Bows have always had an advantage in historic warfare. Until you close in on archer. At which point they usually died. Its the reason we put them behind the shield wall or on walls.
A well played archer can be rough to beat. That is certain. But you need to sacrifice your health Vitality to make a decent archer build in this game period.
But then again you have the option using your bow to close the gap.
I don’t usually like conversations like this because its forcing people to play the game how you/they want by nerfing something that isn’t broken.
The Spear and Hammer meta spawned the bow meta. Adding hyper armor to the hammer lead to people having to use the bow to compete.
The removal of the stagger in daggers and range made people go back to other weapons.
Maces are in a better place and one hand axe and shield can still dominate. 2 hander is a PVE weapon for the most part in my opinion. 2 handed axe is the same.
People are always going to defeat the meta and the meta before that. Right now people need to use the bow. Once everyone starts using the bow people will start using sword and axe for the gap closer. Or Jhebbal sag claws. Or something.
Overall and i cant stress this enough. To be an archer you need more stats to keep up your damage. Much more than melee.
You need Encumbrance to carry arrows.
Accuracy for days.
Grit to sustain.
These are the big ones. The rest you need to really play around with and that’s not a lot of points left over.
Also. Switching between arrows is clunky. My bar is full of arrows. Which limits healing items and bandages. This also limits what I can loot as well. Because to maximise damage I can only put in enough encumbrance to carry my gear.
Speccing into archery as a pure archer will make you powerful. It should. But it is much less forgiving than speccing for melee. That has been the case since the beginning.
Someone with 50 accuracy should feel as powerful as someone with 50 Strength.
if you watch one of the videos i posted, i didn’t sacrifice any vitality.
my specs: 20 str / 10 agi / 40 vit / 50 acc / 20 grit / 20 enc.
if i didn’t have some buffs, i would sacrifice grit. i usually play with 10 grit, you just need control over your stamina.
i have bow / arrow / tea / roasted raunch / wrap / set potion on my hotkey bar.
i still have 2 slots for different arrows if i wish to.
but theres no need for many arrow types, as long as i can 3-4 shots everyone with dragonbone/starmetal/hollow bone arrows.
Historically heavy armors had good protection against arrows. this is my biggest complain.
I posted a video showing my point. Why don’t you also make one showing off your super pvp skills countering the poor and weakened bow?
I don’t think there is anything in this world that will change my thinking that a weapon that kills with 3 shots over a long distance is not op.
But if melee got you you would easily be fodder. You did in fact sacrifice a fair bit to become deadly in Archery. You made a build similar to mine. And if you are going to run that, you will be on point with people running similar Strength setups.
i didn’t sacrifice anything.
in deed, i can build: 30~40 str / 40 vit / 40 acc / 10~20 grit / 20 enc and still be deadly with bow. this is the same spec for both melee and archery, still kill with 4 shots.
lol. hahaaha
besides it was a test, my oponent is much worth than the ones you fought on your vid ^^
btw, target lock is a thing when oponent is closer enough, as you can see, i’ve killed him when he opened his guard. it doesn’t have to be only when the enemy comes straight. with light armor dodge roll i can go far from his reach, shoot and not get caught.
as i said before, i’m killing easily every enemy i encounter… every server i go if there’s no archer on the enemy team, it’s gg for us. we’ve already wiped two servers.
i’m not from EU, but i could try to join your single player or something like that if you want to. maybe with vpn it works
