Building issues

Is anyone else having trouble building Doors, placing Cauldrons, and placing Campfires? All other building has been normal for me.

I tried logging and that didn’t help. I tried doing something else and then come back to building with no luck. I also spent some time at another base out of render distance and came back a few times. None of this seemed to help

Whatever was wrong, a server reboot fixed the issue for me. On the flip-side, yesterday’s server reboot also seemed to have caused the issue somehow. At least it was just a minor inconvenience for me.

Sad to say this game is RIFE with desync issues. Not being able to place, or not being able to access chests/items - that is a hallmark of game client issues communicating with the game server. And it happens often.

And yes - often a game client recycle, or a sever boot, will correct it.

The next time you feel as though you may be having issues communicating with the game server - there are a couple of tell tales that you can use. Jump. If you jump jump jump, and your stamina isn’t returned to you normally - you are having a client/server desync. The game server is required to track/measure/validate stamina usage. If you are having bad comms with the server, your stamina bar will not refresh as it normally should. You can also press L to check the player list. If the player list is blank, then you are not properly getting packets from the game server.

I ran a few purges yesterday and had only a single desync issue for about a second that affected my stamina. If it was a desync, it would have to have been a partial desync that affected some things but not others.

My issues started right after a server reboot and ended with the next server reboot. For me, this is the first time having an experience like this.

Hmm. There has been some speculation by us players that there is a memory leak tied to the Purges, and that the server does not handle them very well. Of course, as players, we don’t necessarily have the tools to confirm this speculation.

I have also read reports where people have stated that their game server must be recycled multiple times in order to correct issues. Personally I do not understand why multiple server restarts would be necessary. But again - multiple folks have reported this. So I can’t really be sure.

I am glad that your recycles seemed to correct things.

A memory leak actually makes a lot of sense with purges. A memory leak on the server side, not player side.

I already tested purges on single player when my public servers became unplayable. I had no issues like the public servers were having.

Memory leaks are usually easy to fix but stupidly hard to find.

What is really sad is that most of the games issues are a throttling issue. Most of the games bugs go away when it is able to run at full power.
