Cannot log on to dedicated server with mods

Game mode: Online on private server (PC)
Type of issue: Cannot log on to private server
Server type: PVE
Region: Europe

When logging on to a private server with mods, the game controls the mods. Give ok for all of the installed mods, restarts, and upon opening fails to log on, and is then unable to locate ANY servers.

The server is owned by my wife (she is administrator). We have syncronized our mods, so there is no difference in our setup.
My computer is old, but still above the minimum requirements.
Earlier today we were online on the server, but my computer had a crash, forcing the game to shutdown.
After the crash I have been unable to log back onto the server.
When removing the mods, I can log on just fine.
We have even made a complete reboot of the server losing all progress, but the only thing that works is to remove all mods.

How to reboot/rejoin the game and still play with mods?

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Starting the game as normal
  2. Searching for servers works just fine. I can find the server without problems.
  3. The game checks mods, and all is ok. The game re-launches.
  4. Upon re-launch, the game simply goes to main menu. There is no “attempting to join game” or any other activity. When checking the list of available servers, they are all empty.

Mads, have you validated your local files through Steam? Sometimes crashes, and even Steam, can corrupt your files.

Hi Jim

Tried validating the files. No difference.
The game starts perfectly normal, and I get to choose the server.
The mods are validated, and the games resets. Upon opening again, I’m still stuck on the main menu. It doesn’t try to connect to the server at all. Entering the server selection doesn’t do anything at all, as it cannot locate any servers at all the second time.
I’m thinking that it might be the mods, as I seem to be able to join if they are removed. Just wondering why it worked earlier today?
Would be easier if there just was an error code to go by…

Mads, if you are set to automatically download mods, there could have been an update and your client and her server may be at odds, although that does not seem to fit all of your symptoms. Additionally, one may have been corrupted.

The main clue to me is the fact that you can connect without mods.

I only run one mod that shows me my opponent’s hitpoints (for the Wiki), so not a lot of experience here. Having said that, would it be possible to re-download the mods on both your client and her server? Assure the load order is identical.

Beyond that, I am a bit lost, but @Multigun may have some suggestions, since it is also the weekend in Norway and Ignasis/Hugo are off.

Good luck !

I dunno. Everyone’s computer setup is different. You listed the only consistent issue I know of, which is a version mismatch.

The above does not seem to fit the potential mod mismatch issue; that is really my concern. Eliminating a mod issue is quite worth it, though.

Problem solved.

We rearranged the sequence of the mods, and that did the trick.

Thanks for the help
