It would be a fun thing to do, but it’s impossible on solo (aside from cheesing it by bypassing everything and just climbing up, bashing a hole in it near the boss room and jumping in). If we could turn down the spawn rate there in admin control, you could take some thralls, seige the place and have an enjoyable experience. As it is, it is completely pointless for solo players
There should be a limit to the number of spawns. Not that it is hard to do.
Either a total limit or a timer for waves to show up which can be delayed by wave, ie, each wave comes after a longer wait than the previous, reflecting a depleting reserve pool.
As it is, it is akin to enemies not being harder to beat, but just having a bigger HP. It is not challenging, it is boring.
Also, there should be more interesting things to loot there if we have to go through all that work. PvP has the added benefit of winning “something intangible”, PvP cred, and whatever you crack from the base. Al Meh raya is Meh because the rewards it gives beyond “completing it”, are way less than simply keeping a purge at a lower level and “passive completing it”.
Al Meraya should be something more like a “end boss” for the purge, rather than be something that demands more work to reward a lesser booty. No one wants to do more work for a small booty “amirite” ?
I’m still hoping for a way to not have it at all in my single player game. I raided it plenty last Chapter. Not planning on visiting it again.
But you’ve just described the overwhelming majority of the PvP Raid experience (which Al Merayah is based on) in this game.
That aside, this one does agree that the Stygian clown car can be a bit much.
A toggle on the admin side would be very nice.
Up to and including it’s absence.
Sure, but it would be fun to play out something that feels like an actual siege, instead of a gamey pvp siege. Thats why i was suggesting an admin control or something, so you can tune it how you want to do it. If you prefer to have to do it as you were saying, or if you want to feel like you’re actually defeating the defenders of this fortress and looting it.
As it is, even with 2 max level thralls and my own character max level, they spawn at the same rate i take them out. I can survive it, but can’t make any progress doing a realistic style siege. It’s just continual wiping out of defenders and i feel like im in a dynasty warriors battle just swinging a sword in a swarm of trash enemies, but i can never get anywhere. I would prefer fewer, stronger, and slower respawning enemies but would settle for an admin slider to reduce the respawn timer or turn it off completely until i leave the zone and load back in/the area resets.
This game isn’t equipped to do anything resembling an actual siege.
Especially a pre modern one.
Encircling and depriving of resources is not a thing that can be done. One cannot starve out a foe, there is no surrender mechanism (altho the purge comes closer, as the attackers just give up if you fortify too well). Disease is no where to be seen and the enemy has no supply lines to cut. You can’t even take control of the holdings of a defeated enemy. It doesn’t have any lasting impact on the footprint of the enemy as it all comes back soon there after.
Al Merayah is a raid.
Pure and simple, it’s a resource raid.
As players, we take the role of raiders or reavers (if we come to kill rather than loot) who swoop in to sieze gold and other goods. The idea in game storyline being that all the loot there is the ill gotten gains from Stygians previously pillaging other person’s coffers. But in game reasoning aside, the actual purpose of the exercise is to murder and steal, not sieze control.
Lorewise, the “cheesy” way fits extremely well with Conan’s activities as a thief, climbing and sneaking in to yoink what he wants and perhaps opportunistically unaliving some folks on the way.
But bringing it back to the root.
This game isn’t capable of simulating a realistic siege.
Fortress design principles that would be sound for the vast majority of the pre modern world are laughably ineffective against the mechanics of the game. Likewise, most of what we see as functionality designed PvP bases would be bad jokes and a guaranteed way to be easily defeated if used in the real world.
Don’t get this one wrong, it would be grand if there were more logistic components to warfare in game. But that isn’t the game as it stands and it isn’t the direction it’s going in. The raid on Al Merayah is extremely gamey. But then again so is having bears and tigers that don’t rip regular foes to shreds with barely a thought, drinking sewer water with impunity while meat fresh from a healthy kill is poisonous, and eating hot wings is more effective at protecting from frostbite than a fur over coat. Let’s not even talk about the combat or encumberance.
While this one does agree in principle and would have loved to see fundamental changes to the Raid experience, it may not be possible with the chassis we are working with.
Fewer, Finite, and Stronger enemies would seem a good option.
Until someone rolls up with a larger clan.
How strong should the rank and file of the Stygian military be? Make them too strong and we run afoul of the lore of the setting without addressing the core issues that raids of destructible structures are exceptionally gamey. Then there is the other issue. Reducing the clown car adversely impacts the resources available from pillaging Al Merayah. When this one mentioned some come for murder, there is both the loot drop from the individual enemies as well as the resources to harvest from them. This game has many uses for hide, human flesh, and what religious zealots can extract from their victims.
The clown car of trash mobs is one of the resources in the fortress.
Again, this one does agree with you in principle and is fully in support of a slider for respawn rate there at least. However, realistically, the fundamental aren’t likely to change.
One side thought this one had, rather than having the infinite spawn tied to what gate had been breached, perhaps of the largely hollow buildings within each layer of the fortress could be designated as a form of “barracks” and when all the barracks in a ring are destroyed the spawning ceases?
That may be possible within the coding framework.
Please don’t mix solo with thralls companion. If you go with thralls you are no solo!!!
If you go solo you can do whatever you wish, just fix attributes of a warrior not a gatherer . With Thag scythe they are all 2 shot and you kill them like flies. The jars are very light now and you can carry dragon powder with you to fix explosive jars in the way.
The first gate can go down with invisibility, even the second one if you wish to avoid too many fights. Not to mention that you can avoid the first 2 gates and that’s no cheating, it’s standard game mechanic. Other than that, the warriors around the external perimeter now don’t spawn like the first days, they are reduced a lot.
I’m not asking that they change the game, so if you enjoy it the way it is you can do that. I just want a simple slider admin option to tune it so that its enjoyable for people like me, instead of something we got excited for only to just avoid entirely.
By solo i mean, not online with other players (but im not trying to argue or get into semantics, call whatever “playing without other players” you want…whatever you want to label that, it’s clearly not what the design is geared towards).
Its not that the enemies are hard, they go down extremely fast, but then they respawn just as fast and im constantly surrounding by a flood of trash enemies which i just find absurd. Personally i just think it would be more fun to use seige equipment to smash down the gate, and move in, whittling down the enemy forces, break into the castle and fight my way to the boss. As it is, currently theres no need for such a large building with all the thralls/rooms/etc. as the only reasonable way ive found is to just climb to the right spot and smash a hole to jump down into. To me this just isnt fun at all (but if you enjoy it im not critiquing you, enjoy what you like).
Oh for private servers! Oh yes i totally agree with this, private server Admins must have more tools to run their server as they wish . You got my fully support on this.
