not being sought after.

  • Stop nerfing
  • Stop taking away features
  • Developers that listen to what we have to say and want
  • Stop rebalancing. Finish content, don’t change it. Done is done… no more revisiting old content unless there’s no other way for upcoming features
  • Stop taking away the fun
  • Fix the combat on M&K

I might come of salty, but I don’t mean to.
I loved this game, but it changed so much its not the same game anymore at the basis.

If I was new to the game, I wouldn’t be playing it in this state.

Devs playing their game, that’s all.

They’re completly disconnected, playing full controller and testing stuff in local coop.

If it was me I’d send them straight to official pvp servers so they can have a taste of what they’ve done, lemme tell you that they’d fix all of this overnight

All mmos change things from time to time, it’s not the change that is the issue but it’s having expert opinion from the player base like our great content creators who should have input BEFORE the changes are made. I am no expert myself but I see so much potential in this game, which I have found to be very engaging and addictive, but if they only got that expert opinion from the playerbase it would be that much better. Ask the content creators to join an inner council run the changes through them, they have 1000’s of hours playing the game.

The Devs.

I have a question, since you said you played for a while, has there ever been a community group that this game has that the developers discuss changes with before the change is implemented?

the devs dont play the game, they play in a lagless sandbox on a standalone client.

If they logged into 40/40 offical pvp server they’d realize how unoptimized and terrible the hosting servers are.

they have WAY too many servers, and could easily drop them to invest more into better processing power for the populated ones.

outdated hardware hosting offical servers is the biggest issue. all the lag- glitchy npcs. ai bugging out. - chests not loading. its all because the servers are hosted on litteral potatoes.

But how do you know that? Do you have any ideas for better information sharing? And content evaluation?

i know they dont play official severs because if they did they’d fix the server lag.

not a single sane person on this planet can sit and tell me if they logged into a 40/40 pvp server during active raid time. and had wait 4 minutes for a chest to populate items. that theyd be ok with that.

not a single sane person on this planet can sit and tell me that all the NPC’s standing still not moving becuase there’s bombs going off on a full server, is good functioning gameplay.

we’d put in tickets. we’d made forum posts. they dont read it. they dont care.

the verison of the game they play does not have these server issues because they have never and will never. login and actualy test the active offical pvp servers.

they never test it. i would put money on it. they have never seen how laggy their own servers are when they are full. they think we are crazy. the secound a server is full and bombs go off, everything stops working. dungeons. chests. stuff stops loading. players vanish and teleport.

Yes MMO’s do, however Conan isn’t a MMO and features also single player which also affect solo players experiences.

I have 1000s of hours in the game, but I don’t think that matters much. The only difference between players since the beginning and new players is we old players know the game before the changes and the game before Age of War was a lot better.

The same shows in the player base stats, players seem to be on a decline. Not because the game is getting older, but the game getting worse.

This is also a little based on assumption, but having many friends who play this game having the same experiences as I do and playing the game for a long time say the same.

I don’t think so, and if there is I would be very surprised if they approved Age of War.

Don’t get me wrong… the Age of War sounds nice if it had actual new content like Age of Sorcery did… but 80% of the updates are bugs, re-balancing, changes to old content and new items in the Bazaar and Battle Pass.

Like what new did we get?

  • Treasure hunting.
  • The siege is new.
  • The purge is revamped although also nothing more than a change to a system that never worked properly before and it kinda needed a change.

The rest are mostly changes no one in the right mind asked for. There is a ton of threads on the forums with good suggestions and additions to the game.

But I can’t find a single post about someone who wanted to not be able to repair legendary items and wanting to receive perma damage on gear for example.

And there is the answer I was looking for thankyou, so if the decision makers are reading this, remembering that negative feedback can be used constructively, if you don’t have a way of measuring things then how do you know that’s it’s good? So that means if you don’t have a player-base council made up of say content creators involved in decision making how can you get a good idea of the potential ramifications?

Let me give you an example, eve online had some issues, they decided to create an issue council from experienced players that saw the game turn around remarkably. They invited those members to meet them in person to discuss issues, to problem solve.

See here: The Impact of the Council of Stellar Management | EVE Online

CCP Ytterbium – Senior Game Designer

“The CSM is an invaluable asset to validate designs for EVE Online – as representatives of the player base, they bring the discussion from an angle we are not always fully aware about, give much needed feedback on feature changes before they go for public review, or even spontaneously come up with good ideas that add value to our concepts.”

Yeah well… they made a official feedback form about the latest changes regarding the mouse and keyboard aiming for example.

You can find the post here:

But so far radio silence. They still pushed Chapter 4 without anything taken in consideration looks like. Not even a word.

And to be clear… they never asked the community if we preferred to aim with keyboard instead of mouse (attack direction). They just changed it and listed the change as a bug fix.

Like … you gotta be kidding me.

Yes I have seen a q&a which is good for people understanding a new feature, and a survey which gets a general idea, but without discussion from a playerbase your not really going in-depth, if you scroll above you can read my post about community player base.

I know what you mean, just sharing what Funcom did so far

I hope some good changes can come of this, I have given an example of eve online senior game developers thoughts on how the community player base helped their own decision making.

I have tried to suggest that content creators and experienced players be a part of that community group so that developers of conan exiles can ask for feedback.

I think that with these two groups running suggestions to each other there will be much better outcomes. Remembering that the value of a game is word of mouth, you can create whatever content you want but if I tell my friend the company that makes the game, puts features in, changes features without asking players what they think, or avoid actual consultation by handing out a survey, why would that friend want to play, wouldn’t just snowball from there?

Truly at first it would seem I am trying to have a dig at the company. But if you just take it as that after all I wrote and don’t reflect after the evidence I provided from another game company, then really your lost.

This is a good example why you need a playerbase community group to run ideas through BEFORE you do things: https://x.com/wak4863/status/1775990225656852802

Is it so hard to engage with players here on the forum about it? Why try to hide it?

All the random comments and announcements, scattered around like afterthoughts, buried in between here and there.

How is this good marketing/business sense?

Like Den’s comment about fixing the precision stack… in a comment on a random forum post. No official post about it on the forums… hell not even on the fan run Discord as an announcement.

So much lack of continuity.

Yeah, exactly why we need an issue council made up of experienced players to represent the playerbase and communicate with funcom. In my opinion wak, Ana, illibet, EradicatiOn, Granny gamester, kiah on fire, these should be the people to help.

One key issue that cripples this game, is the very same key difference between what MMOs and this game uses as a database manager.
MMOs will never use this database manager for a damned good reason.
FC should have known better.
Look it up if you don’t believe me.
Once you do, you’ll discover where I’m coming from.
If they ever did that, you could say goodbye to user generated content.
But if they had the foresight to use the next level DBM, it would have vastly improved the functionality AND expandability of this game AND kept the ability to allow user generated content.
It would be a field day for hackers.

It would have to be publicly viewable and announced to an extent.

The last time they arranged a closed beta they approached members of the community without notifying the rest of us. That brought us AoS and from what I’ve seen they didn’t even listen to the participants.

Nevermind that most games have an application process for betas… So that means handpicked. No one else had this opportunity or knew it was even happening.
