Can someone please explain to me what the Thrall rescue function is for?

I’ve been playing this game since just before launch and I still don’t understand what the thrall rescue function is even for. The only time I want to use it is if I’ve made a huge mistake and my thrall is outnumbered, dying, and I can’t save them. And then you get the message that they can’t be rescued because they’ve been in combat in the last ten minutes! When else would you want to rescue them? If you do nothing, they teleport home with all their gear after a while anyway.

Am I missing something obvious?

most likely, you have never had a thrall/pet that sank into the ground/foundations or glitched into the terrain. the feature was introduced at a time when this was very common. since the thrall loses all of its equipment when rescued, it is more of a last resort when nothing else works

Ah yeah, OK that’s never happened to me. I don’t use thralls much, I’ve only started using them seriously in the last year or so.

The “mistake” however here was that though it was not a players “fault” to experience this situation, he had to loose the good set his thrall was wearing :man_shrugging:. I do understand that if it was different, people would “abuse” this situation, so I stop it here.
@Firecrow I agree, our thralls must have extra orders, I believe that especially in pvp our thralls should have a “long distance command” called “flee”. Not that this would be totally safe for your thrall, but at least it would give a chance. If your thrall could ride your horse to come back this would be AWESOME, but I am dreaming awake here, I am sorry :rofl::rofl:.

Yup

If I die and lose my loot, I can access a parked Follower and take his Kit. Then I can Recall him to my main base to issue him a new kit.

Also, it’s a great feature for moving from an old base to a new base.

Ive also lost a thrall to the bottom of the sea with a water base before… in that case I could yank their gear and then rescue them

You are very lucky if none of your thralls have ever disappeared by falling through the ground. There was a time where this happened to my thralls very frequently.
Once, before rescue mode was implemented, one of my thralls vanished and I used ghost mode to locate her, and I found her miles in the earth…just standing there amidst eternal rain, darkness and weird windy sounds…it was, erm, kind of scary.

I have used it during a Purge but it’s been a long time. One of my team’s cherished dudes was almost dead, I was displaced and watched on the HUD basically, so I pulled him. My team collected his gear from a baggie.

There is a cooldown, though. If you’re moving your base and have 15 guards, it’ll take many days. :eyes:

Between each use. Heck I think it’s 1 hour on officials, but “most” Privates have it set to 10 minutes. Once the thrall is rescued, he’s perfectly normal, and nude as a cueball.

ETA there is an additional cooldown to prevent abuse that slipped my mind: if your thrall has received damage within 10 minutes, you are blocked from rescuing him. This was put in place I believe to prevent what I did during the Purge, although this guy was legit in a block of ice.

I also use the Rescue function to summon reinforcements on the fly. Well, sort of.

What I have is a room full of naked Bearer thralls, so when I run into a situation where I suddenly need to carry lots of stuff, I “rescue” one of these Bearers to my position.

OK so we have bedrolls by the Birthday Cake location my wife stripped her follower used battle standard to get there rescued her follower running around leveling her as I swam and ran there so we could battle the witch Queen. The 1 hour cool off prevents mass troop movement. If you are in a multi story building they can spawn on the roof has happened plenty of times.

I am talking about the follower ending up on roof during recall they do not always spawn next to you. Going after more cimmaran berserkers now. Love you and our Greek friend

It’s a really good feature for thralls that get stuck under the map or in walls. Sometimes this happens. Unfortunately, Funcom rubbed their stank all over it, so they dropped their gear. Lol

Thrall Rescue also works really well for moving huge numbers of thralls long distances across the map. Actually I shouldn’t say “really well” but it does help.

Go to the thralls, take all their gear, bring it to the new location, begin rescuing them. Unfortunately there is a long waiting period between rescues tho - so this is something to be done casually and probably in conjunction with going there and having them follow you to the new local.

I had to move 79 thralls clear across Siptah and it helped. I just wish the cooldown was more like 5min. instead of however many hours it is. :frowning:

I move based on friends mostly - at least so far. Once I moved from L-5 center to F-8 (top) because three purges in a row were just too easy. Once swing and 5 to 7 of them die immediately. The new place is nice. I actually even died once - pretty unusual.
