Please consider adding a curated list of mods that console players can choose to enable for use. Skyrim added this later on and it proved to be an excellent way to have a curated list of popular mods available to the console community.
I believe there are service fees involved and Bethesda pockets are deeper to offer this perk. Although I too want access to the mods
As far as I know, currently the main reason you don’t have mods on consoles is because Funcom simply cannot afford the potential performance overhead needed to run them.
So it’s not a case of “evil Sony and Microsoft licensing problems”, but rather the fact that they keep trying to insist that a PS4 should be able to run this game… and atm that thing can barely even run the basegame… (and I’m being very generous when saying that)
They need to optimize it properly for the PlayStation 5. Then it will run. I don’t have any hopes of seeing mods on console though, but if they ever come, there will be a disclaimer explaining we use them at our own risk.
Technically they could do it even now with a select list of small sized mods
I did suggest quite often that they should maybe start looking at modders as “content creators” as well and make some form of a partner program that could ultimately pave the way and set the standards for these curated mods that could then make it on to consoles as well.
Basically some form of collaboration between Funcom and modders, because currently there is next to none and people are leaving one after another since the fast release schedule they’re following made modding more problematic than ever.
But anyway, until there doesn’t seem to be any receptiveness from Funcoms part, there’s not much we can do
Agreed. I only hope the next game will have this taken into account so all platforms can enjoy the flexibility and creativity
That may touch on DMCA.
I would gladly pay for mods approved by Funcom in a sort of Creation Club style like Fallout and Skyrim.
This 100%
Also. TheKeep? Undertow? forgot what it calls handles Mods for Consoles for Ark Ascend.
There is Open Options now for Hosting. So far, even few nude mods (properly listed) have made it.
I mean mods are client side so, they could put a warning to recommend only next gen consoles run them and be done with it.
Fun fact They actually had plans for that a very long time ago… both to have a monetized mod platform and also a program that would allow them to “buy-out” mods and integrate them into the basegame.
Those plans however seem to have long been abandoned.
No they’re not. All mods for this game are server-enforced, meaning that you need to run the exact same mods in the exact same order as the server in order to join, otherwise the server doesn’t let you connect.
Even the mods that do most of their stuff client-side (like UI mods) need to be present on the server and there’s nothing preventing them from accessing the server side of things. Mods for Conan (and unreal engine in general) are closer to official patches or DLCs than “mods” in the traditional sense, we’re essentially utilizing the source code of the game and making changes and releasing them as patches. That would be a crude description. (Funcom also loads their own DLCs with the exact same method)
If Tencent sees a scoop, we will get it back.
Ah interesting. That complicates things I imagine.
I mean… only in a logistical sense, like for example not being able to enable mods for official servers since that would require agreeing on some mod configuration.
But at least single player / private servers would still be able to use it and private servers should already be way more powerful than a simple console (gportal sadly is the only provider for consoles so… yea… there are some problems there too).
Ideally Sony and Microsoft need to let the consumer modify their consoles they purchased in how they see fit. There’s absolutely no reason why a mod can’t be just dropped into the mod folder and referenced by the modlist file.
That would be cool yea
Microsoft is more open to modding than Sony. Example being Skyrim- Microsoft allows CBBE, TMB, UNP and other custom assets. Sony does not. There’s also the fact that Conan Exiles is an old game. If Funcom wanted mods for console, they would have done it years ago
I’d like to see that theory put to the test. Has anyone got a jailbroken console to test this with that can run Conan (assuming it can run)?
Running a jailbreak console online runs the risk of having your account banned permanently
