Game mode: Online official Type of issue: Bug Server type: PvP Region: 1500
Just recently my character started dying while I was logged off, and I would lose all of my items in my inventory and armor. This wasn’t an issue before. A couple months ago during a sandstorm I almost died and logged off then logged back in with half health. Something changed in that time, notably it was after the most recent update.
I don’t think the characters stats should change while they are logged off, before it seemed like your character died over time but you never truly died, you would simply reset to half hp as you would normally if you died while playing except while logged out you kept all your things and stayed at that location.
Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:
This bug is as old as the game itself. I have always log out naked, placing my stuff inside a chest while inside the house. In the case that I can’t do this, I always make sure to exit to main menu first then I exit the game, my characters haven’t died ever since.
This happens, or my understanding of it that is, because the server still thinks that you are there when you exit the game instead of exiting to main menu, it’s like it doesn’t save/register that you left. 2+ years this bug has been around.
The heart was for the first paragraph, Iorail, the second is a design and configurable in non-official servers, but standard on officials.
The basis for officials is that your bod stays in the game when offline, which causes a few problems. Talouin described one well, sandstorms. The other is that some temperature resistance buffs do not stay when you log off. So, if you have say, Vitality:Impervious, it may not be effective when you log off. If you are in an area and on the edge of heatstroke with the buff, when you log, you get heatstroke and die. Even lesser temps will cause increased hunger or thirst, poof.
I emphasized the mays above since I have not tested them personally.
As to the setting, see Logged out characters remain in world available under Settings:Server Settings:Survival. The toggle is not available in single player since when you log out, you stop the ‘server’.
I logged into game and found my character had died only few minutes before I logged in and my items somehow decomposed also in a short amount of time, kinda BS when you have epic armor, weapons, and items and now they are all gone, they should look into these issues, why would I spend more money on a game that kills me with no justification. Official server 3500
Its happened to me before, too (logging in to find your character dead). Had a base in the Volcano area on an official PvP server. When I would log out, apparently my survival stats stopped functioning. The character would “overheat” and eventually die. When I was online, I could run around my base just fine. But when I logged out, I would always die (and respawn next to my bed). Since it always happened (die every time between game sessions), I soon learned that I had to strip off everything I owned and put it all in a storage chest next to my bed because when I logged out, my character would die inside my base. That way, my gear would not suddenly disappear between game sessions.
