Been wanting to come back to this game for quite some time but the nerf to the dodging has made the game no fun to play. I’m a PvE player who likes to play on my own private server with friends. I can’t seem to find any mods that completely fix this and I can’t find any updates from Funcom that address this either. Is there no hope for the old dodge roll being brought back?
i don’t think the old roll is coming back, and that would be better, really the new dodge isn’t that bad, but if you can’t stand it, i guess you’ll keep wanting…
give it another chance, at this point i don’t even miss the easiness of the old roll…
There is NO dodge roll in the game anymore there is only FAT ROLL and that DESTROYED THE GAME.
This is the only game in the world that make you FAT ROLL when you have nothing in your inventory and you are all naked with a pair of daggers, WHY ?
It’s insanely slow even with max agility and wearing light armor. Barely does anything to disengage from combat or even mitigate damage. It makes combat feel like a chore rather than the main point of the game. It feels like funcom just wants to nerf the player character into uselessness and focus on making pet/thrall combat the main portion of the game.
When almost every encounter consists of letting a thrall tank an enemy while I just sit on the sidelines and peck away at the enemy the game has become unbelievably stale.
Did about a 50-100 hour play through with the new dodge roll and I gotta say it’s nothing but terrible.
It has nerfed the player character to the point I am required to rely on pets/thralls in combat now. It’s not fun.
I’ll counter point and say the game was pretty ruined for me with sonic the hedgehog roll and the only weapons being used were spear, with spear poke, roll, spear poke, roll being the only thing anyone ever did.
I have no problem in combat with the new roll, and the new roll has been in place for a while now and took a couple days to get used to but afterward was fine.
I don’t like easy-mode in games, and the old roll was as easy-mode as it got.

To small differenses between light/medium/heavy armors.
Funcom wanted to make a game where u used all armor types. Good job with that now when is no point using anyting else than heavy.
This is because dodge is not to escape combat, just evade blows.
No point in trying to evade an attack when your dodge still puts you in whatever your fighting’s range and they continue their combo, making the dodge roll effectively useless in this sense too.
I know this is the worst case, but I’ve been in that fight.
Try to evade blows with that kind of lagg. I can tell you: you won’t be able to do so.
And no, this is not DDOS. It’s the p1ss performance of the game on official servers.
There is a reason official servers are ping locked, the game doesn’t play well with lag.
This is not a high latency issue. It is a performance issue.
The server engine can’t handle 10+ user inputs per second per user when 10+ people are fighting in front of a big base. This results in low SFPS and therefore slow request handling.
You can see this as if the players are performing DDOS just by playing the game.
They did not intend for the dodge button to disengage in combat, which is why they changed the roll. The new dodge roll, is just that dodge and counter attack. If you want to disengage, then you will have to run away and/or avoid combat. Once engaged, the idea is to fight, not roll away heal to max, then try again.
I for one, am getting better with the dodge in combat every time i use it. I have been able to start learning attack animations of NPC and players, and am now timing my roll to minimize damage taken, then counter attack.

They changed their mind after seeing how ridiculously easy it was in its then-current state.
That could be a way of saying not getting stuck absorbing damage.
Where is that guy (Oscar)? For me while listening to him it actually sounded a bit more like he played the game than now, when it’s alot of guessing what they think is the best and so on.
The problem with that, as I have explained previously is this. For Singleplayers and online Solo players it is absolutely vital to be able to quickly breakaway from combat and buy enough time to quickly consume a healing item and regroup before jumping back into the fray. Especially when facing large groups of 6-7, or even up to 12 strong opponents such as Skeletons or Lost Tribe, or more agile opponents such as Wights, Corrupted Wolves, the White Tiger and Albino Bat. We dont have clans to watch our backs for us. Our only defence against vastly superior opponents and large groups is to out manouver them, and if necessary, beat a hasty retreat. This change has resulted in enemies having more time to land free blows on us before we can complete our dodge animation, which against opponents such as those lited above, is often fatal.
Yes, mob groups can be over bearing when 5+. But i have found it wise to not go full berserk, and encounter enemies in smaller, more controlled ways. The only real areas of concern are the 3 main cities tbh. Mounds, Asagarth, and Set City can group up quickly, but i have found i can bait the groups into more tolerable and beatable mini groups of 3 or 4. If one is getting surrounded by more than that, they need to not be so aggressive.
