Can someone please explain to me what the Thrall rescue function is for?

I’ve been playing this game since just before launch and I still don’t understand what the thrall rescue function is even for. The only time I want to use it is if I’ve made a huge mistake and my thrall is outnumbered, dying, and I can’t save them. And then you get the message that they can’t be rescued because they’ve been in combat in the last ten minutes! When else would you want to rescue them? If you do nothing, they teleport home with all their gear after a while anyway.

Am I missing something obvious?

most likely, you have never had a thrall/pet that sank into the ground/foundations or glitched into the terrain. the feature was introduced at a time when this was very common. since the thrall loses all of its equipment when rescued, it is more of a last resort when nothing else works

Ah yeah, OK that’s never happened to me. I don’t use thralls much, I’ve only started using them seriously in the last year or so.

You couldn’t leave them on the ground. They had to stand over a foundation.
Otherwise they would probably sink. Some places were worse than others.
On SP, you just made yourself admin, enabled ghost mode, and you could go down and retrieve them. On a server, rescue was your only resort if you had the same situation happening.

The “mistake” however here was that though it was not a players “fault” to experience this situation, he had to loose the good set his thrall was wearing :man_shrugging:. I do understand that if it was different, people would “abuse” this situation, so I stop it here.
@Firecrow I agree, our thralls must have extra orders, I believe that especially in pvp our thralls should have a “long distance command” called “flee”. Not that this would be totally safe for your thrall, but at least it would give a chance. If your thrall could ride your horse to come back this would be AWESOME, but I am dreaming awake here, I am sorry :rofl::rofl:.

Yup

If I die and lose my loot, I can access a parked Follower and take his Kit. Then I can Recall him to my main base to issue him a new kit.

Also, it’s a great feature for moving from an old base to a new base.

This is a VERY good idea.

@Barnes you don’t happen to know if rescuing thralls is possible during purges?
Because you could move an army as long as you had armors and weapons on outposts that get hit unexpectedly…

Ive also lost a thrall to the bottom of the sea with a water base before… in that case I could yank their gear and then rescue them

You are very lucky if none of your thralls have ever disappeared by falling through the ground. There was a time where this happened to my thralls very frequently.
Once, before rescue mode was implemented, one of my thralls vanished and I used ghost mode to locate her, and I found her miles in the earth…just standing there amidst eternal rain, darkness and weird windy sounds…it was, erm, kind of scary.

I have used it during a Purge but it’s been a long time. One of my team’s cherished dudes was almost dead, I was displaced and watched on the HUD basically, so I pulled him. My team collected his gear from a baggie.

Hum… I might test it @Barnes , using SP mode, on Spitah, forcing a purge. If it works, you struck gold, my friend!

There is a cooldown, though. If you’re moving your base and have 15 guards, it’ll take many days. :eyes:

Between each use of the rescue function or to use rescue again on the same thrall, @Barnes ? Because if it’s just applied to the same thrall, in 15 days I’ll have thralls everywhere! So I can live with it.

Between each use. Heck I think it’s 1 hour on officials, but “most” Privates have it set to 10 minutes. Once the thrall is rescued, he’s perfectly normal, and nude as a cueball.

ETA there is an additional cooldown to prevent abuse that slipped my mind: if your thrall has received damage within 10 minutes, you are blocked from rescuing him. This was put in place I believe to prevent what I did during the Purge, although this guy was legit in a block of ice.

Thank you @Barnes . It makes sense, I guess.
I suppose it’s better to tell you the specifics of my situation.
I built a new base recently and downsized the previous one. However, I was expecting the last purge to hit on the former main base, on the mounds.
The new one, on the jungle, had only untrained volcano thralls and a few dancers. The army was at ready in our former HQ.
To my surprise, the purge hit the new base, spawning inside, which was a mess. It was a dreadful lemurian purge, mostly monsters, with two (maybe 3) waves having bosses (those giants who hit like trucks). The last wave spawned 4 of them inside a room where you could barely move.
All my son and I had time to do was getting two top tier thralls from the HQ and teleport back. We stopped the purge and didn’t sustain significant losses, although my Eldarium chest was gone for good (it was in the room where the 4 bosses spawned). The base wasn’t even finished. Now I made some adjustments to avoid them spawning inside. This was a few days ago.
But as I’ve been building a lot to finish the base, probably tomorrow I will get another purge and I have no idea where it will hit. We lvled up a few thralls, since then, but the forces are still split. On top of that, our clan has guards on 6 maprooms to keep ppl safe if they are being chased. So we are kind of in a rough spot. I think both forces are enough to hold back lvl6 purges. But if I could move guards the moment I get the purge warning, no purge would stand a chance.
Guess who will fill the wheels today…

I also use the Rescue function to summon reinforcements on the fly. Well, sort of.

What I have is a room full of naked Bearer thralls, so when I run into a situation where I suddenly need to carry lots of stuff, I “rescue” one of these Bearers to my position.

That’s pretty neat, @Kapoteeni .
A room full of naked bearers, is it? And that’s your excuse for it… I see, I see…

That’s a very good idea, btw.
