Big Problem with Greater Wheel of Pain

Hey there,
like the title says the GWOP is making problems.

Everytime and wherever you wanne put it, you need 4*ish times the area of the Wheel, to be able to place it.
And even then you have to be lucky and pray to let it be in not too much of a horrible position.

Now, trying to make it fit, I literally built a 2 layer foundation platform of 420 foundations and it simply doesn’t fit on it.

Can you find a way to make it more placement friendly?

PS: OR AT LEAST MAKE IT RETURNABLE TO THE INVENTORY!!! For real yo…

You may have already done this, but play with the depth. I have better success with this. Only issue is it looks pretty goofy now that the taskmaster is on the ground.

I did and tried a few different approaches, couldn’t make it work sadly.

But I rather want to adress the spacial problems of the big wheel in general.
I think it occupies too much space to begin and not from a justified space nature but more a glitchy nature.
Trying to make it fit feels always like a penalty and takes away your building freedom.
It doesn’t feel right.

I really wish they could make wheels and temples so you could pick them up and move them temporarily. To avoid abuse maybe a timer could be added so once it’s been down x amount of time it becomes unmovable.

I’ve “had” to destroy several simply because they were a quarter a foundation off and I couldn’t tell from the angle I was standing, it can be especially awkward if you’re on a roof that’s exactly the perfect size

Or perhaps if they wouldn’t be made moveable they could have a ghost image that you put down and then can examine the placement from all angles and then either confirm the build or cancel it?

Another thing I’ve noticed is that nearby walls cause serious problems with placing wheels and altars. Try to put down the foundation first, then the wheel/altar. Once it’s where you want it, you can easily put the walls around them and it’s much more straightforward to get everything placed.

For the greater wheel, try making a round foundation. Start with the six wedge center and build out rings until the wheel fits. IIRC, 3 rings out should be enough for the greater wheel.

420 foundation per layer? That’s absurdly lot. I can put it down on a 7*8 area, or so.

The problem I noticed with round foundation is you can not centre exactly anything on it, including the three kind of Wheel of Pain. That really bother me because a round WoP must be exactly in the centre of round foundation.
Otherwise I often had less problem to place a WoP, greater or not, on my base’s roof than on foundations placed near the ground.
And when I’m a it, Was the single animal pen implemented in the 205 update ? It’ll really be a big improvement for those like me who aren’t not in filling their base with pets or farming gold / silver with rocknose. Most of the time I capture Bambi to make dung for compost and if I capture a baby animal, only from a mammal specie, I tam it hoping to get a greater pet. If I don’t I let the tamed animal go free. SO, I’ve no use of a big animal per, 1 or two single animal pens will be enough and save a lot of place.

Yes. It’s a great addition.

You can get the wheel more or less centered, you just need to try different angles. I also find first-person view to give more control. Once you get it lined up, you can try rotating it until it allows you to place it, then you can figure out where you want to put side rooms and doors, etc. It takes a bit of doing, but it’s totally possible. The ladder/catwalk is actually really helpful in placement compared to the smaller wheels. Now that the Taskmaster stands on the ground for the greater wheel, their placement is just to the left of the ladder when looking at the wheel, so you know where they will be before you put it down.

No 210*ish each. I used the triangle ones.

Oh okay I get it!
I usually throw down foundations until I can fet the wheel on it, and done. NEVER used triangles

When dealing with wheels of pain actual usage is a thing to consider to. If you are a solo player you may not need a greater wheel of pain. A smaller version may soot your plating style better. The smaller wheels of pain are easier to place and may fit you base design better as well.

Put it on the ground and build around it. This pic negates every one of your complaints.

Tipp 1: Build a 3 block tower beside it, so you may look down upon the building site and positioning is much easier.
And here the smallest round hole it could fit in …of course building the walls afterwards is better.

One thing i had forgotten about, but today it happened in my game again - so this problem still exists: You can´t put down a greater wheel of pain under a roof (normal ones also seem to have this problem), no matter how high it is! Ok, today i had a roof that was only around 8 or 9 walls high, but should easily suffice! This can be a big problem, if you build in a cave or even under an overhanging rock.
The maproom had a similar problem, but has been fixed.
