If you are solo and need to break away from a dangerous combat, then use a shield. Time a block then sprint away. Also, if you engage many opponents, then you should die!
I am in full support of the new dodge. Something had to be done with ease to disengage combat. Once you engage an enemy, it should not be so easy to run.
o.O I fail to see the problem here. It’s a survival game. Any other game where you are overwhelmed by an overwhelming force, nobody would bat an eye that you died.
For those of you who are having trouble with the new dodge, put 20 points in Agility. If you have less than that, then you need to dodge by sprinting, block the attack, or wear enough armor to tank the hit.
If you want to wear heavier armor and still be able to dodge, then you will need 30 or even 40 in Agility. At that point you’re playing a defensive based character.
For those of you who say the nerf is preventing disengaging from combat, sit back down. That’s not what it does, as I frequently use sprinting to avoid attacks with the new system. If I can side step an attack by walking or running, then getting out of combat is no more harder than before. So come up with a better argument.
I have only recently stated why this is not a working solution in a seperate thread discussing this issue. Here is what I said.
People always say ‘just use a Shield’, when they know full well that it is not a solution. And this is coming from someone who uses the War Axe & Shield combination as their default loadout. The shield only guards against the players front, not their back, and robs us of our movement while it is raised. Meaning that if we are facing large groups of say 10+ enemies, it is inneffective. This is further hampered by a lack of knockback and fast enemy recovery after striking the shield.
Allow me to put forth my counter proposal. If you are having difficulty catching runners, use a throwing axe or equip some claws or if you have a clanmate supporting as an Archer fire upon him. You have numerous options available to you.
@Ignasis I have a genuine question. While it is possible that I have misunderstood the feedback, my understanding of it at the time was that Funcom would eventually add in an Admin Panel option allowing players to switch back to the classic dodge system at a later date.
Was this the case, and if so will it still be coming at a later date?
Wich is kinda weird, when the new roll is totally dogbip. Explanation was that people should use heavy armor more, but now then? Heavy is the only u use. Before u used 3light 2medium wich u remve without any notifications, u also used medium more wich is totally gone now, and heavy u used to be a bit tankier. Now it’s all in for heavy.
if only some piece of wood was invented to shield you from blows.
Perhaps I am a rarity here but I hate the dodge roll entirely, I would much rather universal block/parry/ stun mechanics.
Rolling around with a spear was laughable, sure it was fun to play and there was a learning curve, but if the game was advertised me as rolling around on the floor in dafari armour with a spear I would have never bought it.
Now people actually use all kinds of weapons, daggers, great axes, maces, swords, horse spears, ony thing that feels a bit out of whack is the thrall damage (while I still love the thralls people are kind of right with the disconnect of the thralls doing the heavy lifting entirely).
Depends. Helplessly dying because there is no possible move is (imo) wrong game design. And saying that its a survival game is merely an excuse to justfity that. Its a survival game where you barely need to survive against 80% of the other aspects (sandstorm, thirst, wildlife, etc) why would this single aspect be brutally hard when the entire game is easy? Makes 0 sense to me and sounds like a sloppy excuse.
And if I had it my way, they wouldn’t be game features that you “barely need to survive.” Which is why SandstormEX exists as a mod. I have a long list of todos of mod projects to work on that involve making the game more challenging.
I really don’t enjoy easy gameplay that offers little challenge, not sure why that’s considered a “sloppy excuse.” The existing Dodge system isn’t “brutally hard” either, not in my opinion.
I play mostly solo or with one other person, and I do just fine with the new dodge roll, so I still don’t see it a problem for solo players other than its no longer on easy mode any longer, which to me is not a problem, its a desired state I want to be in. Nor is it brutally hard. Its more difficult, it certainly isn’t brutally hard unless your desired goal is to solo large mobs of enemies solo or take on clans solo which I feel is unrealistic and absurd anyhow.
Sonic the hedgehog roll with spear poke and roll poke and roll everywhere is not a game I’m interested in.
We do believe this could be a misunderstanding as not only we don’t recall having proposed that, but also it would be technically impossible to have both systems coexisting at the same time without critical code rewrites that would allow for such a thing.
Thanks a heap for clearing that up Ignasis. While it may not have been the answer I was hoping for, at least now I have closure. Im going to make the most of what I already have, and get on with playing the game I love.
To clarify even further, we’d like to say that it is not out of the table to tune-up this or other features in the future. But at the moment, it is not in our plans or discussions to modify the dodge roll.
So u mean if u are a much more skillfull player than this let’s say 4-5 players u should have 0 chance to survive? That is just BS for me. If u dont are able a guy 5v1 its your problem not his.
U probably havent met groups good enough back in the days to realise it was hard to survive that situation.
There is a reason that in all action movies the hero takes on 1 fighter at a time, even when surrounded, because if all 5 attacked at once, then the hero would not be a hero. In CE, smart clans go all in at once, and not try to hero fight the solo. The old roll around was way to easy to avoid being surrounded. to the point where it was whack a mole fighting on all sides.
Yeah I’d say if a highly skilled player tries to take on 5 guys at once he should get his face pounded because a 5:1 fight is not a realistic fight in the first place. Easy mode roll out of combat lolol is not a fun experience except for the clown doing the circus rolls.
Realistic? Let’s not talk realistic stuff please, just gonna laugh at that stuff. And If that guy is more experienced than the 5 guys and know how to counter them ofc he should have a chance lol. You probably one of those 5 guys the way you speaking.
