I am fairly new to the game so I may be wrong, but I think Trebuchets are kind of useless in the single player game and to complete the Journey task to Fire a Trebuchet is a bit pointless. But if you added a Scorpio and change the Journey task to Fire a Trebuchet or a Scorpio would work much better in Single Player.
The Scorpio could fire throwing spears and javelins. To load it go up to it press E to bring up the inventory (like you would for a Thrall) place in spears, the load order is left to right. To use it Hold down E to get the Radial Menu and select Use (Use would be the default position so you can use it quickly and not scrap it by accident) or use the Q button, see your character get behind it.
The Scorpio would be good for single players during Purges.
I like the idea buuuuttttt I think it is almost required to have it’s own ammo at a set amount of damage.
I don’t think the game would very much like my idea to put obsidian javelins in as ammo when the Scorpio it’s self has it’s own base damage. That might be a bit op if I’m launching javelins everywhere that do 60-120+ damage from a good distance.
They are completely useless in single-player, and in PvE. Probably close to useless in PvE-C too. No idea to what degree they’re useful in full-fledged PvP.
From the videos I’ve seen, they’re pretty beastly against structures and thralls(if they don’t move too much). Most of those videos are a year old or older though…
What I think could work for a ballista, give it a slow firing rate, almost as slow as a trebuchet but give it a straight shooting arch instead of the curved one of the trebuchet. It could fill the role of an ultra long range crossbow without needing a whole new set of character animations, and maybe do a knockdown effect on hit to make it harder to spam them on one guy with follow up shots.(can’t target him easily if he’s flat on the ground, but slow him down for other people on your team/thralls)
basically all I do is set up a trebuchet, fire it and then tear it down, it has no practical purpose after completing the journey entry in a single player game, other than maybe just for cosmetic value.
