Well, if I remember correctly from the livestreams, it was said that ‘intended’ content won’t be charged as purchased DLCs like mounts and sorcery; I don’t think they meant ALL content was free (apart from cosmetic changes). A new map was never promised as free and thus, they would have a deserved right to request payment for it above the standard game price. Likewise, any big update or expansion (not counting mounts or sorcery which was intended before launch) should also be allowed to have a price tag with it.
After all, Funcom was having financial trouble which rushed the launch of Conan Exiles. So content that was supposed to go with the initial launch, yes, I think its up-standing of them to say that part is free. But content beyond the originally intended launch… that’s another story. I’d be happy to pay for new, enriching content to Conan Exiles. CE was their biggest sale, so keeping it going is in the company’s best interest to make more money, but not if they can’t charge anything for what they produce.
I’d still pay for a new map lol. With the work these guys put in toward their game and the fact that they really listen to their community. It is a refreshing change as i came from Wildcards Ark where those people were straight awful to their community. If anyone deserves to have money shelled out to them for extra content on a survival game it would be Fun.com they have done an outstanding job on making an interesting game and have kept their nose to the grind stone without rest. They certainly have impressed me on many a level. Truely a company that cares about the product they make rather than grabbing fist fulls of money.
Additional expansion Map has to be for free, otherwise people who dont buy the expansion wont be able to attack castles in the expansion area… would be unbalanced.
Fun com has already stated that the Exiled lands map that we all currently play on will not be getting any more land. Which means the only thing they will do is make a new map. (They have even side mentioned it in several of their streams.)
The Exiled Lands will never be getting more land. (I think it was twitter? I could be wrong but i remember reading it and being a little irritable as a friend had hyped me up for new land.) However in several of their streams in regards to mounts and a few other things they have stated that it would be easier to build a new map that those could function on rather than modifying the currently existing map to support said features. (If i remember correctly for this it was two streams ago. Might have been one but it was very recent.) Putting the two of these together however means that the likely hood is they will release a new map in the future. (Unfortunately they are very tight lipped and play things close to the chest so i could be near future or late next year idk.) However they have already cut off their options on what to do with the Exiled lands. (ill look around and see if i can find the links to the posts for you and ill send them to you in a DM if i locate them. It is a little difficult to keep up with everything they post due to all the outlets lol.)
Even if a new map sounds awesome, I’ll settle with some apocalyptic thing that happens in the old map., something that change the pacing and mechanic of the game. That’s what basically Extincion does for Ark.
But you are 100% right, they need to close the gap between big updates if the games is to survive.
They could start with fixing the damn performance on the servers, lagspikes, freezes, stuttering etc etc etc before they even start think about anything else
To be honest, I’d still stick to Conan over Ark even if there were a greater player margin. I love Conan movement and look and attention to detail - Ark is just too ‘bitty’ and sloppy for me
I suspect that FunCom have learned not to put their plans out there. We can collectively blame ourselves for headbanging them when they deviate even slightly from what they say.
We will certainly see more performance tweaks and the usual bug-fixes to the vanilla game. We may see more village-building stuff we currently get from Mods (Pippi, Calamitous, Savage Steel, etc.).
Talk of ‘sorcery’ peeks timidly above the battlements occasionally - mounts even more timidly too.
I suspect that another biome may likely appear too - FunCom, like all other world-build games, ‘borrow’ good ideas from the other companies so let’s see if Sea-biome pops up anytime… lol
FC generally stick to the Conan genre for the main part, so read the books and make some guesses (can you imagine the gorgeousness of seascapes and islands within the Conan engine - and not the lowres junk from other recent platforms?)
I dont think so.
It has been stated that anything on that old EA-Roadmap would be free updates before north went live.
At least some people remember this.
I think they would be better off focusing on those parts which where announced to be free updates and then start with paid content.
It isnt that much anyway anymore:
Sorcery is going to be the next update anyway.
Mounts have been proven to come with obstacles, instead we got maprooms - which is a good trade. Maybe I am alone at that one.
Personally I think that mounts require a map at least three times bigger than the current one.
This is no Life is feudal, where one can be unlucky enough to be forced to run for 3 hours to reach the place where one wants to build a base…
City life must be tricky though…
Eighter a birds eye view needs to be done so we can then add slaves to their beds and stations for them to find their way between those points. (I dont see any hints on that though.)
Or we just get a system similar to pippi in terms of how triggers and spawners work there: We would get small lil craftables like that sign of Jhebbal Sag and then give them a name like “patrol 1”, “patrol 2” and so on. Then we could link our thralls to that. For that to work, thralls need to receive individual names - not for the whole world but rather unique names per owner.
On top of that, another “sign” might be done to force the thralls to stay there during their shift no matter if they are getting attacked or similar.
Rather a suggestion: Player owned thralls might be needed the possibility to be put on a wheel again but with a very much higher stun resistance, for player owned thralls to be able and eighter run away (crafters) or kill the one who tries to steal them. This should be a raid time only thing, just like hurting those thralls.
Then again, being able to stun and rob players may be a good idea too, but please! without cages and prisons. If they wake up again, they should be able to run away or pull their bracelet off.
…
As we already are able to rename pets to our liking (though I think a counting drop down menu might be better? “Male 1”, “Male 2”, “Female 1” and so on) and pippi works just fine with identifiying the correct quests, triggers and spawners… well… I think this might be up next?
Just a muggle guessing though. (Since I’ve never learnt coding I am a muggle to these things.)
But after the missing roadmap contents are done (except for mounts?), they should start with DLC-Content.
But Conan Exiles II? … Please dont.
Though if that is done, a scale like Life is feudal or Atlas might be a fun idea.
I would highly prefer that to be a DLC though.
@Krieg
And Ark is a whole lot older too. 2015 for Ark and 2017 for Conan Exiles…
Thats two years of experience, two years of developing more.
I highly prefer CE of these two since I prefer low tech.
I cant jump in on the forest, as I never played that. (Preferring low tech being a point there again.)
The issue with it being easier to build a new map for mounts instead of trying to do it with the current one has already been stated months ago if I remember it correctly.
So much has happened in this game since Jan 2017.
It would be a shame to go to waste - and I doubt that will happen.
I hope Funcom is now hard at work on the sorcery update as well as polishing existing features and bug/performance improvement. Then in hopefully 2 months we get sorcery and the world artist have been working on a new map that can support mounts (or fixing the current one to support it) then couple months after sorcery and even more polish they release an expansion with new map. They invite streamers like they did in the past to get a lot of eyes on the game, and hopefully this time the game will have mounts, sorcery and the polish to make people stay and we get the steady 50k concurrent players a day
I want to see new maps themed around single biome types. A jungle, a desert, temperate, highland, etc. It would also be great if they were designed for mount travel this time around.
I’d also see more features like a more detailed purge, like was mentioned in early access.
Partner with Epic Games to move beyond 32 bit precision.
Do what Star Citizen has done with CryEngine by upgrading to 64 bit precision. This would be a very big event for both Epic Games and Funcom, where you have the first sharded-mmo capable of rendering an entire planet sized experience. (Current map limit is something like 16 x 16 miles.) Mounts and vessels would then become relevant.
Being able to move between active servers seamlessly, phased-layering, become the first open development ‘mesh-networks’ with all attached servers. Mod switching could be as simple as a an ingame menu and load screen, when phasing into modded game layer…
Some of the best content for CE is currently created by Modders. Expand that. Export Age of Conan world space for starter templates of new biomes.
What we currently see on the map is the limit of UnrealEd, without using a loading screen. Time for Epic Games to upgrade their engine to compete with Lumberyard. Unreal Studios is extraordinary, that level of polish and cross-app compatibility is only going to get better.
I’d love to see this, but there are a lot of other things that need to happen first. Maximizing the population on one server would be priority, for instance, and then the mount and world streaming issue.
