Age of War, is it a 3-hour brainstorm?

Age of Sorcery set the bar high for future seasons.
It was a season with really good features. The introduction and establishment of sorcery, bounty hunting, then that… was it called Karuk? With golems, the solar eclipse, and a new mini-dungeon that was actually quite fun.

Now, Age of War… yay, the Stygians have invaded and are plundering… but where are they?! I don’t see any camps, special caravans, or any signs that Stygian invaders have been at work.
Instead, there’s a clan update with banners, a change to the combat system that nobody wanted, and a new power balance between thralls, with Darfari now being tough cookies.
With Chapter 2 now, the Purge has been revamped. Yes, it only half works and doesn’t really justify the rewards. There are no more T4 craftsmen in the Purge, only fighters or bearers in the cages, and a one-eyed merchant.
The change to move Legendary chests into dungeons is good; it at least makes you visit them more often.

What can we expect with Chapter 3?
My expectations remain low. There are rumors of an Open World PvE Raid (Stygians seem to be building something in the savannah, but no one is ever present), but I doubt this will greatly excite players. I doubt that the siege possibilities offered by Conan Exiles will be fully realized.

All in all, exactly what I expected when Age of War was announced has come true. Too little new content, too little to permanently excite players for the features being introduced.

Instead, more investment was made in the Bazaar and less in the Battle Pass. Apart from some nice armor sets, there wasn’t much that I was really excited about. I had high expectations for the Chakrams, but… well, those things just can’t compare to the claws we got in Age of Sorcery ^^

These are my thoughts on the current season so far. Funcom might as well take it as feedback :stuck_out_tongue:

I have similar thoughts.

I think Age of Sorcery could have been one of the best updates ever for CE had they simply enabled some of the combat sorcery that they originally brainstormed (per their own vid)… It brought back a lot of players who I had previously played with. They were excited by the promise of sorcery but not impressed with what they got (and quickly quit again – about 6 folks that I know)… That aside I agree it had some interesting/fun changes.

Age of War… It sounded so awesome and fitting for a Conan setting when first announced but the initial chapter was very weak - should never have been released with the lack of content that it had. I’ll be honest I haven’t tried the current chapter yet (just been resetting my base). I initially had visions of my actual base having to fight off epic sieges but seems like the new purge is very temperamental to the point that they would have difficulty pathing to a normal PVP base and instead we have to go find nice level ground and create a new/simple structure just for it to work. Haven’t had the energy yet to go out and build such a “siege base”. Will eventually try it out and who knows maybe I’ll think it is awesome.

Hoping for the best for the next updates.

I will say that I am liking the new loot  Kind of miss the easy steel from Sep. but it makes sense.

This one is actually curious if that is a bug.
From what this one sees, comparing side by side, the “chakrams” (they aren’t chakrams, they are wind and fire wheels) are just weaker and heavier versions of the talons.

Does anyone have the Vendyhan set to compare the khatars there to these other two?

I have to agree here. When the Age of War was announced, where Stygians were invading, it rendered pictures of Stygians attacking Dafari camps or raiding Nord villages. But it only has combat and Purge updates. Where’s the “war” in the Age of War?

Everything still feels very static. Stationary. No roaming or events. :frowning:

Events were bug infested and got cancelled.
They had been the sorcery events anyway.

One thing this one does like is the ambushes when carrying hernia inducing treasure.

This one would love if ambushes were just a thing and one could get jumped by roving Darfari or Cimmerian, ect, based on region.

That’s the key word there… war “events” and “roaming” parties are missing from the Age of War.

And if we’re on the subject of what else could be done, I’d like to see “bounties” be added to the game. What I mean are groups of bounty hunters coming after you in the world. Say you’ve been killing some Darfari camps, looting their settlements, pillaging their chests, and capturing their people for your own “colony.” They would be sending teams to hunt you down. The more of a threat you’ve been to their people, the larger and more experienced the teams are sent after you (also commensurate to your player level). Make ‘pillaging’ groups cost something (risk = reward).

Having a negative faction rating system would be grand.

Enslave too many of the comparatively amiable people of Sepermeru and suddenly Relic Hunter Slavers knock on your head and door regularly.

I do.

They are poop. I use them to reskin the acidic claws that sit outside of the Den.

Condolences, at least they look pretty?

Kinda. I wish the blue ribbon could be dyed. If I’m totally honest I got the set for the elephant skin and that didn’t disappoint.

That said I’m really enjoying the fistblades that are free from Warmaker’s when they drop.

Actually the devs DID add some tracks of a camp near the ruins of al-Merayah as a foreshadowing. The stuff there also changed between the chapters to give an impression of developing situation.

And the lore reason why you don’t see their soldiers anywhere is because they come from beyond the curse wall.

Having a dynamic faction reputation system would be cool though. You could befriend some factions and prey on the others.

ps. Im one of those people who had played ever since early access, but stopped playing out of boredom for several years. Age of sorcery brought me back, because for the first time the game put the sorcery in “Sword and Sorcery”. And allowed us to be sorcerers. Thats what Ive been playing since. Others can play musclebound barbarians, give me a corrupted sorcerer instead!
