I’d suggest having the challenge update whenever you harvest the “essence”, rather than whacking on the corpse with your religious tool until it’s gone. I know for myself, and probably a lot of others, we don’t repeatedly beat on the dead. We hit them once and done, mostly to prevent wasted durability. Set demands many, many offerings.

But I agree with your suggestion. As far as I’m concerned, the gods are satisfied with whichever piece of a person’s body or soul they ask on the altars, rather than require us to mutilate the corpse until it atomizes.

I’m trying to do this quest, but it doesn’t update when I harvest human hearts (Set religion). Do I have to do something else?
You got to explode human corpse with it. It doesn’t matter if you get a heart or a toe in the process.
And it doesn’t work on monsters and animals, I tried
