A person on the our private server recently purchased the arcane armaments - with the intent to share the love, craft a set and hand them out like a September Sandy Claws.
However, they were soon hit with a realization they can’t share the love. The person they wanted to give one of the armaments to was hit the message of “entitlement”.
Now in a sense, that’s fine and dandy - if you don’t pay for them, you aren’t entitled, (I don’t agree with that take - but I can see it). But, you’ve already established a presidence with all the prior dlc not locking players out of usage. If that wasn’t a bug, but a feature - then why the change?
But if this isn’t a bug, but an intended feature - I’m not sure how I feel about this. To me this robs a sense of community from players. This is not addressing the other problems people may or may not see with the new bazaar.
@Iswut nice to see you around again m8. It is intentional, it’s not a bug. They announced it long ago that after 3.0 release there would be no more dlc of feature shares and trades anymore, you have to own to use. It’s clearly that our devs reacted to this decision, but I believe this is a tencent program and decision. Keep pushing it, it may change, you never know .
Nice to see you again m8
“Entitlement” has a technical meaning in software development, but I think it was a bad choice to let that word surface in the GUI, where the players will take it differently.
Sharing DLCs wasn’t a bug. Being disallowed to share Bazaar stuff is not a bug, either. They went on record and said that they changed that on purpose.
It’s also a missed opportunity to foster trade between players and give people on PVE-C servers some additional motivation for conflict, other than “because I can”.
Yep - discussed ad nauseum in one of the many bazaar and battle pass threads. I understand why. One person could just buy the item, then flip the finger to the game studio and just mass produce the items.
Since they are after a revenue stream - that would be counterproductive to allow.
I remember when chests were accessible to all unless you locked them, and people would set up “noob” giveaway areas with chests full of junk they did not really want.
I never understood this concept, as I always wanted to do it myself, learn it myself, discover it myself.
What is the point or the fun in getting “fed” items when you have no idea what or how they are acquired.
The noob “do gooders” always irritated me, since they were basically saying. “Let me show you how to play the game.”
It fits, but I’ve already seen complaints about how it sounds and how the game is “trying to make you feel bad” or something along those lines. I’m not saying I feel that way, but I really did see that on the forums
Well frankly I’d rather people learn how to not take offense. But I will agree that maybe the message could be more clear. I mean, I haven’t seen exactly what it says, but if all it says is “You’re not entitled to this item.”, that kind of leaves open the question “why am I not entitled to this item?”
For years on our server we have had welcome center’s coming in from desert entrances now we have to be careful what armor weapons and tools we put in there so people can use them most people on our server are new to the game picture grabbing some thing from a chest and being told you are not entitled bull feces. I can still give away Conan sword from pre order unless they fthat up starting to be disenfranchised
The entitlement issue here, you said is in the programming sense - buts also in the legal sense. And like I said, I get it. Understandably people can be bothered considering if person A purchased an item, and wants to make multiple copies for group - people B, C, etc can’t have them because they didn’t drop $$$ … but… person A did pay and can’t even give it away, even in a glamour sense.
It goes into a lot of legal, but that another topic.
But like I said - the presidence is there, they simply changed it for this. I’m concerned if they’re going to retroactively attack previous dlc.
One of the weird things that happened with 3.0 is I can still share DLC with my family share like before. Family share simply treats shared accounts as if they were the main account. The benefit is you use another Steam ID which allows one to have multiple characters on one server. Useful for server admins as we can use one account to play and one to admin on.
This doesn’t work with Bazaar and Battlepass items. The reason being is these are unlocked by Funcom account, not steam account. And it has no links to Steam’s Family Share. Which isn’t surprising, they’d need to ask Valve on how to tie into that, where as the DLCs simply work through Steam’s Inventory/Library system.
This makes admin builds a touch interesting to do since I can’t use my BP earned stuff unless I use my main account. This is something server admins should consider when doing builds in the future for their servers.
I can hear the devs in the background “Oi! Who said you’re ENTITLED to complain about it?”
Jokes aside though, indeed they could’ve come up with a friendlier message than “You, my dear lowly peasant did not give us enough money to wear this fancy outfit!” (heck, even that would be a better message cuz then we’d get the joke even if it’s painful)
It’s always funny when people bring up the legal stuff, because I’m pretty sure most haven’t actually read the EULA and would be horrified by what they can find in there. For example:
Translation: “You give us real money, and we let you pretend you have stuff in our game, but you don’t really own anything and we dictate what you can do with it”.
A little further below that is this bit:
Translation: “In case we weren’t clear, you don’t really own anything or have any rights to anything except those we choose to let you pretend you have, and we can change the rules or even take your virtual stuff away whenever we want.”
So much for the legal side of the things. Of course, EULAs rank lower than actual laws, but by the time you’re reaching for a lawyer, you’ve already given up any hope of enjoying this game again
They said they wouldn’t, but it’s funny how these things go. For example, you can still share DLC armor, weapons, and decorations, but the sharing of DLC building pieces is gone, thanks to the construction hammer. Funny how things work out, isn’t it?
If I sound a little bitter, it’s probably because I’m trying not to sound as bitter as I really am. I had a fair deal of goodwill towards Funcom, and they did a spectacular job of shіtting all over it.
And, judging from the forums, I’m not the only one feeling like that. Quite a few of long-time supporters of Funcom – some with fairly recognizable names – have been expressing similar sentiments.
I actually re-read that the other day was looking for the part where they can revoke your game license for somebody.
Anyway it also has this I should macro this and paste it on ‘some’ of the outraged bug complaints where the OP is less than civil. I specifically like the nice touch they did with all the caps lock in that EULA… It’s like they yell it at you so you best open your ears!
THE GAME MAY CONTAIN BUGS, ERRORS AND DEFECTS. ACCORDINGLY, THE GAME IS PROVIDED “AS IS,” WITH ALL FAULTS, DEFECTS AND ERRORS, AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
I’ve read it, it’s no different than if you play any mmo. Most don’t take the time to read tos - but it’s all pretty standard for online games. You never own it, it isn’t yours. You’re borrowing it. There was an interesting case years ago when a player tried to sue SquareEnix/Final Fantasy XI over “their” lost character and this was brought up.
And that’s come even more plainly here when it comes to the bazaar items now. You can use it, but can’t share it. So your “ownership” has become very limited in comparison to past “ownership” of dlc.
And like you’ve mentioned with the hammer, building and sharing dlc building items has become even more limited through the new construction - changing the way we “share” our previously “owned” dlc.
But like you’ve mentioned, it’s there in the terms. We don’t own it. And sharing has become even more limited. And it’s okay to be bitter about it, i just hope things change.
That doesn’t even fully cover it…
As we found out today… if their server is having a temporary problem… not even YOU can use it despite being ENTITLED
So it requires constant active internet connection to their servers…
Kinda makes you wonder whether the next step will be stripping you naked on the battlefield if you’re already wearing an armor set and their server dies…
I’ve been there and done this mistake. But never to brag, just because I thought I was helping this way . Now my help is only on specific things, or gift and go, nothing else!
