Can a Convergence trap be used as a weapon? Can someone build a convergence trap next to another player’s base, set it off, and then hide somewhere while demons pour out and descend upon an unsuspecting player’s base? I can see that happening on an official server.
Maybe there should be some safeguards put in place or is this acceptable PvP behavior? I can also see it being used to get around PvE restrictions (such as on PvE and PvE-C servers). Maybe there should be a log entry that a convergence trap was set off by a specific player and that those Purge monsters were from a particular player? Or perhaps make the Purge monsters only attack that specific player’s base (like a convergence trap must be connected to a “base” and the Purge that comes to it can only attack the base it is connected to)?
I did a bit of testing. Keep in mind that I’m the only person on my test server so there is only one clan but I suspect this stuff is by design for the reasons you’ve mentioned.
If the clan triggering the trap has no bases that would normally attract a Purge (90+ building pieces) the clan’s purge bar gets filled but the summoning fails. And I suspect there’s a bug here I’ll test it more tomorrow.
If the base the trap is on is too small to attract a purge but the clan has other bases that are big enough to attract a Purge, one of those bases will be targeted at random.
If the base the trap is on is big enough to attract a purge then it will always be the target of that Purge.
So in order to troll another players base you’d need to build a sufficiently large base close to theirs, drop a trap on it and trigger the summons. You then need to hope that the Purge critters will spawn close to their base and path into it and that they don’t have thralls in place to defend.
I’d say its possible but can’t this all happen right now?
Got a friend onto my test server so we could create a separate clan. I suspected there was a bug caused when triggering a purge without a large enough base to target but I don’t think its a real problem.
What we found:
Using “Invoke Convergence” on a Convergence Trap without having a sufficiently large base to target in your clan leads to you getting “A Convergence Trap is already active” message and it prevents you from interacting with your trap. This will persist until server restart.
This isn’t that much of an issue as your Purge Meter is full and if you build out a sufficiently large base it will trigger a purge against it normally anyway and if you wanted a purge then you’re probably happy with having a full meter in the mean time.
The “A Convergence Trap is already active” message is clan specific so you can’t lock out another clan from using their Convergence Trap.
If you have two bases from different clans close enough to each other the spawned creatures will attack whatever they come across first. So you could use this to indirectly attack another player but, again, that’s how the game currently works. The only thing changing is the regularity with which you might be able to do it - and it still costs 200 Unstable ???s each time to do it.
