Broken Thralls in Combat Not Attacking

Thralls don’t attack at times. Stuck in attack stance. Sometimes, creatures don’t attack as well. Thrall archers shoot arrow once, and that’s it. They are stuck in an attack stance and do nothing. Combat for thralls is set to aggressive and range is set to far.

I’ve experienced this a lot today. It seems more likely to happen if my mace-wielding thrall swings and misses. Maybe he’s just embarrassed?

All of mine were using swords, and it happens with the archers all the time. They shoot once, and then they are stuck in an attack stance and don’t do anything. Sometimes the creatures freeze too and you are the only one that can even do anything.

I removed the better thralls and the fashionist mods (most likely the better thralls mod is the culprit), and it seems that archers will continue attacking after one shot. The other thralls also didn’t freeze in an attack stance and continued fighting. I tried in a few different battles with creatures, and haven’t had any issues yet where before it would happen frequently for the melee attacks and always for the archers. I still need to do more testing though, but just how the archers always attack now is great improvement.

Note: Use the 100 follower limit mod if you want more thralls in the party. It is still working.

Happened to me before a lot. How about your following distance range? Sometimes too short following distance makes thralls to prioritize it more than to go outta this limit to attack an enemy, making them stuck in their “onguard” position, but not willing to approach the enemy beyond the player’s following limit settings.

I have have set the distance for all followers to high, and they are all set to aggressive. I spent another 15 minutes testing them without the better thralls and fashionist mod, and they seem to be still working as they should. Still no attack stance freezes and the archer continues to fire arrows after attacking once. The better thralls mod really might have been the culprit in this. I’m still testing it out though. I’m gonna go into a vault and see what happens.

No, I believe the mod is not it. I play vanilla on officials all the time, have no experience with mods, and this problem is appearing randomly anyway. Some players blame the number of online players, some blame other stuff (for example like sandstorm in Unnamed City).

Yeah, I think you’re probably right. I added the mod back in, and it’s still working. Perhaps when I restarted the game in fixed it for now. This seems to be happening too often though. Like yesterday, the archer would fire once and stop all the stime. Maybe I just got lucky today. The DEVs really need to look into this.

Well, this is for years ongoing problem now and never got attention anyways. The thralls just work, act and function in random manner, while other content is being added to the game and plenty of other bugs are getting no attention whatsoever.

I am not the only one who gave up on them and only uses them in roleplay or aesthetic manner.

I noticed that I set them for 5 meters for and only for defense, seems to work better but kicker is this the archers shoot really really slow.

by time arch gets two shoots off with a bow i would have shoot about 15 arrows already and or killed whatever it is already.

I also notice that the thralls following you into combat, they attack swing with daggers so forth really slowly also.

I dont think its issue of them getting stuck, I think they are just programed to suck honestly compared to NPC that you get attacked by, npcs thralls that follow you just seem to be really slow in everything they do even once they get into combat.

I also noticed as they level up they seem to engage in combat and swing or shoot arrows faster not by alot but they do seem to incress in speed as they level up.

but this is funcom and it is exils game so its possible that way it is meant to work just does not work well and is buggy or laggy.

This saddens me. Two of my favorite games this (Conan Exiles) and The Sims 4, they’re both just so littered with bugs. I use both games for storytelling, and these bugs just make it difficult. TS4 is in much worst condition though. It’s so bad that I can’t even continue on with my story there until they fix a few story breaking bugs. At least, I can work on another part of my story with Conan Exiles, lol! The DEVs really should focus on ironing these bugs out, or at least the most critical ones, like the thralls and enemies not attacking bugs etc before releasing new content. I love new content, but bug fixing should be the priority.

I’m playing on a private server with just 2 of us on it, and it’s happening to my thrall in about 90% of fights. We did have both Fashionist and Better Thralls, but removed them before starting a new game. I’ve tried changing the distances and switching between defensive and aggressive but nothing seems to have made a difference. I’ll try a different thrall and see if I have the same issue.

One thing I noticed is that in the vault I was in, the thralls and the creatures stop attacking in the same spot, always! I did this vault a few times now. I get to that switch and gate, and that’s when they all just stop doing anything, every single time.

This seems to be mainly happening on the server. When we each go into our single player games, we have no issues, but on the server we’re both having problems with fighter thralls freezing in combat most of the time.

In the previous chapter, there was a bug that broke thrall AI if you placed them in a chair (green ghost outline in sitting position). After doing so, they would not fight in combat, sometimes only swinging once then standing there. You could cause them to attack again by taking their weapon and giving it back, but only one swing at a time.

I have not tested whether or not this is still happening, but wouldn’t be surprised if it is. If so, take your thralls out of chairs and wait for a server restart.

This makes sense. I usually put my thrall ‘on guard’ seated at the table! In the meantime, we have installed an addon called 100 Follower Limit and that seems to have solved the problem. We installed it thinking that if we had 2 thralls, maybe at least one of them would hit a mob, but thralls are fighting nicely on their own now.

Alas, this is one of the bugs inherent in the game as such, and manifests itself, including in a single player game. This was especially common, according to my observations, about three years ago, when, most likely, this bug appeared.
I noticed that most often this happens when the thrall reacted with aggression to the appearance of a small enemy (a hyena, for example), but did not receive damage itself. To bring him out of his stupor, you need to kick him well so that he receives sufficient damage, and always so that he moves from his place. This usually doesn’t happen with bosses, because they usually deal a lot of damage, but in fights with small enemies it happens quite often.
I found a solution by enabling it in my single player pvp game. As soon as my thrall gets thoughtful in the middle of a fight, I give him a good slap. Always helps.

Another thing I noticed is that enemies also get stuck on walls, and then they also stop attacking. Took out a boss at the end of a vault by trapping it by the wall. It wouldn’t fight back.
