Cage Building Pieces

This request was prompted by the re-emergence of discussion surrounding placing thralls in cages. One member has requested cages be made functional, which has been requested in the past, while another pointed out that we can get thralls inside existing cages with some fiddling and workarounds. However, the drawback is that this will only work for thralls and smaller pets, and certainly not multiple thralls in the one cage. So it occurred to me; rather than trying to put the follower in the cage, why not put the cage around the follower?

Thus I would like to politely request Cage Building Pieces. So basically wall and window pieces consisting of bars, metal grating for floors and ceilings, perhaps even some with decorative manacles attached. Sure we already have a few ‘odds & ends’ not in a set, such as the heavy reinforced door, but a full set of pieces consisting of bars would really give us unparlelled creativity. This way we could put a thrall or multiple thralls in, pets including large one like rhinos & elephants, the frost giant, our vault and chests for that secure room feel, heck we could even put an existing cage in it if we wanted for a cellblock feel. I would welcome any thoughts.

would be interesting to see something like this that isn’t reliant on a mod.

to expand a bit, perhaps multiple tiers fit an upgrade path.

  1. rough timber/pole construction with dirt and/or straw/thatch floor
  2. stucco walls with barred windows, plain stucco walls, flat iron slat barred walls, ceiling, door and door frame. cobble floor.
  3. reinforced stone walls, reinforced stone window frame with bars, foundations with deep recessed barred windows, hardened steel cage walls, door frame, and door.

Half-height variations of all might be nice too.

I was just thinking recently that I wanted a wall of only bars to put around my arena so people could watch through it, but it would block participants from accidentally targetlocking the observers.

For a moment, I considered starting a topic asking for them, but then I realized such a set would obviously be added to the Bazaar and cost five to ten times more than I’d be willing to pay for it.

I no longer have any motivation to suggest cool new sets or decorations because I know I will never get them even if Funcom adds them.

Capital idea.

It could be such a limited number of pieces that it would make sense as less than a full set.
Possibly just walls, frames, door frame and ceiling.
Dangling manacle decorations? Rack, Vice, or Wheel placeable decorations?
Probably would mesh best with arena (sandy or stone) as far as foundation pieces go, but stable (hay covered) and reinforced stone are also excellent.

On an only thinly related tangent, are the Iron Maidens craftable in game?
This one saw a few on Siptah and they stuck out like a placeable would.

agreed, and bring metal cages from sipath to exile too.

That is a nice idea!
Just bars as walls and ceilings would be very cool. And like @Tephra I would like to combinate it with arena walls. It would fit perfect.

A 2x2 gate like the one from the stormglas Bazar set just made of bars.

Some days ago I was thinking how to made a cage for my golems because sometimes they fighting each other in guarding position.
Also would like to do it for pet followers.

And some deco stuff like this:

i was wondering about it, not only deco but with the thrall shackled on in it too. Its time to we to have decorative bodies and persons. May the furniture should have a working thrall slot, like a chair you put a thrall in the slot and eh show up seated on it, or a vendor on the market tent from baazar or a carpet where you can put a dancer. Would be fun. But i doubt it will show up in officials

They could add it to the arena set, as they did with storm glass and turan, also add wedge wall to arena

Ok time for some replies. I would be totally fine with that @IPL_Victim, and had actually though a few variants or tiers would probably be the best approach myself. Juxtaposed to having just the one generic type of ‘bars’ which may become monotonous. It is always good to have more options to maximise creative freedoms. Agree.

Out of curiosity, can you drag a thrall into an already built room and hope they don’t get out. I was under the impression that they’ll respawn outside it sometimes. Also, wouldn’t this aggro thralls in the vicinity? This also seems troublesome to knock them out again since keeping thralls nearby will be crazy.

Seems to me a more logical option would be a cage you can place thralls in as a temporary location, then take them back out. Like a wheel, but it doesn’t convert the thrall, nor does it kill them if you take them out. Or
maybe you can place it nearby a wheel and pull them out from the cage to the wheel via a queue. This idea would be similar to a feeding pot. Instead of food feeding nearby thralls, a cage “feeds” a nearby wheel.

I assume this cage idea is in necessity of putting captured thralls somewhere while they wait for a spot to open up on the Wheel of pain that is currently full? In any case I think this mechanic (not the building pieces, i know thats a separate thing) kinda already exists. If i recall, and i havent done it in a while, when you drag a sorcerer to the Khitai camps and click on the cage, the sorcerer actually pops into the previously empty cage, you can see them in there, and you can fill all four of them up. So the devs have already created this, they just have to implement it for us to use it ourselves.

Agreed. And if they can implement a method like the feeding pots to siphon in thralls when openings arise, that would be pretty damn cool!

I too, support this venture.

There is a problem here - they are not captured - they are knocked out - thus are still considered the same game object. I remember at some point this was used to abuse priest spawns - you just knock out a priest but do not put him in a wheel (because in this case it will be removed from the world and replaced by a different object), but instead drag him into enclosed hut and leave him there, and because it was considered the same object game would not respawn new NPC until wake up timer ran out. I believe at some point this was “fixed” by despawning knocked out NPC left outside the wheel but inside the building after some time, but I have not played on officials for ages so I can’t be sure.
Anyway, knocking out the entire Sepermeru population and putting all the uncooked thralls into cold storage to cook them later would be very exploitative. Especially considering how easy this can be done by a few players with Purple Lotus orbs.

This is why my idea of a thrall pot styled cage would be better. It’ll read the thrall as taken out of the game and put into a wheel, but it’ll be a funneling system queued up to be added to the wheel when an open spot is available.

So here’s the thing, the animation sequence for dropping off the knocked out sorcerers switches to them not being knocked out in the cage PLUS they have a unique standing animation where they have their hands on the cage bars doing a Eric Andre “Let Me Out!!” kinda movement. As far as i know this little “free me” animation is new, ive never seen it anywhere else. So this is what makes me think this is a separate operation the devs coded altogether. I have to do a little test when i get home and drop off a sorcerer, and wait 15 min to see if the npc respawns AND the captures one stays in the cage, this will let us know for sure if the “capture-respawn” problem is a thing.

I have placed sorcerer in cage. Now i wait 8:54 pm
9:10, A new sorcerer has spawned in place, captured sorcerer still in cage.
Proof they could probably implement something like this for us, and its a different mechanic they coded for the event but could probably be applied to regular thralls.

Whoa
I had not checked this thread for a while, I was not expecting to find some 17 likes upon returning. Very much obliged to all who have supported.

There are quite a few different aspects of you post here Tephra, some I am in agreement with and some I find myself disagreeing with. So lets unpack this.

This is something which was not in mind when the suggestion was conceived, only to be able to put cages around followers for RP value and easthetics. This is one hypothetical aspect which I would be happy to leave in Funcom’s hands.

It is certainly probable. Although perhaps there would be some baseline pieces and then some reskins on the Bazaar.

As far as the Bazaar goes you are preaching to the converted and the zealous here. I have provided feedback about the pricing on the BLB numerous times, which is so utterly overpriced I can not decide if it is disgraceful or comical. Perhaps both. In fact I started the Poll on its prices to pass on the feedback. But that leads me to this point.

And this is where we disagree. As much as I am apalled by the price gouging on the Bazaar, I will never lose my drive to suggest cool items, as I still love Conan Exiles in spite of the montization and wish to see the game shine as bright as it possibly can.

I’m assuming the manacles is their way of addressing this. They mentioned it may become a placeholder for unconverted thralls, but right now it will destroy the thrall if removed.
