Hi! Ever since I upgraded to Windows 11 24H2, I have been experiencing game freezes, and it is not just the game, but the whole computer is involved. Sometimes after about six minutes, everything starts back up again, but not always. I do not always find system reports to indicate what is happening, but some times I get:
Crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\LiveKernelReports\WATCHDOG-20250711-1603.dmp (Kernel memory dump) Bugcheck code: 0x141(0xFFFFBE0790804010, 0xFFFFF80766EEA730, 0x0, 0xFFFFBE0758021080) Bugcheck name: VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED Driver or module in which error occurred: dxgkrnl.sys (dxgkrnl!TdrCollectDbgInfoStage1+0xD29) File path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys Description: DirectX Graphics Kernel Product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company: Microsoft Corporation Bug check description: This indicates that one of the display engines failed to respond in timely fashion. Analysis: This is a video related crash. A DirectX driver was identified on the stack. Since there is no other responsible driver detected, it is suggested that you look for an updated driver for your graphics hardware. It’s also possible that your graphics hardware was non-functional or overheated.
I had experienced no problems on Windows 11 21H2, 22H2 or 23H2, and in fact installed a second boot drive in my system with 21H2 installed on it from which I am currently playing Age of Conan.
My System:
Processor AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor (3.70 GHz)
Installed RAM 64.0 GB
Mainboard ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING II
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
The graphics card is recent. I had an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 before, and had the exact same issue. I have tried different drivers from the most recent to those many people consider the most stable, to no avail. The only way I have been able to play Age of Conan for extended periods of time with no freezing is to boot into 21H2.
