Why AoC deserves love from Funcom

AoC is amazing as it is. And Godslayer xpac is phenomenal. But not having any true development or content additions for a decade, except for tiny seasonal events, is what has killed things.

We could get millions of new players enjoying AoC if they just PROMOTED THE GAME to the hundreds upon hundreds of millions of computer owners and pc gamers that have no idea what an mmorpg or what AoC is. Unfortunately, the tiny amount of advertising that is done is geared towards bitter, jaded, burnt out veterans of other mmos that still don’t understand how to play an mmorpg correctly.

If you started today and took your time to play and not rush and skip through everything, you would have YEARS of content to keep you busy and that’s even if you play daily. But if you play 10+ hrs a day, every single day, then you will cause your own burn out and have no one to blame but yourself. You see, to get the most from an mmorpg you need to have some self-control.

There are a lot of great players in AoC, but there are also a lot of rabid rushers that only want to do one particular thing and ignore the rest. And that makes the community worse.

But Funcom are the ones to blame. They chose to stop developing AoC to focus on TSW, and then a second TSW, as well as garbage AoC exiles. Exiles would be cool, if AoC never existed. But once you have played AoC, exiles becomes the joke it is.

All we need is for Funcom to:

1 - work on a true expansion for AoC

2 - advertise it and market it to all the potential gamers it should

3 - possibly add some updates to lighting in the game (but if you have a good computer it’s still gorgeous)

Simple stuff. Unfortunately, it’s been well over a decade since they should have done this. We don’t need an AoC 2. We just need development on the amazing game we already have.

I wish they would sell the game to a developer that will actually work on it. So many games exist like AoC, perfect mmorpgs with systems they don’t work on. Minigames, border kingdoms sieges, drunken brawls, and more - all stagnant.

Sucks when the players do more marketing than Funcom. I wish more would give it a shot and more would learn it exists. But at least it is still live and has a team of 2-3 that do some sort of updates.

The main problem now is the community that is ruining it for the rest of the community. They talk trash all day long, talk about exiles as if it is better, and continue making the game look weaker than it is. If you are unhappy, just quit already, It’s not a job. And if you don’t play soooo much sooo often, you might have more fun.

All I know is I played AoC when it first came out for years and then years more on and off, and I still have barely touched Godslayer content and there is plenty of it. How? because I don’t rush, I take my time to enjoy all activities, and I use my imagination to fill in the gaps, instead of just crying and whining. I wish more would do that.

If we aren’t getting true development ever again, then it is up to the community to keep things going and help new players do more. Sieges and Minigames can be super active again, if players weren’t so bitter about them. Just have fun. Enjoy the game. or just quit and don’t waste anyone’s time.

I will always play AoC for as long as it lasts because it is one of the best mmorpgs ever created, alongside WoW, EQ2, Eve, Warhammer Online, City of Heroes and others.

This is exactly the kind of post we need right now, and I’m glad you made it, darkxaosaoc.

Your message lines up perfectly with what many of us have been trying to highlight lately — and I think the fact that multiple players independently make these threads shows something important:

:right_arrow: The community isn’t asking for miracles.
We’re asking for movement, acknowledgement, and momentum.

:large_orange_diamond: Where our two posts align — and why that matters

1. AoC already is a great MMO
You highlight the same core truth: Age of Conan is still one of the strongest MMORPGs ever made, both in systems and atmosphere. It doesn’t need to be reinvented. It needs to be supported.

2. It has years of untouched content
You’re absolutely right — players who take their time have years of story, zones, encounters, and Godslayer content. The tragedy is that this richness is invisible to the wider gaming world because Funcom hasn’t promoted it for a decade.

3. Promotion and communication are the missing pieces
My post focused on QoL and monetization potential.
Yours focuses on advertising and direction.

Both overlap:
:right_arrow: Funcom doesn’t need to build an expansion first.
They need to say something. Anything.

A single roadmap, a single message, a marketing boost — and thousands of players instantly return.

4. A passionate community is doing the marketing for free
And you’re right: it shouldn’t have to be that way.
But the fact that players like you are still here, still writing posts, still encouraging others — that shows what a special community AoC has.

:large_orange_diamond: Where your voice adds something vital

You bring up an important point I didn’t emphasize enough:
:right_arrow: The burnout problem and the “rush meta” killing enjoyment.

MMOs are meant to be lived, not consumed.

AoC is exceptionally good when taken at its intended pace — the voice acting, the world-building, the cultural detail, the hidden stories. Your reminder of that was needed.

:large_orange_diamond: What we’re all saying together

When you combine our posts, the message becomes very clear:

:check_mark: AoC has an existing, paying playerbase

:check_mark: The game still looks beautiful and plays uniquely

:check_mark: There is a goldmine of content most new players never even see

:check_mark: Funcom has all the assets and pipeline needed to add value with low cost

:check_mark: The community wants to help

:check_mark: The MMO genre is in a place where revivals are happening everywhere

:check_mark: AoC is perfectly positioned for one — if Funcom acts

We’re not begging for a miracle expansion (even though it would be amazing).
We’re asking for:

• Communication
• Marketing
• QoL
• Modernization
• Cash shop updates
• A spark of life

And your post strengthens that point beautifully.

:large_orange_diamond: Last words

Thanks for writing this and standing up for AoC.
The more unified and constructive voices we have, the harder it becomes for Funcom to ignore the momentum.

Let’s keep pushing together.
Age of Conan deserves another shot — and the community is proving it every day.

Yes! I have been here aince May 20th, 2008. Wonderful game, got me into reading all the REH books as well as others!

The time and energy the devs spent putting this game together is amazing, management changed, then they tried to leech off of WoW, instead of staying true with how this game was made and advertised.

I 100% would buy new expansions, dlc, or even and Age of Conan 2, with hopefully a better name. Maybe, “Age of Conan: Undiscovered Lands”. Could be AoC 2, but better as a Khitai sized expansion. The story continues after the fall of Cetriss. The adventurer, you the player, through a dream or vision from a new god that has formed from the death of the Grim Grey God, have been show a terrible cataclysmic happening that you need to try and stop. Faithful to King Conan, you bring the news to him, setting off great adventures to new lands undiscovered by civilized mankind. Soooo many places in the world of Hyborian times to go, such as Mu or many countries connected to the border kingdoms. Could even have some quests to sneak into the heart of Nemedia and speak with their king!

I could go on forever on the extend that REH created the universe in Hyborian times!

Let’s get this rolling!! :crossed_swords::crossed_swords::crossed_swords::crossed_swords::fire::fire::fire::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
