Insects seem hard to come by and I think it would make a lot of sense to have them in a compost heap.

Use a pick on plantation and you’ll get many. However, fiber is very important so sickle is more beneficial.
Just place an upgrade on your tools.

If there’s compost in there it’ll auto-generate a maximum of 50 grubs.

I think he meant the handful of insects.
I don’t think it’s needed, since you can get extreme amounts with iron sickles even before unlocking the peasant stuff.
But I don’t know who was that stupid who flagged this for no real reason.

Not sure how your simple request got flagged, but, people.
Many good suggestions have been made. Also, harvesting plant fiber with a sickle will give you a by-product of insects.

I seem to only get insects about 20% of the time when harvesting plant fiber with a sickle. I’m trying to stock up on Unappetizing Fish to make agility food for a thrall. Insects have the highest return rate. Grubs aren’t as high.

Try hitting plants with a pick or hatchet. It should give you insects and no plant fiber. Not a great return, but a way to concentrate on insects alone.

I use grubs for fishing because they are so easy to passively generate with composters. Just set up one or two compost bins for each fishing trap, and you will have 100 grubs per trap any time you want to re-bait your traps. In my experience, once you have a decent production line going (say, 10 composters and 5 fish traps) you will have more Agility food than you will ever need.

Yeah I started off doing that and it seemed like I got fewer insects with other tools, but maybe that was just in my head. Also seemed wasteful if I could swing and also get fiber.
By the way, did you play EQ on Thornblade?
I played EQ many years ago, but do not remember the server.
