Yes, it’s a private server. No, it’s not the server, I checked mod versions on both client and server. Server is updated, client is not. Before anyone says it, yes I know you can unsub/resub. That’s annoying fix and there are so many games that don’t have this issue so it shouldn’t be the solution every time. Why, Funcom, do you not get with the program and just make this happen? Many times I get the mod version mismatch and I just close out and play something else because I’m not dealing with this today. Most likely not tomorrow either.
This isn’t on Funcom. You need to direct your issue at Valve. Steam handles the deployment of mods to users.
I would buy that if it wasn’t for the fact that 1) private servers mods update without prompting 2) if you can fix it with unsub/resub, means the client isn’t looking for updates 3) you have to reset the game anytime you mess with mods. Just look at games like Ark and Space Engineers, for example. Not an issue at all. Prior to entering the game, the client looks for mod updates and downloads any that are available. By that alone I know it’s not a Steam issue.
Private servers either update when the owner/mod tells it too, or the provider does it. Its not automatic. And the client doesn’t need to look for updates, Steam is supposed to search for updates when you launch the game.
I could delete the game directory (NOT uninstall) and still get an update to my mods by resubbing. If I can update mods without having the game present, that tells me it is Steam.
edit- a quick Google search shows this is happening with other games as well. Rimwold, Stellaris, Crusader Kings, American Truck Simulator, Terraria, etc. And all of them have the work around of unsub and resub.
This is a Steam issue.
Yes, servers are prompted to check for updates, but I meant that Steam doesn’t prompt the servers to do so. That is done server-side. That should tell you that it’s not a Steam issue since the server has to do the prompting for updates.
Steam doesn’t handle the deployment of updates, it facilitates them for the developers. Steam is a platform.
When you sub to a mod, as soon as you hit “subscribe” you are basically running an install of that mod. You’re just downloading it. The mods are simply a zip file and subbing to the mod just downloads and unzips it. However, you will not get updates for that mod since there will be nothing to check the version of that mod. Your version of “updating” is simply downloading the mod. So… wrong.
I didn’t say it wasn’t an issue for other games, I said look at two examples where it’s not an issue. They actively check and update mods when updates are available. So no, it is not a steam issue.
The prompt to check for updates to mods is up to the game client. Other games having this issue doesn’t mean it’s a Steam issue, it means they are not coded properly to check for mod updates. Steam even says it in their documentation that how mods are handled is up to the developers.
It’s a game client issue.
It is not. If you launch the server dedicated server without updating mods, it will simply load without checking. It doesn’t care what version they are on when it starts. Its why servers can run different versions of a mod.
I’m sorry but you’re not having any clue how this is actually working here. You don’t even need Conan Exiles installed or even purchased to download mods. You can do it through the Steam GUIless client, which is how most server providers handle it.
TCAdmin panel has functionality to update mods automatically. My Private server checks for mod updates every time it restarts.
