Automatic monthly payments for DLC's

Hi, I’d like to know why every time I buy a DLC for Conan Exiles it gets flagged in Paypal as an automatic monthy payment. Is there something in the contract that I missed? Thank you.

Where are you buying your DLCs from? Steam Store?

I buy DLCs for CE in the Steam shop and pay with my credit card. No “monthly payments”, not a single time. Maybe it’s some specific issue with Paypal?

Often with PayPal it sets a business as belonging to “Pre-approved payments”:

This is usually if the payer’s details are stored with PayPal; it doesn’t always mean that there will be follow on payments, just that the process is simplified the next time PayPal is used with that business.

Look in the “Description” field on the page for “pre-Approved payments”, it will most likely have an order number or some such. Subscriptions usually describe the kind of payment schedule, like:

I’ve bought all my DLCs from Steam Store, using Paypal, and I haven’t encountered any questions regarding monthly or recurring payments.

Bad move on PayPal’s part if that’s the case, IMO. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say it’s a poor choice of words. I haven’t used it, so I can’t say how it works. But I can say it would put me very ill at ease to see anything listed as a monthly or pre-approved payment that isn’t specifically a subscription or paying down a much larger purchase.

I know the preferred method these days is to just whip out the magic plastic card and expect the old farts in the capital buildings to wave a magic wand that makes the creditors go away, but I’m pretty old school when it comes to money. I prefer not spending money I don’t have and keeping an eye on what little money I do have. That makes me pretty wary of anything that even hints that it’s going to be automatically siphoning money out of my wallet.

If you add paypal as your payment method in steam (or save it when asked to), they appear as approved seller. However, this doesn’t mean that they will charge you recurring payments even if they have your general authorization. As Broc pointed out, it will be just quicker to pay using them next time.

If you check your authorized sellers, some of them, such as steam, will show this:

Others, such as spotify, will charge you automatically. However, they have the following description:

If you want to be extra cautious, cancel your steam authorization in paypal and remove your paypal account as the payment method in steam under your account:
