Brawlers Gloves - can we get unarmed fighting style?

Indeed. I just wanted to point out that one shouldn’t trust real world “self-defense courses” when they teach you how to disarm a knife-fighter. In real world, you still get cut or stabbed if you try to do that with your bare hands.

True. Most games emphasize the abstract concept of “balance” over realism. A two-handed sword must be slow or it would be unfair against a dagger. Realistically, a two-handed sword is unfair against a dagger because, contrary to popular belief, it’s not slow at all.

And many game designers don’t actually know a damn thing about real weapons, so they think that a rapier is a light weapon and a greatsword is a clumsy weapon. Or they get their concept art from Warhammer and think a warhammer’s business end is the size of a train car. And of course, that a European knight’s armor is heavy and clumsy but a samurai’s armor is light and nimble.

What is weird is that in Conan Exiles, a two-handed sword is clumsy and slow, but a huge hammer lets you defy gravity. I mean, what the hell is going on with the two-handed hammer’s animations, especially the heavy finisher?

Agreed. Unarmed combat has always been a vital part of armed combat. Punching, kicking, wrestling, choking etc. have featured in (armed) martial arts in both West and East. I’d be worried that Funcom would turn it into some kind of Peking opera kung fu, but that would actually be in line with many combat animations we have already.

Yeah in that case they’re definitely going to kill you if you don’t have a weapon, since that is definitely the intent. You’re options are to stand and die, or run and maybe live.

I would believe cripple would be more appropriate for hand to hand and no armor penetration absolutely agree.

Depends on many things. Thick clothing may stop the blade and trap it long enough for you to grab the wrist. Or the blade may strike a bone and give you the chance to neutralize the attacker. Or the blade may be dull enough to only cut you slightly.

But these conditions depend on the attacker being unskilled, the knife being poor and you getting lucky. Not the odds I’d prefer. It would be much preferable to grab an equalizer you could use against the blade - a jacket, a bar stool, a broomstick, or basically anything that isn’t your bare hand.

There was a case in Turku, Finland a few years ago where a wannabe terrorist attacked random passers-by with a knife. Some people tried to be heroes, and turned into victims. Several were killed, and several more permanently injured.

I’m not saying games shouldn’t have cool unarmed martial arts that can compete with armed styles. But one should never make the mistake of thinking that the same applies to the real world. Rock doesn’t beat scissors.

Depending on the application of the rock very well could beat scissors lol.

Just for the record, today miss “Shelob” fell only by fist fight.
My level was 26, 3 perks in strength, 2 perks in vitality and one perk on grit. The past 2 days i do a only sorcery gear session and i needed demon blood for my first demon rhino. Miss Shelob fell after a long fight indeed, but not impossible. I guarantee you that fist fight can stagger and it has amazing combos like all the weapons. Fist fighting is viable even in low levels. Of course it’s not as effective as weapons, which is absolutely logical, but it is as i said viable. Try it, try to survive and build without weapons, it’s absolutely possible.
Just do it on single player for first time, performance in fights is absolutely necessary.
The new kick is a blast!

Funcom could use the animations from the fast kata emote for unarmed combat perhaps
