CEE - water interaction effects absent?

Plants move when you walk past them, insects fly around, rain drops drip down your body and armor, body parts and blood scatter the land, yet there are no water interaction effects other than small splash when swimming.
There are no splash or sound effects when running on shallow water or streams. there ar no ripples or splash when waist down in water. There are no wet effects when getting in and out of the water.

is it just me or did anyone else noticed?

I don’t know what happened here, but its missing and it’s very obvious to the game given the amazing amount of detail on CEE.

Yeah, you’re not alone, it does seem a bit odd.

Likewise the slow wading animation is almost completely gone - it does still happen briefly in exactly the right depth of water, but mostly it just transitions between swimming and walking completely normally.

I’d imagine it’s a limitation of the new water system. Normally, water is just a flat plane with an animated texture (and maybe some parallax/displacement/tesselation for wave volume). This new one from what I can observe (since I’ve not seen the system itself with my own eyes) is two-layered. you have the normal planar mesh that tells the game whether or not you’re in-water and there’s an animated mesh over top of that for the waves that looks to be calculated from the boundary of where the plane intersects with the ground mesh.

If you go in to the water and get the water level at camera level you can see the two meshes. What I don’t get though is why this would be keeping all the usual ‘are you in water’ checks from happening, there could still be the splash particles around the players feet/sounds in shallow water or the wet shader being applied when you swim rather than JUST rain.

Yea, think the old water looked better. I’d rather see it smoother and it interact with objects/people.

I think the waves are kind of powerful for a meandering river.

Crocs should also be able to swim.

I’ve always thought the water was too safe. There is a reason most mammals are terrified of it.

That may also explain the bugs with trying to place fish traps in some areas (for instance the entire Boundary Spillway is giving me the ‘Must be placed in water’ error - but Priestking’s Retreat is fine)

yes. not complaining, it looks great. it just doesn’t feel as interactive as the rest of the environment and breaks immersion for obvious reasons.

EDIT: I still say the foot splashes should be doable. You still get splash particles when you’re swimming on the surface. Then again - I haven’t been playing too close of attention while running around, are there still dust puffs that generate on footfalls? It may turn out to be a sign of a wider issue if not.

Good news is the patchnotes for the latest update mention some water issues (and specifically the footstep splash sounds), so hopefully some of this has now been fixed.

just checked. it hasn’t. water interaction is dead still.

i didnt notice since i’m in lowest of low performance settings, but I did notice that you cant pick things up in water unless you can fully submerge and get the camera below the surface

Not 100% it turns out - footsteps sounds in water are back. It’s a start - would still like to see the rest - but it’s a start…
