Know what would make that truly epic?
Make those particularly valuable thralls … unique, one of a kind. Irreplaceable.
Then maybe some folks would be more inclined to stick around their glam bases and defend what’s valuable to them.
(Should have been that way since they were first introduced).
I‘m a chef too, that’s exactly what i thought!
But their reasoning is strange anyways.
Now that i had time to think about all this btw, they said crafters attached to a bench will provide their bonuses no matter what they do.
Their new behavior is just an animation to some degree, they will really move inside the base but attached to benches a shieldwright will still provide his bonuses to armor.
BUT here are my thoughts:
Crafters are items at the moment, if we attach them to a bench we already get an animation. Why didn’t they simply expand on the already existing animations?
Because clothing?
… The easy solution for that could be to simply add a separate small inventory to the bench like on the mannequins.
We could change their appearance, would have the expanded animations… but game play wise nothing would change.
And just in case someone wanted to say “emotes”… thralls can’t use at least half the existing ones and i doubt people would place their crafters outside a bench just to do an emote.
Fighters and dancers can do emotes while guarding.
While I broadly agree with what you’re saying, I can also say I have in the past placed many crafters outside benches just to do emotes. A mod I’ve used many times is ‘Emotes for Thralls’ (which used to be ‘Emotes for crafters’), and includes multiple placeables that would allow you to set a crafter in a position and lock them into an emote (basically little placeable ‘pebbles’ that would be hidden within the body of the thrall once placed that acted as a non-functional ‘bench’ for them to be placed at, that set the emote they would perform). I tended to use this approach for ‘spare’ crafters, rather than storing them in boxes (plus it acted as a ‘retirement’ for lower tier crafters once I got better replacements).
Ok that’s interesting, maybe i didn’t think it a 100% though…
Maybe if they would allow us to interact with the placeholder animation and order it to do an emote of choice, instead of the routines they will do?
However, having rate thralls placed in the world is a big deal for our fellow PvP players.
If it’s just an item your opponents will steal it, but you could steal it back eventually.
Now they just get killed.
But of course there’s another important thing: thrall limit.
Absolutely. And I certainly wasn’t intending to minimise that side of it, more just adding context to what you were saying. The potential impact on PVP is looking like a big issue - and several PVPers whose opinions I trust have made clear how disastrous they think it could be (and one has pointed out how much fun he expects to have ).
I’m finding this update a difficult one - as I’ve said elsewhere, this is the first update since the Ages started that has added anything that interests me personally (I’d still like bug fixes, and implementation obviously worries me - but we’ve got to wait till the update arrives to know for sure how those elements go). So, on one level, I’m really pleased with what has been announced - it’s providing more elements within the base game that directly suit me. But I’m also concerned - just because I like something doesn’t mean that it won’t also be detrimental to a lot of other players’ expeiences. The game was sold as a sandbox with multiple game modes and that has to remain the case. (To be honest, I consider that to be also the basis for many of the game’s biggest failings - Funcom set themselves up with such a complex tightrope to walk and it may simply be impossible truly balance the needs of all modes without separating development.) I may be getting things I like, but it looks like it may be very damaging to PVP (and perhaps consoles, depending on how performance goes) - this makes me uncomfortable. I do not want others to lose their enjoyment of the game, but at the same time I also do not want to lose mine. Singleplayer and PVE have had a lot taken from us over the years in the name of making PVP work - often without achieving that goal - and that is a part of why I get so annoyed by the torrent of ‘Funcom ignores PVP’ comments that inevitably accompanied each and every one of those updates, no matter how much we were losing. But the reality is that, at present, it does look like PVP is not only not the focus, but doesn’t seem to be taken into account much at all, and that is a problem too.
I can see myself, if this update works reasonably well, being interested in playing considerably more than I have for the past year - maybe even making purchases from the bazaar (if the prices being charged for items I like are at a level I am prepared to pay) - but I can also see potential for PVP to wither and die even more than it has been (hacker problem especially), and that is also not an acceptable end point.
It was an old exploit that was supposedly fixed, but after they announced the fix, someone was still doing it on the PvE server I played on. I lost a good number of thralls outside my base because of this and the logs showed that they were killed by arena champion still.
Before bringing more changes to the game like this update, everyone agrees that some bugs need to be prioritized.
Actually, I have a smelter in mine to melt down gold coins into bars. This will likely be changed… or I may just get rid of my purge base altogether as I haven’t used it in some time. I think I prefer to help my friend do his and share in the spoils. His is set up in the volcano where it’s a bit easier to do.
Another nail in the coffin of PvP.
The bats made pillar basses unusable. the meta is rolling like sonic. trying to finish 1 person for 1 hour and on top of all other pvp problems like hackers and undermeshers.
Now crafting thralls can be killed and are not items anymore? xD. i understand that correctly?.
Hey i have some suggestions! make them be able to be resurrected with magick or make the “thrall pot” give an AOE buff to thralls so they don’t die as easily in your base!
Raiding is already too easy too many raiding methods and very little means of defense. isn’t your base supposed to be your safe space? what about home field advantage? XD.
they now can be killed with zath orb exploit and many others good, my live settlement will be a prison all crafter will need to be in cages for not getting killed by griefers, and im playing in a pve server !
