Camel mounts - For cargo and to counter horses

Camels are already in the game so it makes sense to make them mountable. Their function would be different to a horse however, and would serve as either a carvan animal, being able to carry more items than a horse, or either as a counter to horse mounts.

Horses don’t like camels, therefore to represent this when a horse is near a camel, it would receive some debuffs, stamina regen would be slower, say 25%, and damage delt from horseback would be lower, maybe 25-30%. The camel rider in turn would also deal extra damage to any player on horseback.

The setbacks for the camel would be that its slower than a horse, and also a lance couldn’t be used from it.

Similar to the horse the camel would be able to level up its stats and have different saddles for different uses.

What? I’ve been around both horses and camels they don’t care about each other. Why is this a suggestion?

I’m in favor of camel mounts, though I am not sure they would be able to keep their 30-slot inventories as a mount due to balancing concerns.

Possibly this could be resolved by making the smaller capacity mount versions craftable like rhinos, and return the old graphics back to the regular camel (if anyone doesn’t remember, camels used to have large packs on their backs), while the current graphics could be the mount version.

I am not in favor of some kind of proximity debuff against horses. It doesn’t make sense either realistically or mechanically.

I think Conan don’t like camels

But I would like to see them as mounts. Just like horses. No extra power.

Its historically accurate that in battle horses will shy away from camels. Camels have a foul odor, which horses dislike. A camel’s stench scares or even disorients horses, so they will not approach them.

@Kronos92 I like your suggestion.

Horses in Egypt didn’t care too much while I was there.

You’d think we had domesticated them thousands of years ago or something.

Horses don’t actually hate camels, what they do hate is unusual smells, and camels produce a particularly pungent odor.

If horses are used to the presence of camels, they will also get used to the smell and they will no longer be distressed by it.

Would be interesting if they implemented camels as mounts, and then made them faster than horses on sand and slower than horses on rocky ground.

Pretty much this. Horses don’t really like the smell of humans either. Most animals don’t. But domestication has a way of working through these things.

Maybe a good difference to horses where if they are little bit slower but even if you are overloaded they move normal.

But of course rihnos must have somthing similar too. Or they get more inventory places.

First of all, that animal in the movie is a dromedary.

Dromedary, one hump.
Camel, two humps
Easy to remember

The dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) (/ˈdrɒmədɛri/ or /-ədri/), also known as Arabian camel,[2] is a large even-toed ungulate, of the genus Camelus, with one hump on its back.

I wouldn’t say no to a camel mount, it definitely makes sense in some of the locations we have in game. They’re not fast though. But they’re capable. I would say at their current stats, I wouldn’t even be against them keeping some of their pack abilities.

I also wouldn’t be above having horses get a sort of pack saddle added to them. One that increases their slots, but reduces their handling and speed. Pack horses were a thing.

But why stop at horses and camels. Could see donkeys and mules. I got quite a bit of use out of a donkey in Archeage a few years back.

Always wanted camels for the desert areas,

make Camels and horses function in niche areas.

ie a camel has better stamina recovery and less burn in the desert regions and add a bar or two of heat resistance. Horses do not gain any benefit in desert

In highland type regions horses would have the stamina recovery increased and less burn, plus the horse should add a bar or two of warmth while riding, camels would not benifit in cold regions.

Then have rhinos just be an all around war mount and have them work decently but not as good in both regions

You need to watch some camel races my friend, they are definently fast lol

I’m not exactly a fan of using animals in sports I’m afraid.

Fair enough

Pfft, next you’re probably gonna try to tell me that a Komodo dragon is a type of monitor lizard, or a baboon is a monkey.

…Also yes how on Earth have we gotten rideable rhinos in this game and we still can’t ride camels.

They are both camels. Two-humped camels are Bactrian camels.

All dromedaries are camels, not all camels are dromedaries.
