Single Player - PC (so these aren’t conditions for playing with others or blocking off other people for anything)
Question 1: Building near Sepermeru - I’ve built in the water next to the city, but never “in” the city. If I build too close, (like maybe in the lakes inside the city or against a wall of the city itself, wouldn’t the NPCs de-spawn? (I ask because I don’t want the NPCs to despawn if I build like I’m part of the city).
Question 2: Building in an NPC camp (this is the opposite of the above). If I wipe out an NPC encampment, can I build there and cause those NPCs to ‘not’ come back? Basically, taking over.
Question 3: Building in a Boss spawn location (like one of the Crocodile bosses), does that cause him to no longer spawn or would he spawn inside a base built there? (Is it possible, as a low-level character, to run up next to a Croc boss, put a foundation down (land-claim) and run away – causing the boss to de-spawn after a while?)
AFAIK, there is nowhere you can build around Sepermeru that would block any spawn nodes in the city, even at the edges. NPC encampments should generally be flagged as no-build areas, but there are a few places that I can think of where you can effectively block spawns. Why you’d want to is a different thing, there’s no practical advantage to “taking over” a thrall camp unless you just want to grief other players.
And yes, you can completely block the spawn locations for most bosses. it sucks, and it’s a crappy thing to do.
True, I overlooked the single player bit. But even in single player, there’s no particular advantage to blocking NPC thrall spawns or legendary boss spawns. You’re just borking yourself.
Thanks for the clarification. I wondered about its impact on gameplay. I mean, if a small Darfari camp of a couple of NPCs was in a location that the player really, really wanted, I didn’t know if it was possible to ‘take it over’ – as I hadn’t tried it yet… and subsequently, if the tents would de-spawn, too or if just the NPCs would disappear and one would have to build ‘over’ or ‘around’ those structures (which probably defeats the purpose of taking a spot).
On the flip side, I also don’t want a location to de-spawn really good NPC locations (like Sepermeru). So I was asking about that location as well and seeing ‘how close’ I could build without interfering with it.
So thanks for the insights and feedback. I appreciate learning from other people’s experiences.
Player structures will only block respawns for dynamic objects, like NPCs and resources you can interact with (trees, stone/ore nodes, plants, etc.) They won’t cause NPC structures to disappear in whole. So, for example, even if they allowed you to place inside areas like the Summoning Place, Sepermeru or New Asagarth (which they don’t) it would just block the NPCs from respawning. it wouldn’t cause the existing buildings to disappear.
Unless it was changed with the last couple of updates (entirely possible) there’s a few small Dafari camps I know of that you could effectively block respawns in by building near them. But, as I said, no point in doing it either way.
Edit: Oh, you were just talking Sepermeru there. You’re absolutely right. There’s no way to block any spawns in Sepermeru.
Would that also be true for the main NPC “city” locations like New Asagarth or Floatsam? I just want to make sure I don’t mess them up by building a really nice house, log out for the night, and log in the next day to find everyone gone.
I did this on my single player game with the rhino boss because I liked the little oasis location in the desert next to the Mitra temple. Aggro and run away and drop a foundation real quick simple as that and he doesn’t spawn there anymore.
I know you can’t build in New Asagarth but unsure of how close you can build to things in the Buccaneer Bay area. Never tried to build there.
New Asagarth, there’s a barrier even on the outside of the city that the game won’t let you build in. The city is up on a hill, obviously, and about 3-4 foundations on the flat land below the hill is the closest the game will let you build.
I’m guessing you are using my mod (LBPR). As others have said, NPCS will stop spawning if built too close. NPC teens and stuff won’t, even if you destroy them they will come back (I actually looked into this in the dev kit and found there wasn’t a mod friendly way to fix that).
You can adjust NPCs spawning or not with the Landclaimradiusmultipler found in the server settings.ini For example, set it to someone low like, .10 or .15 and NPCs will often keep spawning near player made buildings.
I do have the server setting down as low as the panel would let me go (.25). I hadn’t thought of editing the actual .ini file. Thanks for the suggestion!
Ya the actual .ini will let you go lower, I use it all the time. I typically go around .15, but if you want to make sure NPCs come back, go lower then that.
As far as Buccaneer Bay. Good luck. I tried building somewhere to put a wheel of pain. On the sandy area you have to go all the way out of the bay basically to build anything. Or up the passage that goes up and into the mountains above Flotsam and even then there is only a very small space. So you wont be blocking anything there.
Same goes for Sepermeru. Closest I could put anything was out by the rhinos.
There are a few places very close to Sepermeru, out near Westwall being one. However, on official servers, they’re usually claimed because experienced players know where they all are. But none of them will block spawns there.
