I am wondering if it is normal for a camp of enemies to become empty once you build too close to it? Because I had thought this was why the “building is not allowed here” rule was implemented.
I have been building near Flesheater Falls, and there were always people there before, all of a sudden now everyone is missing. Now I know some camps are glitched, or that at times it takes a long time to load, but this is not the case with me here. In my particular example, all the chests are missing too, as well as some of the decor, like tents. Is this normal? Did they pack up and leave or what?
No matter how long I wait, the people, chests and decor do not come.
I am in single player, yes. I think this will need a bug report indeed, I need to make tests and take more pictures first.
Because my base is in between Flesheater Falls and Skittering Caverns; see it will not let me build near the caves, but I must get pretty close to them before that message pops up. My building is not really that close to the now empty camp, at least not as it is to the spider cave, so I want to go try to build near or in it, see what happens.
I have other bases where “building is not allowed here” seems…screwy. Like one camp is across the river and the area surrounded by no building is HUUUGE, while a tiny exile camp could pretty much be whalled in since you are allowed to build so close before you get the no building message.
Oh its normal. There is a despawn radius for building pieces. Its different for npcs vs resource nodes I believe. You’ll have to back your structure off if you want the camp to be populated. On a side note, this gets people into trouble on officials. Putting a build blocker for all camps would severely cramp SP and private servers (without mods and you are on ps4 so this is irrelevant to you).
Aaah, ok. If it is to prevent blocking resources then that makes sense; because the Narrowneck Camp has some steel nodes near it, so this is why the no build zone there is so big? Flesheater Falls has no resource nodes anywhere near it, aside from trees and natural rocks.
I did not realize that “despawn radius” was a thing. So to set things right, “building is not allowed here” was implemented in order to protect resources?
Building not allowed is kept to certain areas like Sepemeru and stuff. The littler camps can be despawned (like wildlife spawns) if built too close. Its a balance because there are tiny camps that in your SP game you might not care so they give you more freedom to build, but as many have pointed out, too many no build zones can be annoying in single player.
This is one of the reasons I think building exclusion zones should be an admin panel or server setting toggle.
Making it easy to protect on officials and as free or restricted as the admin wants on private or sp.
But that’s wishful thinking.
If you play SP or if you have an own server you can change the settings in the admin menue. You then will be able to build much closer too the camps. It includes respawn of ressources.
Edit: disappearing chests is a bug. It can also happen outside the no building zones.
No, if everything disappears you are definitly in the no building zone. But chests can also disappear outside of the zone, since there is currently a bug in the game.
If you play in SP on PC.
Console, which is the majority of the player base (and this is posted on the PlayStation sub forum), has been denied that option.
Which, I understand that consoles have significant limitations compared to a PC, but this seems just arbitrarily cruel.
