AoW chptr 3 Q&A out with design spoilers for crafters in the future

I don’t think thralls in a box goes away. It doesn’t make any sense with the way the wheel of pain functions. I would think it is more likely that you place the crafter in the world for dressing, etc., and then on the bench. I did hear Dennis say something about workers wandering the base. being followers, and other things.

But, would the workers then impact the thrall limit? If they are not in a station, yes. In a station, they should not.

Me? Always because I can’t stay on one topic longer than 5 minutes anyways HOWEVER the rest of the community also has a say in this and @Dark_Overlord is right and it was sort of the reason I made the post (even though I moved on to the next squirrel). This was to just throw it out to the forum community and give FC feedback on these little bombshells being dropped.

i asked wak the same question, and he said in the case of barkeep they will eat one slot from your pool of thralls , even if they are on the bench or just following, so yes expect that they will hit your thrall limit

False again. I’m not a PvP player. If you read the books then you know Derketo isn’t the Goddess of humping people to death and Mitra would be appalled at the concept of murdering people for their essence. The Gods of the Exiled lands are twisted mockeries of their book counterparts. Funcom has said as much in multiple Q&As and live streams. Just because they got the licensing to use the names doesn’t mean they automatically got it all “Right”.

Come back when you have actually read the books. You strike me as someone who thinks RPing as a Crusader is an accurate portrayal of a Mintran.

None of what you have mentioned makes your point. In fact it breaks it wide open. Were in “Rad Nails” did a Derketa priestess gouge out a man’s eyes as he climaxed? Were in did they make a direct connection to being Derketo? The debate over the Derketo/Derketa situation is a heated one but as written in the canon material they are different Gods. Publishings after 1933 isn’t canon lore btw. That seems to be the biggest source of your confusion. Howard never approved of the handling over of his estate to (I believe) the publishing company. The current foundation controls the licensing but not what is or isn’t canon. Only the original books are Canon.

Lets not forget to address the elephant in the room. Funcom has stated on multiple Q&As and on live stream to that the lore of Conan Exiles is “Their take” on Howard’s world of Conan. Any argument about the validity of lore goes out the window in face of Funcom outright telling us it’s “their take” on it.

You can cry “Lie” all you want, it wont make you right. You can stick your head in the sand if you want but that is the truth of it.

I am versed on the lore of Conan the Cimmerian, and Valusian lore as well, and I cant really see anything in there substantiating the claims of those saying people are complaining out of not knowing the lore.

Furthermore, -game mechanics- are one thing, and that has nothing to do with lore, unless you think in “Conan Lore” you have “key presses” or “attributes”, or “map markers”.

But for the actual questions, it is possible, and mods have done it, not only mine, to allow for a “Persistent humanoid NPC” (the entity that is a standing thrall, like a fighter or archer) to replace the Mesh component that represents the artisan thrall in a crafting station. I did it my mod because I wanted to take a thrall with me that would operate a campfire in our camp, long ago even, and I have changed in a mod I discontinued and merged its code with another one, in which I had Taskmasters to walk around the Wheel of Pain as a standing thrall retaining the stats on the Wheel.

None of that has anything to do with lore or no lore. Those are simple game mechanics. Immersive ? Maybe. But that does only change the level of “suspension of disbelief” in terms of immersion, not any lore aspect whatsoever. For the purposes of “lore”, an item, simple mesh component or a fully independent Actor for a Artisan Thrall changes nothing. The different is only that you can see them doing things, going around.

It would be like saying instead of the narration you see the things BG3 narrator speak make it “more D&D lore adequate”. IT just make it more immersive, if that.

I didn’t shift anything. That was this whole conversation. Now you’re just trying to save face because you know you’re wrong. Enjoy having your head in the sand.

Also bringing how he died into a discussion over lore as if it will make you right is just wrong. Be better.

I am fully aware that the bartender uses a slot. I also see the bartender is not a traditional craftsman, due both to how he is obtained, and that he is chatty.

When it comes to crafter thralls, having them added to the follower total makes no sense. Questions have to be answered.

If we will not be able to knock out thralls in the wild (as noted earlier), then…
1] What is the purpose of the taskmaster? The wheel? Gibbet?
2] Will the named thralls be removed from locations in the world? If not, why not? They serve no purpose.
3] The emphasis on the three skills of the blacksmith, carpenter, priest, etc., makes it ridiculously difficult to get them without an overhaul of the frequency in purges. As it is, level 10 purges yield four thralls, Isscar, and a bartender.
4] What happens to all the new items related to the capturing of thralls? I mean the Stygian bindings, Szeth’s truncheon, and the one from the Midnight Grove? They will serve no purpose. What happens to them?

If the only way to get thralls is by way of the purge or bar, then…
1] How exactly will the additional server load be handled from everyone running purges to find that Shieldwright?
2] Are we supposed to believe that Fia just walks into our bar for a drink after she and every Nordheimer tries to kills us on sight? I mean, Dalinsia walked in, but she could not be hired. At least she hasn’t torn the place up yet.

If, as noted earlier, thralls will not be an item you can carry around, then there is only one question.
What happens to thralls already in storage?
I tend to give players thralls when I can. We have a large inventory. We have thralls that are not available anymore, such as the old look Dalinsia, Fia, and Senk, and ones that just aren’t there anymore like the Captain. We also keep an extra armorer on the bench to switch between lighter and higher HP armor. How do we do that?

The final question, based on all of the above.
Do the crafters, when placed on the bench, count towards the total followers?
If so, then…
1] STOP MAKING NEW BENCHES.
2] There are roughly 10 benches that require thralls for better operation. However, in order ro take advantage of the Garrison and Campaign armor bench, you need an improved to make non epic armor for illusions, unless that’s changed. I haven’t checked to be honest. You can get by with 5 crafters for those benches by moving them around. It makes it hard to do two things at once. And, there is the issue of the specialized skill crafter. But why use a crafter? Resource usage and better stats on crafted items. Now, since the old purges aren’t around anymore, it’s really not an issue of defense. Unless, of course, you decide to cave to the people who want the old purges back. At that point, defending an outpost does become a problem.

I know, I know. Maybe toxic players will stop making huge bases everywhere. Fat chance of that. We have a clan on our server that’s built 8 enormous structures all over, and there are thralls only at the main base.

I don’t remember anyone saying the WoP wouldn’t work. This was just that thralls will no longer be an item to pick up and carry.

I suspect the WoP’s will work similarly to shallow graves. You drag unconscious NPC’s and place them in the wheel, it then converts them to a thrall which pops out after conversion is done. Once they go in, you can’t get them back. This has precedent also with the shackles.

That first one is gorgeous! Would love to see more pics of it!

This is your claim and it is false. Both Conan Exiles and Are of Conan are reimaginations of Howards lore I.E. “Not Canon”. Funcom has not hidden this… at all. Multiple Q&As and Livestreams. The facts/examples you keep ignoring. The only examples you have that follow your logic are non canon post Howard works that again are not Canon.

Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are licensed by the Tolkien foundation but they are not canon events. Something can be officially sanctioned and still not be part of the canon. The comics, D&D module, movies and yes the games of Conan are not canon parts of Howard’s world. Only his books are.

But by all means have the last word if it makes you feel better about your self.
