Buddy is planning to get a hosting server and asked me which company…
I said I only know of Gportal and GTXGaming
I’m not sure which of these is better.
Or is there a better one?
(And nope he won’t make his own dedicated server)

GPortal is a bad choice (according to most of the people that use it to play Conan), but I don’t know anything about GTXGaming. I have heard from friends that Host Havoc has fantastic customer service but I have never rented a server from them (or anyone else). Best of luck to you and your friend.

GTX Gaming is good. I know from personal experience it can handle 70 players online with PVP with very little issue, unmodded. Modded I know it can do up to 40-50 without issue, not sure if it can go higher.
G-Portal in my personal experience runs well up to 10 players modded. Around 15-20 unmodded, but only if you wipe every so often (4-6 weeks).
Low.MS does up to 20 players modded without issue. No experience beyond that.
Serverblend does well up to 30 players modded, not much experience beyond that. But out of all the server hosts I have had, the longevity of the server (before needing a wipe) is the longest… as in I have no clue how long. I’ve seen it run modded servers for 2 years +. I’d assume indefinitely.

G-portal is pretty bad, there’s no debate there.. however I think the nature of the information you’ve given regarding some of the others may or may not have been taken a bit out of context so I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, just pointing this little thing out.
My point is, I’m almost certain the gtx server that handled 70 players was NOT of the same tier and price point as idk… that low.ms one you’ve been on with the 20 players 
At least I’m pretty sure you’re not talking about the entry service for either of those since hosts generally offer multiple tiers with different hardware limits and some even allow dedicated hardware usage for the right price even through their regular panel slots.
The “anecdotal” part is usually a good thing in these questions, since you can really only talk about whatever experience you had with them, which may or may not be unique to you - I think where the issue might arise in this particular case is that you’ve most likely experienced these during different times in the life cycle of the game.. and in recent years the game underwent very heavy and rapid redevelopment so you cannot compare stats like that with the version from before 3.0 for example, or even between Ages as each of them added significant resource drains.
Another clue that this might not be the most up to date information is that Serverblend went belly up like at least a year ago as far as I recall.. some drama about the owner suddenly firing everyone without notice and shutting down all sites.. didn’t look into it too much, just heard it in passing. -as such I wouldn’t recommend them
In any case from the 2 presented by OP obviously I would also suggest gtx is the better choice.

At no point did I try to hide that fact. Its why I said ‘in my experience’ several times. I was quite open about it being anecdotal. And I don’t see anything wrong with that. I gave details from different experiences I had so people have an understanding of what they are getting into. Sort of like a review.
That’s sad to hear. They handled tickets incredibly fast and I’ve even had said owner handle some of them as well. It was as far as I can tell a very small operation of only a handful of people. But yeah since they aren’t around anymore, they can’t really be recommended.
Me neither, which is why I specifically pointed out that my post isn’t there to contradict you or argue.. but just to provide some additional context which I felt like should be mentioned
