[bug?] Conan Exiles not exiting fully per steam?

Game mode: All (Online official | Online private | Single-player)]
Type of issue: Performance | Misc]
Server type: [Enter one of the following: PvP | PvE-Conflict | PvE]
Region: [Please enter your server region]

Since latest patch, conan exiles won’t shut down properly for me. tested with Family Shared Account and Original Owner Account. CE shuts down (or crashes), yet remains running according to Steam. Not visible in windows task manager.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. launch CE from original account ir family shared account
  2. at main menu, click exit
  3. watch as game closes, wait several minutes
  4. Steam continues to report game is running
  5. click ‘Stop’ - no effect
  6. cannot relaunch game as steam believes it is running
  7. view task manager - game not visible in active tasks
  8. exit steam, which complains that CE is still running
  9. force steam to close anyway
  10. relaunch steam, able to start game again.

Seems more a Steam issue, like you describe it.
I had over time different such trouble with Steam and games, not only related to CE.
You also mentioned that your taskmanager wasn’t mentioning CE, so it’s more of a Steam struggle.

Look if this happen again, an other day. Steam is tricky, and has good and bad days.

For me it takes a minute or so after I exit the game for steam to register it as no longer running, I can then relaunch it.

@Narelle
Yes, I am used to it taking a minute or two. 10 min+ is a bit excessive. Even on my laptop. :grinning:

Can you check if the launcher is running maybe?

If you’re up to it, I recommend downloading and running the Process Explorer. If you see ConanSandbox.exe or ConanSandbox_BE.exe in the process list, then the game is still running. If you see FuncomLauncher.exe, then the launcher is still running. If you see neither, then there’s something f#cky going on

PS: You probably don’t really need Process Explorer – you could use the regular task manager to view the process list – but I find Process Explorer more helpful and easier to use.

Well, I left it alone for a looooooomg time and it eventually released. As I mentioned, anything in excess of 10 minutes is a bit over the top.

Regardless, that may just be an issue with steam on my laptop. I don’t recall excessive waits after exiting the game on my desktop.

It would still be useful to know which process is the culprit. Don’t take me wrong, I’m not pressuring you, just saying that if you find the time, it might be helpful
