So I wasn’t real scientific or anything and I didn’t use a huge sample size but I set up using my pc and my sons a duel between Dalinsia Snowhunters. Both used a Teliths Sorrow (2 hand) with the master weapon fitting mod. One Dalinsia used full Cimmerian Steel armor with bulk plating and the other used Godbreaker full set with bulk plating. Always both were level 1 with full health.
Stats for each Dalinsia: Cimmerian Steel Snowhunter had 925 Armor and 5934 hit points. Godbreaker Snowhunter had 1,081 Armor and 5701 hit points. Godbreaker had about 14.44% more armor. Cimmerian Steel Snowhunter had about 3.03% more health. Godbreaker gave Snowhunter a 1% Strength damage bonus.
In the end I think think the vitality set won like 8 out of 10 times. Rough math on average she came out on top by about 325 hit points. For some reason I was under the impression at the beginning that armor factor Snowhunter (Godbreaker) would dominate the fight but I was wrong. In the end there wasn’t much difference. I’m tempted to do a Cimmerian Steel + Worldbreaker versus GodBreaker + Sword of Crom. Just to see if the high damage Crom will out perform the Worldbreaker trying to go through that extra armor factor.
Hmmm so Crom in Godbreaker beat Worldbreaker in Cimmerian Steel 2 out of 3. WB+CS won the 1st fight by 938 points, mostly due to a lucky string of knockdown combos with WB. The next 2 fights Crom + GodBreacker won by 860 and 1191 hitpoints. Snowhunter with the world breaker was not getting off the knockdown combos she did in the first fight. Only the quality of the combos made all the difference in those 3 fights IMO.
Then I let Dalinsia fight Dalinsia, both in Godbreaker Plate but one used WorldBreaker and the other Crom. Crom won by about 850 to 875 hit points left.
Something that might help you out to understand what is going on is how armor works. Currently armor reduces damage by its damage reduction. Damage reduction = Armor / (Armor + 250). Damage reduction is reduced directly by armor penetration.
So if you have 1000 armor, that is 1000 / (1000 + 250), or 1000 / 1250 = 80%. And a 20% Armor Pen weapon is used will reduce that 80% by 20% to 60%.
Vitality on Thralls increases their Hitpoints as you know. But each thrall type (differences based on teir and tribe) will have a different amount of hitpoints per vitality earned. You’ll need to look at their hitpoints, equip a vitality increasing bit of equipment and check the difference to see since each thrall is different. The same thing happens with Agility in how much armor each point gives.
Id just like to add, when testing with my clan members last time (probably over a year ago) theres a certain threshold where armor amounts above it seem to give diminishing returns on players atleast
Our testing wasnt very scientific, it was more poke and see how much hp is left, but very little difference on 1-200 armor difference
At high enough armors, the damage reduction real effect difference needs to be taken into account…900 vs 1000 armor. What is the %change in damage reduction. This got me sticking to my medium armor w/ 70% DR. Anything higher isn’t worth the stamina regen time increases
Well going to have to disagree here. I run all my thralls with strength bonus armor. Thats a +10 bonus plus the armor protection around 850-1k with a t4 armourer.
Average health pool 6-8k-all heavy armour.
The judge- dead , External bosses outside dungeons -dead. The arena champion was close but dead. Thrall has about 240 health left on that one.Ive lost at least 10 to that champion alone testing these armors.
Ive also used various warpaints and potions on them too- strength, vitality, agility and survival if its a poison or bleed boss
Maybe its how we use them thats also in play here too.
Its clear we have different styles with at least two sets of armor vitality and strength.
Purges- mixed results also but the ones left standing had strength bonus armor.
If your thrall has over 6k health and ~1100 armor. Then more health isn’t needed inside of any PVE encounter in Exiled Lands or Siptah in unmodded content. Your (replying to Akomo’s experience with this encounter) experience with the Arena Champion is a bit weird. My suggestion would be to be a tad bit more aggressive if you can. She’s vulnerable to stagger, stun, and knockdown.
With that said, I do have to point out that STR does give negligible benefit. But while it is very small it is ‘something’. An extra 3-7dmg per hit does add up a little when dealing with 12-15k bosses. Especially when farming them one after the other.
Everything Taemien said is correct, but I want to quote some of it to reemphasize it.
PvE players sometimes get caught up in PvP strategies and forget this. Your thrall only need enough health to not die. If they are not dying, than any number above that is unnecessary. A thrall with 7k health is not going to die just as much as one with 20k health is going to not die.
The Arena Champion has a lot of armor. If your thrall is not using a weapon to counter her armor, they are going to have a hard time. Stagger, stun, and knockdown are all good, but you need one or more of sunder, poison, or bleed (in order of usefulness) as these are all counters to armor.
Unfortunately, this is completely true. Strength only affects the damage % bonus. The thralls’ hidden melee damage multiplier is vastly more important than their strength stat.
Yes, even doing 1 more damage per hit is still more useful than an additional 5k health that will never be used.
IMHO, type of bonus depends heavily on thrall. Tiemos? Vit all the way because you get more bang for the buck (or hp for vit point) than anything else. Janos? Strength.
Thank you for pointing this out. There was a discussion last week where many were showing that they had trouble with the boss known as Rockslide. This boss has an obscene amount of armor, enough to give it 96% damage reduction. In all the tests and videos they were using legendary tier two-handed swords. In reality the thralls should have been using at the very least, stone clubs or stone mauls instead (this is a tad bit hyperbolic, but not really). And this is due to while he has a ton of armor, he only has around 4,800hp.
Arena champion is similar with only 5,000hp but a bit of armor (not quite as much as Rockslide). But due to the nature of her attacks, weapons with hyperarmor are probably preferred.
True- but you need to play on officials to get your system optimized for their servers. When i first started on officials about a year and half ago- i was getting glitched and connection issues every day.Only sent crash reports when prompted.
They have become way more stable over time. Now i rarely get glitched and the only issue is disconnects which also has gone from a daily issue to a weekly one.
And i dont PvP.
Im just playing the game and relaying the experience here what im encountering. This doesnt mean the next player will experience the same thing since, as ive said before, -i customize my own build and thralls.
So ive found a good zone that im in for my build and with thralls. When 3.0 drops ill do the same thing. Funcom will see the data as im sending them crash reports anyways.
And that is why I can’t play on official. I play on a private server with some family members. I couldn’t take the fact that 90% of my loss/defeat/failure came from glitches or bugs or disconnects.
